Latest Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Clip Introduces Jason O'Mara's New Director - Is He Jeffrey Mace/The Patriot?
EW has debuted a new clip from the upcoming "Meet The Boss" episode of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., which sees Coulson and May pay a visit to the new director, who'll be played by Irish actor Jason O'Mara (Life on Mars, Terra Nova). He seems very friendly (well, up until May gets one of those freaky hallucinations), but that might not be the big reveal here. Though the character's last name is not given, Coulson calls him Jeffrey, and coupled with this earlier hint from O'Mara about the person he's playing having a "very manly name", there's a decent chance he's actually Jeffrey Mace, Aka The Patriot, Aka the third Captain America. Far from irrefutable irrefutable evidence of course, but that's my guess. What do you guys think? Meet the New Boss” – Daisy goes to battle Ghost Rider at a terrible cost, and Coulson faces the new Director, and his bold agenda surprises them all,...

Look Out, Coulson! Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Casts Jason O'Mara as Its New Boss
Ming-Na Wen, Clark Gregg, Iain De Caestecker, Nick Blood, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, and Elizabeth Henstridge in Marvel : Les Agents du S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013)
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has found Coulson's replacement, but don't expect to learn the true identity of the new boss until season four premieres this fall. Marvel made the announcement that Jason O'Mara (Life on Mars, The Good Wife) has joined the cast of the ABC series as our beloved Phil Coulson's (Clark Gregg) successor following the shocking revelation in the final minutes of the season three finale that he'd been removed from power—however all they're sharing about the character he'll be playing is that it's one "whose Marvel roots go back to the 1940s." So, you know, it could literally be anyone. "Bringing Jason into the mix as the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D....

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows movie review: shell schlock
Leaden and witless, though it obviously believes there is humor in its loud, chaotic juvenility. It would be an insult to cartoons to call this cartoonish. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Apparently the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, when they debuted way back in the 1980s, were intended as a parody of superhero comics. I picked up this tidbit from the Tmnt wikipedia page. I did not absorb it through some sort of cinematic osmosis while watching the new Tmnt movie, Out of the Shadows. That would have been impossible. Whatever the truth of the long-ago comic-book Turtles, there is absolutely nothing that marks them as satirical here. (This may also be true of the 2014 movie that rebooted this franchise, but I have so far managed to avoid that one. If only that had...

Jumanji (1995)
'Jumanji' Remake on Target for Christmas 2016 Release
Jumanji (1995)
Back in August, Sony Pictures issued release dates for a number of high-profile projects, all set to hit theaters between 2016 and 2017. One of those movies is their Jumanji remake, which has been in development for several years, with Zach Helm coming aboard to write the script back in 2012. Today, Deadline reports that the studio has hired screenwriter Scott Rosenberg (Con Air) to rewrite the script in hopes that it makes its announced holiday release next year.

The remake is said to be a high priority for the studio, described as a "re-imagination" of the original 1995 blockbuster Jumanji, which starred Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst, Bonnie Hunt and Bebe Neuwirth. The original movie was spawned from the board game and book by writer Chris Van Allsburg (The Polar Express, Zathura). The movie earned a whopping $262.7 million worldwide at the box office, from a $65 million production budget.

Show Premise

Highly successful lingerie company owners and married couple Alan and Lee Arnold decide to retire from their CEO position and name their non identical twin daughters as their successors. The two sisters, Mitchee and Farrah, couldn’t be more different from one another if they tried. Oddly, the two take after their parents almost exactly, with Mitchee taking after her father, who is brainy, uptight, and reserved, while Farrah takes after Lee, an alluring, uninhibited, and seemingly vapid blonde. It would seem that for the parents, the notion of “opposite attracts” is what brought them together, but for the two sisters,...

Rami Malek in Mr. Robot (2015)
USA Announces Summer 2015 Premiere Dates for 'Suits,' 'Graceland' and More
Rami Malek in Mr. Robot (2015)
Long gone are the summers filled with reruns of favorite shows. Also, is the notion that summer replacement shows are "not good enough" for the fall. Some of today's most popular shows are those that premiere in the summer.

