Heat waves are baring down on both the east and west coasts this week — but instead of pushing our exhausted air-conditioning unit to the breaking point, we’re waving the white flag and giving in to the swelter of it all.

Natalie Portman in Black Swan (2010)
New Year's Resolutions, 'Black Swan' And Unicorns In Today's Twitter-Wood
Natalie Portman in Black Swan (2010)
It was appropriate that for the last Twitter-Wood update of 2010, the feed included plenty of examples of what made the year great. "Black Swan" reactions continued to appear, while Michael Ian Black and Brody Stevens wished horrible fates upon people for the new year and Seth MacFarlane proposed a New Year's resolution for anyone who hasn't picked one yet.

Ice-t sounded off with his feelings about the police, as he apparently got pulled over this week. His rant, as well as Jeremy Piven's fear of saunas and Anna Kendrick's love for the show "Misfits" can be found down below.

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is Twitter-Wood for December 30, 2010.

Blake Edwards Remembered, Bob Feller And 'Stargate Universe' Canceled In Today's Twitter-Wood
"Tamarind Seed, The" Director Blake Edwards 1974 / Lorimar
Writer-director Blake Edwards' death was felt in Twitter-Wood today. His films such as "Breakfast at Tiffany"'s and "The Pink Panther" influenced generations of Hollywood talent, and a few such actors and directors, including Edgar Wright, Steve Martin and William Shatner paid their respects with posts.

The sports world was sad as well, with Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller passing away; Brody Stevens honored his legacy, while yet even more distraught tweets reacted to news that "Stargate Universe" has been canceled on Syfy. Check out who's going to miss it down below.

Election Day, Snoop Dogg And The Giants' World Series Win In Today's Twitter-Wood
Den vyborov (2007)
No matter who they're supporting, most of the faces in the Twitter-Wood feed discussing elections in the U.S. today just want you to get out and vote. Some expressed stronger recommendations, though, such as Sylvester Stallone, who used "The Manchurian Candidate" to help illustrate his point.

In other posts, Snoop Dogg looked like he was having a good time kicking back for his birthday with a few junior football player pals. Snoop, his birthday cake and LeVar Burton with a sticker on his face await you down below.

A couple of veteran action heroes spoke up on Twitter in the last 24 hours to comment on their past accomplishments, and you may be interested to see how Sylvester Stallone feels about cheesiness, as well as how Arnold Schwarzenegger responded to an accusation that he sold out when he made "Junior."

Elsewhere, other headline news topics of the day showed up: Jim Carrey sent a message out to the miners in Chile, Todd Barry defended coverage of David Arquette and Courteney Cox's split, and Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter reacted to recent comments by Christine O'Donnell.

Just a few weeks after Peter Facinelli went in for a "Breaking Dawn" wardrobe fitting, Ashley Greene has done the same, so it looks like things are moving along with the new "Twilight" sequel's production process.

In the news, all sorts of topics were trending today, Snoop Dogg has a business proposition for "The Social Network" subject Mark Zuckerberg, while Stephen Colbert has come concerns about a baby formula recall. Nicolas Cage, John Cusack, John Malkovich, and Ving Rhames in Les Ailes de l'enfer (1997)
Someone finally stood up in Twitter-Wood Tuesday to counter Brett Ratner's rave reviews of "Catfish." You'll have to read on down to find out who it was, but the Monday-Tuesday window in our feed turned out to be a popular one for the critics to show up.

The first episode of the new "Hawaii Five-0" series caught some attention and at least one comparison to "Con Air," while Bristol Palin had fellow flyers clamoring to watch "Dancing With the Stars" at the airport where Patton Oswalt was hanging out. Check out what he thought about that, who wished Bill Murray a happy birthday and who's been getting prepped in case they ever make a Shake Weight movie after the jump.

Smurf Controversy And 'Eclipse' & 'Scott Pilgrim' Trailers In Today's Twitter-Wood
Kevin Dillon, Adrian Grenier, Jeremy Piven, Kevin Connolly, and Jerry Ferrara in Entourage (2004)
The latest trailers for "Eclipse" and "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" have given several faces in Twitter-Wood something to post about this week. Apparently even those who were on set for the newest "Twilight" film can still be made to scream when they see their work in motion.

David Slade and James Urbaniak, meanwhile, have been keeping tabs on the new "Smurfs" film, and they both seem to have some concerns. You can find out what those are after the jump alongside reactions from the "Entourage" Season 7 premiere and a Lakers jersey blessing sighting.

Al And Tipper Gore, The 'Scott Pilgrim' Trailer And The 'Smurfs' Set In Today's Twitter-Wood
I don't know how much weight you should necessarily give to James Urbaniak's commentary on Al and Tipper Gore's reported break-up, but the topic has been trending on Twitter this afternoon, and the "Venture Bros." actor claims to know who the former Vice President will be visiting soon.

On the movies front, the new "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" trailer has been turning some heads. Director Edgar Wright has a few accomplishments displayed therein which he hopes you'll appreciate. You may also appreciate another look at the "Smurfs" set which showed up in Sofia Vergara's feed, as well as shots of "Twilight" actress Christian Serratos kissing a tiny animal and a Weezer band member caught in the wild.

