Gotham Knights Creative Director Patrick Redding has revealed to Screen Rant that Warner Bros. Games Montréal considered other Batman Family heroes before eventually setting on its four main characters. Gotham Knights spotlights four DC heroes for players to choose from, including Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood. Each character has their own unique relationship with Bruce Wayne, and comes to terms with his death in their own ways over the course of the story.
In DC Comics, the Bat Family refers to the network of heroes and allies within the Dark Knight's circle. This includes immediate sidekicks like Robin, but also heroes who operate in Gotham and elsewhere who have a connection to Batman. The Bat Family is largely comprised of legacy heroes - mantles that are passed down between multiple characters. Robin is the most famous example, with the identity originally belonging to Dick Grayson before passing to Jason Todd,...

Back in early 2014, it was announced that David Bruckner – who had previously directed segments of The Signal (2007) and V/H/S/ – had signed on to direct a new Friday the 13th film. Bruckner was attached to the project through two different approaches. At one point, he was working with The Autopsy of Jane Doe screenwriters Richard Naing and Ian B. Goldberg to develop a found footage Friday the 13th movie. When the found footage angle was dropped, he worked with Channel Zero creator Nick Antosca on a script that had a heavy focus on character and was supposed to be packed with ’80s songs. Dazed and Confused was a source of inspiration for that one. At the end of 2015, Bruckner moved on from Friday the 13th. He has gone on to direct The Ritual, The Night House, and the new Hellraiser movie (read our review Here)… and now, he doesn...

One of three directors who first won attention with 2007’s excellent three-part thriller “The Signal” (not to be confused with another enterprising sci-fi-tinged indie of that title from 2014), Dan Bush has made several interesting genre features on his own since then. Like cloning fantasy “The Reconstruction of William Zero” and bank robbery-turned-monster movie “The Vault,” his latest film intrigues with an offbeat premise even if it ultimately doesn’t develop to fully satisfying results.
Once again co-written with cast member Conal Byrne, “The Dark Red” is or even come to full fruition individually. Nonetheless, this quasi-horror mixed bag will hold viewers’ attention for its originality even as it flags in both credibility and suspense. Dark Sky is releasing the movie on five U.S. screens March 6, simultaneous with its digital-format launch. Earlier this month I had the gracious opportunity to interview director Dan Bush – best known for 2007’s The Signal and 2014’s The Reconstruction of William Zero. Bush’s most recent work – The Vault – is a unique blend between the heist and supernatural thriller genres; set for a September 8th release. Starring James Franco & Francesca Eastwood, The Vault’s theatrical release is a space to watch.
Dan, going from a largely independent film maker, ‘The Vault’ seems to be moving you towards larger ‘blockbuster’ style features. Is this kind of filmmaking & releases a goal of yours to reach? Or would you prefer to stay at an independent level.
I just love making movies, I’ll make a blockbuster if someone wants to give me a budget anywhere in the world. However, I do believe that limitations make us better filmmakers. With all the things you have to consider when making a bigger movie: the unions,...

The trailer for the action-packed supernatural heist thriller, The Vault, has arrived starring James Franco and Clifton Collins.
The trailer follows James Franco, who looks like he is bearing the world’s problems on his shoulders, suited and booted as assistant bank manager Ed Maas as he assists The Dillon sisters as they embark on a heist of the bank in which they get a whole lot more than they bargained for.
Filled with tension building music, meandering along the long dark corridors of the basement of the bank, in which holds the big money lays a spooky and sinister secret, laden with the chilling laughter of children and an equally chilling shadowy figure the desperate ladies of the heist just might not get out of this one alive.

The Vault blends a heist and the supernatural. In the film, two sisters must make some quick cash. But, they have no idea what is hiding in the basement. The Vault stars: James Franco, Taryn Manning, Francesca Eastwood and Scott Haze. FilmRise will distribute the film in the United States, this September. And director Dan Bush (The Signal, 2007) has described The Vault as "an action-packed supernatural heist thriller." The film's official trailer is hosted here. The trailer reveals more than the synopsis. In the clip, Franco plays bank employee Ed. He knows what lays in wait, below the floor. He encourages the robbers to investigate a rusted old vault. But, he does not warn them about what lays behind the solid steel. The tables are quickly turned as the sisters must face a haunting below and the police officers outside. The Vault is set to release in a couple of territories.

Mixing up a bit of witty banter with terrifying scenes, the debut trailer for The Signal’s David Bruckner’s next project, The Ritual, has landed.
Starring Rafe Spall (The Big Short, Life of Pi), Robert James-Collier (Downton Abbey, Spike Island), Arsher Ali (Line of Duty, Four Lions) and Sam Troughton (Robin Hood, Alien vs. Predator), The Ritual tells the story of a group of friends who take on a hiking holiday in honour of a friend who was murdered at the hands of a criminal. What lays ahead of them in a remote Scandinavian forest proves it might not have been the best idea they’ve ever had.