USA network announced its summer line up during its annual Upfront presentation which includes two new drama series: Mr. Robot and Complications. Mr. Robot, (a terrible name for hopefully a much better series), is described as a techno-thriller starring Christian Slater and Rami Malek. Malek plays a young programmer recruited by Slater to join an underground hacker group. Complications is created by Matt Nix (Burn Notice) and stars Jason O'Mara (Life on Mars) and Jessica Szohr (Gossip Girl).

Supergirl: Laura Benanti cast as Alura Zor-El
Supergirl’s mother will be played by Laura Benanti in the upcoming CBS series…

It’s been nearly a month since our last update on the CBS Supergirl series, which saw Mehcad Brooks join the cast as a new cooled-up screen version of photographer Jimmy Olsen. Now, we’ve learnt about another addition to the cast – Laura Benanti, who will play Alura Zor-El, the birth mother of Supergirl, aka Kara (played by Melissa Benoist of Glee and Whiplash).

In terms of character description specific to the show, what we know so far is that Alura is “a strong noblewoman, [who] sends Kara to Earth to escape Krypton’s destruction. Her wisdom and guidance echoes across space and time, proving invaluable on Kara’s journey toward becoming Supergirl.”

It sounds like she might be doing a Russell-Crowe-in-Man-Of-Steel, then, popping up throughout the narrative to help out her estranged offspring with words of wisdom.

Nonso Anozie Trades Game Of Thrones For Zoo
Game Of Thrones actor Nonso Anozie has moved from his portrayal of Xaro Ahoan Daxos on the hit show, to a recurring role in the CBS adaptation of James Patterson’s novel, Zoo. The stand-alone book, co-written with Michael Ledwidge, was published in 2012 to positive reviews – many of which cited the perceived plausibility of the plot.

The earth-bound science fiction story centres on scientist Jackson Oz, who is systematically dismissed by his colleagues in the fields of ecology and biology after focusing years of research on animals attacking humans. Believing there to be an increasing pattern, Oz travels to Botswana, where he manages to survive a large-scale lion attack. Teaming with fellow survivor, and former diplomat, Chloe Tousignant, he works to uncover why the animal world has begun what is seemingly a united effort to remove humans from the ecosystem completely.

With James Wolk (Mad Men, The Crazy Ones) in the role of Oz,...

10 TV characters who knew how to make an entrance
From Battlestar Galactica to Farscape, Doctor Who and more, Juliette cheers on 10 TV characters who made a big first impression...

Some characters slip onto our TV screens quietly and sneak into our hearts slowly. We watch them develop and grow, and come to love them over time, sometimes despite very inauspicious beginnings (being eaten by a wheelie bin springs to mind).

Others make more of an impression from the get-go.

In this list, we’re celebrating some of the most memorable and impressive entrances of characters from TV shows. To make the list, a character had to be (or eventually become) a regular or frequently recurring character – no one-shot wonders here. And note this is a list for TV characters, so you won’t see any Captain Jack Sparrow or even the Borg Queen – all of these had to make their big impression on the small screen.

10. Madame Vastra and Jenny,...

What's the big idea? How Lost changed the game for Us television
Digital Spy presents Lost Week - seven days of special features celebrating 10 years of the game-changing Us TV drama.

When Lost premiered on ABC ten years ago, few predicted it would become so entrenched in pop culture and inspire many similarly high-concept ideas.

While there have always been TV shows with Big Ideas, Lost's success definitely paved the way for networks - mainly Us broadcasters with money to splash - to create dramas with grand, ambitious ideas at their core.

A decade on from the Lost pilot, we take a look at 7 TV shows from the past decade that each had a Big Idea, and examine how each fared with viewers.

1. Lost

What's the big idea?

A passenger jet flying from Sydney to Los Angeles, carrying a disparate mix of people, crash-lands on an island, forcing the castaways to work together if they're to survive this exotic but hostile environment.

Nashville Premiere Recap: Three Chords and the (Hard) Truth
Laura Benanti
Nashville‘s Rayna Jaymes probably makes the right decision in the series’ Season 3 premiere, and I really, really hate her for it.

Before you angrily mobilize to spray-paint a giant “Deyna 4eva” on my house, hear me out. The best decision Ray could’ve made would be to come clean with both of her beaus: “Deacon, you are one Hot Pocket, but you and I need to figure. some. stuff. out. before we even think about doing this again. And Luke, the fact that I can’t do more than plaster a half-amused smile on my face in your presence...