Ronnie James Dio's Death And A Voice Of 'Red Dead Redemption' In Today's Twitter-Wood
Ronnie James Dio
Not since Frankie Muniz's visit to a Jonas Brothers concert last August have the lads appeared in a Twitter Pic of the Day, but Danny DeVito contributed a true masterpiece today — and one that will surely please foot fetishists the world over.

On a more serious note, you probably all know by now that former Black Sabbath frontman Ronnie James Dio passed away yesterday. Twitter-Wood was certainly aware, and memories from Mandy Moore, Brian Posehn and William Zabka have all been duly retweeted after the jump. There, you can also find out which former "Star Trek: The Next Generation" actor contributed to "Red Dead Redemption," whose trip to Monaco got cancelled thanks to a volcano, and who bonded with Toby Kieth over a couple Dodgers games. Lynn Redgrave's Death, The Kentucky Derby And iPad Decisions In Today's Twitter-Wood
Lynn Redgrave circa 1970s
Update: Internet weirdness left this post out of yesterday's publish, despite the fact that it Was actually published. So... enjoy your day late Twitter-Wood, and keep an eye out for Today's Twitter-Wood later!

Super Saver may have won the 2010 Kentucky Derby, but Fran Drescher won today's Twitter Pic of the Day with her Audrey Hepburn homage and modest hat for the event. Rain was not enough to scare her away from the race or the camera, it would appear.

A few tweets in the feed were decidedly less upbeat, though, as word broke that Oscar-nominated actress Lynn Redgrave passed away. An array of post from Alyssa Milano and Brody Stevens to Virginia Madsen and Denise Richards shared Twitter-Wood's collective reactions to her death. You can read a few of them after the jump, where you'll also find a quick update on "The Last Airbender" and Ashton Kutcher's advice to potential iPad buyers.

Conan O'Brien On TBS, Who Justin Bieber Supports And The Supergrass Break-Up In Today's Twitter-Wood
Conan O'Brien
Conan O'Brien fired up his Team CoCo tweeters today with news that he would bring a late-night show to TBS. George Lopez, whose show will move to make room for Conan, gained a whole new following as a result, including Aziz Ansari and James Urbaniak. Conan even got a shout-out from Justin Bieber about the announcement. Bieber, meanwhile, saw a new #JustinBieberSucks tag emerge, which was bound to happen sooner or later. Frankie Muniz picked that one up, though.

In other tweets, Edgar Wright mourned the break-up of the British band Supergrass, who strangely enough were responsible for the 1995 album I Should Coco. Mystères à Twin Peaks (1990)
The passing of former Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren saddened some Twitter-Wood posts today, and Edgar Wright was among those thinking about a proper tribute to him. Elsewhere, David Lynch called out one of his own life's accomplishments, pointing out the 20th anniversary of "Twin Peaks" premiering on TV.

Lloyd Kaufman, meanwhile, stepped up in defense of a remake of one of his classics, "The Toxic Avenger," which is being backed by Akiva Goldsman. While John Mayer has been busy apologizing on his own Twitter account for some controversial comments he made in a Playboy interview, opinions about his words have been sprouting up on other accounts throughout Twitter-Wood, in some cases prompting his defenders to defend themselves.

In more somber news, the reported suicide of designer Alexander McQueen sparked memorial tweets all over the place today, and I've got a few of those from Kirstie Alley, Tyra Banks and Kim Kardashian retweeted below. You can read those and find a picture from Ashton Kutcher en route to the London premier of "Valentine's Day," a shot of Andy Samberg on the "Parks and Recreation" set and some mighty excited exclation points from Brett Ratner after the jump in Twitter-Wood for February 11, 2010.

'Twilight' Cast Members, 'Transformers 3' And A New Randy Newman Song In Today's Twitter-Wood
Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Robert Pattinson in Twilight: chapitre 3 - Hésitation (2010)
Remember back when we had "Twilight" faces showing up in the feed on a daily basis in Twitter-Wood? Well, they're all over the place doing things since "Eclipse" filmed and "New Moon" launched, and it's been a good two months since a TwitPic of Christian Serratos and Edi Gathegi showed up. But they reemerged today.

Lee Unkrich, meanwhile, has been a regular poster, showing off shots of the "Toy Story 3" cast as they've shown up to the studio to record. Yesterday, he got a visit from singer/songwriter Randy Newman, though, and he reports that a new song has been created -- presumably for the film. Sandra Bullock and Quinton Aaron in The Blind Side (2009)
Nothing stirs up emotions, name-dropping and unbridled snark in Hollywood quite like the Academy Awards nominations, and each of these behaviors was alive and well this morning as the official Oscar contenders for 2010 went public.

‘Iron Man 2,’ Fred Travelena And Bernie Madoff In Today’s Twitter-Wood
Dive in, because I’ve got behind-the-scenes commentary from Jon Favreau, Ashton Kutcher, and Jeremy Piven in today’s handpicked crop of Twitter-Wood tweets. I also rounded up a few thoughts from film folks about yet another entertainment industry death, comedian and impersonator, Fred Travelena, as well as Bernard Madoff’s sentencing today, and Denzel Washington’s latest post about Michael Jackson. You find all of these, a picture taken by “Buffy” actress Amber Benson at one of my local Chicago comic book shops, and much more in the Twitter-Wood update for June 29, 2009, after the click.