This past Monday afternoon, word came down from Paramount Pictures that the latest installment of “Friday the 13th,” which had been part of the studio’s development slate for nearly four years, had been pulled from its schedule. Only a couple of hours later, speculation engendered by that announcement was confirmed: The new “Friday the 13th” was dead, at least for the time being, and certainly at Paramount.
No official explanation was forthcoming, though the obvious one seemed to be the disappointing box-office returns for the just-concluded first weekend of “Rings,” another Paramount franchise reboot that had bounced around its slate a few times; it finished below the third weekend of Universal’s “Split.” The news was met with disappointment by die-hard “Friday” fans, who were looking forward to Jason Voorhees’ return to the studio that had nurtured him through eight movies between 1980-89. He owns an array of strange items that could rival the displays of Marvel's The Collector, and with a heavenly voice that can kill, Lily is the prized possession of the eccentric Mr. Nyx in Gregg Bishop's SiREN. Based on David Bruckner's "Amateur Night" segment from V/H/S, SiREN comes out in theaters today from Chiller Films (ahead of its VOD, Digital HD, and DVD release on December 6th), and Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Nyx himself, Justin Welborn, who discussed bringing the enigmatic character to life in his fourth collaboration with Gregg Bishop, and also reflected on their midnight movie masterpiece, Dance of the Dead.
What was your initial reaction when you heard that they wanted to do a feature film adaptation of David Bruckner's segment from V/H/S?
Justin Welborn: Well, Bruckner actually called me up and asked me about.

While the 2012 horror anthology V/H/S may be uneven overall, there can be little doubt that “Amateur Night,” the segment written and directed by David Bruckner, is one of the highlights of the film. The found footage short about a group of dudebros who pick up an odd girl (Hannah Fierman) who turns out to be more than they expected, is funny and scary in the best EC Comics tradition. Because it works so beautifully as a self-contained short, it also doesn’t seem like the most obvious candidate to be adapted into a full feature film. Enter director Gregg Bishop and his new movie, Siren.
Using the same basic premise as its jumping-off point—a group of guys get more than they bargained for when they cross paths with the title character—Siren inverts the dynamics of the original short by telling the story of more or less...

The director of The Crazies remake might be heading to Camp Crystal Lake, as Variety reports that Breck Eisner (The Last Witch Hunter) is in talks to helm the 13th film of the Jason Voorhees franchise.

It sounds like the long-gestating Friday the 13th reboot is going directly back to its 80s roots. Literally. There has been talk that this second remake of the popular horror franchise is a period piece set in the 80s. Over the weekend at WonderCon, while promoting his upcoming sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, producer Andrew Form confirmed that the movie is a period piece. But he wouldn't specify which era the movie takes place in. He also, once again, reiterated that this new take on the Jason Voorhees mythos will definitely not be a found footage thriller.
"There is truth that this is period. And Not found footage."
The original Friday the 13th arrived in 1980, with many of the sequels arriving throughout the decade. Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan was the final 80s set movie. The ninth movie, Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday,...

I’m a huge horror fan, and I love the Friday the 13th franchise, but I didn’t really care for the Michael Bay-produced reboot. However, its sequel, which was going to be directed by David Bruckner (The Signal) from a script written by Hannibal’s Nick Antosca, sounded like it would have been cool as hell and something fans would have probably embraced. Unfortunately, this concept will never make its way to the big screen.
HitFix recently had the opportunity to interview Bruckner, and it was in this interview that he explained what the reboot would have entailed:
"It was a proper reboot. The final version that we were working on was with a writer Nick Antosca, who writes for 'Hannibal,' or did, rather. It was a proper 'end of the summer' summer camp movie that took place in the late '80s...I like to...

At last report Platinum Dunes was still working on its next chapter in the "Friday the 13th" franchise, a series that has been dormant since the 2009 first reboot which starred Jared Padalecki and was produced by Michael Bay.
That film was a solid success for New Line, raking in $91.4 million from a $19 million budget, yet talk of a follow-up has only seemingly ever been that - talk. Languishing in development hell, and finding its rights shift back to Paramount as part of a deal for the rights to Chris Nolan's "Interstellar," things seemed to get moving again last year as both "The Signal" director David Bruckner and "Hannibal" TV scribe Nick Antosca came onboard.
Then the film got pushed back yet again as it looked like the project hit a speed bump in December with Bruckner opting out of the film and "Prisoners" scribe Aaron Guzikowski coming onboard for script re-writes.