Sony Pictures has set the beloved Scott Pilgrim vs. the World helmer to direct an adaptation of the impressive and unconventional Andrew Smith Dutton Ya novel Grasshopper Jungle.

Wright’s next project will be Baby Driver, described as “a collision of crime, action, music and sound,” but after filming on that movie is completed, the director will move quickly into Grasshopper Jungle, which boasts a script by Scott Rosenberg (Pain & Gain, Life on Mars). Rosenberg is also on board as a producer alongside The Amazing Spider-Man‘s Matt Tolmach and Nira Park, who is involved with all of Wright’s movies. The Strain (2014)
Toronto, On. With "Lost" (and "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr," if you like) front and center on his resume, Carlton Cuse knows a thing or two relating to fanboys, but that's actually how he originally came to Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan's "The Strain" series. "Almost two years ago, I was approached by Wme and asked whether I actually knew this property, 'The Strain' trilogy," Cuse recalls, sitting with a small roundtable of reporters on the Toronto set of "The Strain," which premieres on FX on July 13. "In fact, I had read the first book just as a fanboy, just because I was intrigued by it and loved Guillermo's stuff. I actually had a little bit of a relationship with Chuck Hogan. We had talked at one point about doing something else together. I really loved the book. So Wme said, 'Hey, would you consider meeting with Guillermo?...

CBS Signs Lucrative Netflix Pact For James Patterson Series Zoo
With the buzzy sci-fi series Extant premiering tonight, high-rated returning fave Under the Dome on its way for later this summer, high-concept thriller Scorpion premiering this fall and James Patterson adaptation Zoo in the cards for the summer of 2015, CBS is in a pretty desirable spot right now. And the good news just keeps coming for the network, with word that CBS just inked a rich deal with streaming service Netflix so that the site can offer Zoo, adapted from the novel by Patterson and Michael Ledwidge, as soon as it finishes airing.

The pact is rumored to be even higher than the $900,000 Amazon is reportedly paying per episode of Under the Dome and Extant (which Netflix wanted as well). Intriguingly, whereas Amazon is able to put episodes of each of those series on its Prime Instant Video service four days after they air, Netflix has also agreed not to...

Jason Momoa Hits The Road To Paloma In New Trailer For His Directorial Debut
Apparently, Jason Momoa likes road movies. Having previously written and directed the short film, Brown Bag Diaries: Ridin’ In The Blinds In B Minor in 2010, he is now making his feature-length directorial debut with The Road To Paloma. With Momoa (Game Of Thrones, Conan The Barbarian) also taking the starring role, the first trailer for the dramatic thriller has arrived online.

If you had been hoping for something interesting and fresh from this new cinematic voice, then you might as well move along. For here we have the standard, tired tale of a man seeking revenge for the rape and murder of a woman – this time, his mother. As we have come to expect, he takes the law into his own hands, and becomes a fugitive from the FBI. So far, so tedious.

The problem is, we have seen it all before. A female ‘character’ (either onscreen, or as a...

Michael Imperioli To Topline ABC Comedy Pilot ‘Saint Francis’
The Sopranos alum Michael Imperioli has been tapped as the lead in Saint Francis, Chris Moynihan’s multi-camera comedy pilot for ABC. The project, from ABC Studios and Tagline, centers on Francis Quinlan (Imperioli), a blue-collar, no-nonsense Long Island cop and family man who butts heads with the modern, liberal world when his 29-year-old sister gets pregnant out of wedlock. This marks Imperioli’s return to ABC where he starred on two drama series, Detroit 1-8-7 and Life On Mars. He has a major recurring role on the upcoming seventh and final season of Showtime’s Californication.

Well Known Character Actor in Talks to Join Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar
We’ve been reporting the slow flow of casting news surrounding Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, a movie about a “heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding.” So far we have Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine on board for the project.

Now, beloved character actor Bill Irwin has joined the crew according to The Wrap. He’s well know for dozens of movies (including How the Grinch Stole Christmas) and television shows (Life on Mars), but when my husband reads this he will shout Mr. Noodle! (Sesame Street) as we always do when we spot him in a new movie. His facial expressions are priceless and I cannot wait to see what he will bring to this new movie.