Friday the 13th fans have been waiting since 2009 for another installment in the long-running slasher movie franchise (a TV series is also in the works), but the project has been stuck in what's popularly known in Hollywood as development hell. First conceptualized as a sequel to Platinum Dunes' 2009 reboot, the project has since been re-rebooted and most recently had V/H/S and The Signal helmer David Bruckner signed on to direct from a script penned by Hannibal writer Nick Antosca. Well, that's no longer the case; Bruckner has since left the project, which now has a new screenwriter -- Prisoners scribe Aaron Guzikowski -- attached to bring Jason Voorhees back to the big screen. During an interview with Bruckner about his new anthology film Southbound, I asked the director what a Friday the 13th movie directed by him might have looked like, and I found his answer refreshing and surprising.

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Orchard TV. **there is one spoiler after the review. Directors: Roxanne Benjamin, David Bruckner, Patrick Horvath and Radio Silence. Writers: Roxanne Benjamin, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, David Bruckner, Susan Burke, Dallas Richard Hallam and Patrick Horvath. Cast: Chad Villella, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Hannah Marks, Tipper Newton, Brad Miska and Kristina Pesic. Southbound is an indie horror anthology film, from four directors. Patrick Horvath, of The Signal (2007) fame, brings one of four stories. Though, an initial viewing would make the film appear as if it is five short films; the circular ending brings the film back upon itself. Southbound also brings an inconsistent morality to the screen as one good character finds escape, while another does not. The film also keeps its characters' histories and motivations hidden. This makes an interpretation of the plot difficult. But, the writers do agree on a trapped theme.

Horror anthologies are all the rage, with both up-and-coming and established filmmakers contributing to works like the extensive ABCs of Death films, and the found footage V/H/S trilogy. Now comes Southbound, a new collection featuring horror shorts directed by V/H/S alums Roxanne Benjamin, David Bruckner (The Signal), and Radio Silence, as well as Patrick Horvath (Entrance). A trailer and clip of the film’s seven-minute opener were just released, providing a peek at the terror to come.
First, the clip serves as a promising cold opener, dropping the viewer right in the middle of the action as two men in a classic pickup are pursued by dark, spectral beings – and then things start to get weird. While the footage recalls, to some degree, Twilight Zone: The Movie, details have painted Southbound as a twist on the disconnected style of previous anthology films. In an interview,...

Synchronicity director Jacob Gentry talks to Shock. Synchronicity is director Jacob Gentry’s newest science fiction thriller. Best-known to genre fans as “one of the directors of that awesome 2007 science fiction film The Signal”, Gentry has once again paired up with Aj Bowen for this dystopian/crime/noir/time travel/alternate dimensions? story. In addition, Brianne Davis and Michael Ironside…

Time travel is such a highly specific subgenre in sci-fi that a few big movies tend to always dominate the conversation. Primer, The Terminator and Back to the Future are the biggest fan favorites and so any time a new time travel movie comes out, those seem to crop back into the conversation as influencers. However, that's not entirely the case with Synchronicity, the new sci-fi mind bender from writer-director Jacob Gentry (The Signal). At least, not as far as Gentry is concerned. Synchronicity hits theaters and on demand tomorrow (that would be January 22, 2016, in case you're reading this from another timeline), so we asked Gentry to tell us what his actual influences were when writing and directing. His answers may actually surprise you, at least if you're...

Written and directed by Jacob Gentry, Synchronicity is an ambitious neo-noir time travel yarn that feels like a companion piece to Gentry’s first sci-fi feature, The Signal (which he co-directed with David Bruckner and Dan Bush). Both deal with fractured timelines to a degree, but it's his latter that proves Gentry’s keen ability to manipulate popular tropes all while creating a complex and intricate story. The film takes a bit of time to find its footing, but when it does, that’s when Synchronicity evolves into something rather special. On par with films like Timecrimes, Predestination or even Primer to a degree, Synchronicity once again proves that you don’t need a huge budget to create a compelling cinematic experience.

The first seven minutes for Southbound have been released. This horror anthology features five tales of despair and desolation. The five features have been developed by: Roxanne Benjamin (V/H/S), David Bruckner (The Signal), Patrick Horvath and Radio Silence. And, the first seven minutes have been taken from Radio Silence's short film. The full movie clip is hosted below. The clip shows two bloodied men and a long stretch of highway. They see dark figures in the desert and decide to take a break, at a local rest stop. Here, the customer service is hostile and so are the mens' pursuers. Events get even stranger as it becomes apparent that there is no escape from this isolated locale. Southbound will have a limited theatrical release on February 5th, 2016. Following that, the film will be available through Video-on-demand formats, on February 9th. More details on the film are available past the break.