We’ll keep you posted on the latest for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin and Michael Caine...

Unaired Episodes of 666 Park Avenue Join Zero Hour This Summer
We were so disappointed that Zero Hour wasn’t given more time to gain an audience, but at least were pleased when ABC announced that the entire first season would air this summer, including the first three episodes that aired in the winter.

Happily, ABC has now paired those episodes with unaired episodes from another gone-too-soon show from earlier this season, 666 Park Avenue, according to Deadline. As you know from the SciFiMafia.com Spring and Summer Primetime TV Schedule and the SciFiMafia.com Calendar, Zero Hour premieres Saturday, June 15 at 8/7c. 666 Park Avenue will join Zero Hour on June 22, following it at 9/8c and continuing weekly for three more weeks.

Excellent news, I’m So looking forward to summer Saturdays, these were great shows; thanks to ABC for airing the rest of the episodes.

Foxy Recurring Fox Follower Turns Hell on Wheels Reporter For AMC
Actress Jennifer Ferrin is currently a recurring presence on Fox’s The Following, but she has just won a series regular role on the third season of AMC’s Hell on Wheels. Load your six-shooters, because if season 2 was any evidence, then season 3 will make for a very bumpy ride.

On The Following, Ferrin is Molly, a member of serial killer Joe Carroll’s cult, who was embedded in order to form an attachment with Kevin Bacon’s Ryan Hardy.

Her new role will be somewhat of a change up for her and sounds to me like it will be loads of fun. Hell on Wheels has a western theme and that alone should be a remarkable change of pace from being a part of the Fox crime series cast.

For Hell on Wheels, TV Line learned, Ferrin will play Louise Ellison, a bright, confident, “flirtatious journalist”. Louise will be...

Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy in Following (2013)
Jennifer Ferrin, who’s currently pursuing Kevin Bacon on The Following, is joining the third season of Hell on Wheels as a series regular, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The actress will play Louise Ellison, a smart, witty and flirtatious journalist hired by the New York Sun to cover the “story of the century” — the building of the Transcontinental Railroad. Louise imbues her work with an element of human emotion as well as thorough, blunt, truthful fact-finding. She is strong and independent and demands to be treated with the same respect that any man in her position would be given.

Sopranos’ Michael Imperioli Shoots For Californication season 7
Tony Soprano’s protege and nephew, Christopher Moltisanti, ended up suffocated to death. Detective Nick Falco was once framed for murder. Both characters were brought to life by actor Michael Imperioli, the former on HBO’s The Sopranos and the later on NBC’s Law & Order. What’s next for Imperioli? I see some Californication in his future.

Showtime‘s comedy is prepping for season 7 and has tapped Imperioli for what the Deadline exclusive calls a major recurring role.

His new character is Rick Rath, “a successful old-school television producer” who will be doing some business with David Duchovny’s Hank.

Californication centers on Hank, a quite troubled novelist who is trying to be a parent to his college-aged daughter Becca, while is still in love with her mother and his muse, Karen. So far, through the course of the series, Hank has tried his hand in film, music, and books.

Must Watch: Red Band 'Pain & Gain' Trailer is Shocking & Awesome
"We're looking for merchandise to shock, incapacitate and imprison our fellow man." Just like the overplayed Macklemore song in this red band trailer for Pain & Gain indicates: This is fucking awesome. If the trailer is any indicator, Michael Bay has crafted a hilarious, strange and action-packed movie that just might be his best yet. Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie are all great as bumbling muscle-heads and there's Rebel Wilson as an inappropriate nurse, Ken Jeong as some wealthy speaker and Rob Corddry. There's dwarves, a severed toe and girls in thongs. Thanks a lot, Michael Bay! Here's the red band trailer for Michael Bay's Pain & Gain, originally from Yahoo: new function(){return function(p,u){document.getElementById("embedW8w_jN7fgw0k8ps").innerHTML="";}({t:"Pain%20%26%20Gain%20Red%20Band%20Movie%20Trailer",u:"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8w_jN7fgw0",v:"W8w_jN7fgw...

Partying with the Irish
Jj Abrams is hosting it and Colin Farrell's up for an award – welcome to what Steven Spielberg calls the best party in La

When Jason O'Mara moved to Hollywood, an unknown actor with a Dublin brogue, it would have been useful to plug into the Irish network – except there wasn't one. "When I first got here, I wasn't aware of any Irish community that I should be part of."

Little harm it did him. A decade later O'Mara is a familiar face, thanks to network dramas such as Vegas, Justice, Life On Mars and Terra Nova. All the characters were American and the actor worked hard with a dialogue coach to erase unwanted lilts.

But this Thursday, days before the Oscars, O'Mara and hundreds of compatriots will gather to celebrate Irish success, and belated networking, at an annual pre-Oscar hoolie that Steven Spielberg has called one of the best parties in La.

Co-creator of the Tmnt, Kevin Eastman, got to talking about the upcoming film, and seeks to sooth our souls and pump us up. See if it works:

Eastman: ”This will be a great Tmnt film…Much like many thirty year old concepts, the Tmnt’s have been re-invented a number of times, some were stronger than others, but if you look at what Viacom/Nickelodeon has done/allowed to happen with the new Tmnt animated TV series and the new Idw comic series, each has a slightly new and refreshed take on the ‘core concept,’ the new film with be the same, a film ‘well placed’ in the Tmnt lore the fans will enjoy.

Meet Some of the Residents of 666 Park Avenue
Ready to check out "666 Park Avenue" on ABC this coming Sunday? Or maybe you're a bit on the fence. In either event the network has released a couple of new videos to introduce you to the show: Meet Jane and Henry (Rachael Taylor and Dave Annable), and then spend some time with the Dorans (Terry O'Quinn and Vanessa Williams).

"666 Park Avenue" - "Pilot" Synopsis (9/30/12 airdate):

At the ominous address of 666 Park Avenue, anything you desire can be yours. Everyone has needs, desires, and ambition. For the residents of The Drake, these will all be met, courtesy of the building’s mysterious owner, Gavin Doran (Terry O’Quinn). But every Faustian contract comes with a price. When Jane Van Veen (Rachael Taylor) and Henry Martin (Dave Annable), an idealistic young couple from the Midwest, are offered the opportunity to manage the historic building, they not only fall prey to the...

‘The Sweeney’ is overly derivative and unpleasantly simple-minded
The Sweeney

Written by Nick Love and John Hodge

Directed by Nick Love

UK, 2012

Consisting of four series and two feature film spin-offs during the 1970s, police drama The Sweeney was significantly influential in British media, popularising elements of gritty realism and morally dubious protagonists that television hadn’t been quite so prone to including before. Since then, its place in pop culture has most notably been deconstructed in the BBC series Life on Mars, particularly with its caricature Gene Hunt character, a cocky, outspoken, hard-drinking, politically incorrect hurricane of a law enforcer.

Nick Love’s 2012 film opts out of Life on Mars’ period setting, transplanting The Sweeney’s lead characters to contemporary London; it also avoids any of that show’s knowing commentary. The film certainly maintains tough enforcement methods inherent in its source material and the various works it inspired, but there’s not so much moral dubiousness...

Give In to the Seduction of the New 666 Park Avenue Poster
666 Park Avenue is my personal favorite new show of the season (though I haven’t seen Arrow yet) and I hope you’ll love it too. This poster gives an interesting twist to the campaign – get it? twist? – but should really be seen primarily as a metaphor. Don’t worry, the show won’t require you to take notes and study, it’s just pretty and creepily entertaining. Like the poster!

Presumably we’re getting this new poster because it includes the just-released premiere date, which we told you about earlier. Here’s your friendly reminder-as-to-what-it’s-about trailer and series summary:

This Fall, actor Terry O’Quinn of Lost returns to ABC in the supernatural thriller 666 Park Avenue, playing an agent of the devil who helps people fulfill their lifelong dreams with sometimes deadly consequences. Based on Gabriella Pierce’s novel by the same name, the show also stars ABC regulars Vanessa Williams, Dave Annable and Rachael Taylor. On the show, O’Quinn and Williams play the ultimate New York power couple, Gavin and Olivia Doran, who reside and own the historic 666 Park Avenue building.