Not many filmmakers can turn heads with a single release, but Jacob Gentry earned his must-watch potential after striking gold with 2007’s The Signal (a shared effort with David Bruckner and Dan Bush). All eyes were on what Gentry would do next, which ended up being a three-part slasher franchise on MTV known as My Super Psycho Sweet 16 – which, admittedly, weren’t the worst. But his televised splatterfests didn’t showcase Gentry’s full potential, which makes Synchronicity all that much sweeter a return for the ambitious indie auteur. Once again Gentry explodes with genre vibrancy (Sci-fi this time), as we’re transported to a metallic future that’s molded into an engrossing cinematic universe. Gentry does more than make movies, he builds entire worlds. It’s immersion in the fullest form.

Arriving in theaters and on VOD platforms everywhere this weekend is Jacob Gentry’s Synchronicity, which reunites the director with Chad McKnight, Aj Bowen and Scott Poythress—three co-stars from his first genre effort, The Signal. This time around, McKnight stars as a scientist who has invented a machine that can create a wormhole, and both Bowen and Poythress play his wisecracking labmates who help the film’s hero put all of the intricate pieces of Synchronicity’s puzzle into place.
Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to catch up with Gentry, Bowen, McKnight and Poythress at the press day for Synchronicity and discussed with them their experiences reuniting for another cinematic adventure and so much more.
I think it's really ambitious when you can make a movie like Synchronicity because when you think sci-fi, a lot of folks automatically think “big concepts that usually require a big budget.” And this movie,...

The Signal director Jacob Gentry returns to screens with his new sci-fi film Synchronicity. And while Chad McKnight, Aj Bowen, and Michael Ironside may top the cast it seems immediately apparent that the fantastic retro score by Ben Lovett is every bit as much a character in the film. Daring physicist Jim Beale has invented a machine that can fold space-time and ruthless corporate tycoon Klaus Meisner will stop at nothing to get it. When Jim uses the machine to tear open the fabric of the universe, a rare Dahlia appears from the future. But in order to keep the rights to his invention he must prove that it works by finding the flower's identical match in the present. Jim soon discovers that the Dahlia...

We thought time travel was impossible - we were wrong. Magnolia has debuted the official trailer for The Signal director Jacob Gentry's new film Synchronicity, a time travel sci-fi noir that will definitely grab the attention of sci-fi fans. This trailer makes the film look a bit like Looper, Dark City and Blade Runner all thrown in one, with very unique visuals and some odd changeovers in this trailer that you might not be expecting. The cast includes Michael Ironside as the investor, along with Chad McKnight, Brianne Davis, Aj Bowen and Scott Poythress. I'm very curious to check this out, as I enjoyed The Signal and I'm hoping this is as special as it seems it might be. Is that a brain running the time travel device? Or what? Here's the trailer for Synchonicity, the newest film from The Signal director Jacob Gentry. Billed as a "mind-bending sci-fi noir," the movie centers on a man who invents time travel and the lengths he'll go to in order to protect his claim. The trailer does a great job at establishing a dark, moody, atmospheric vibe, and this looks like it could be another excellent small-scale time travel thriller in the vein of Timecrimes or Primer, though apparently with higher production values than both.

The long-in-the-works "Friday the 13th" reboot has been stuck in development hell for what feels like forever, but the latest news of the franchise's next installment (the 13th overall) indicates that things may be moving in the right direction for the hotly-anticipated project. In light of the latest developments, here are seven things you need to know. 1. Director David Bruckner has dropped out of the project. Bruckner, who co-wrote and co-directed the cult 2007 horror film "The Signal" as well as a segment of the macabre found-footage anthology movie "V/H/S," was first reported to have taken the helm in April of last year, but according to The Wrap he has since departed the project to pursue other opportunities. 2. Acclaimed screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski ("Prisoners") is attached to write a new version of the script. Variety reported on Thursday that Guzikowski, who also created the SundanceTV drama series "Red Road," is...

Paramount recently delayed the return of the Friday The 13th movie series to 2017, and now there's been some personnel shuffling as well.
The new movie had been set to be directed by The Signal's David Bruckner, but he's been released from his deal as a consequence of the studio's decision to get the script rewritten. Paramount and Platinum Dunes reportedly felt it'd be unfair to keep him hanging around while a new draft was penned.
Meanwhile, the person hired to pen a new screenplay? That'd be Aaron Guzikowski. He previously wrote Prisoners and Contraband, and is also working on one of Universal's upcoming classic monster films.
It's likely that, once the script is complete, Bruckner will again be offered the opportunity to direct it.
