"No offense intended." "None comprehended."
The Tick is an overconfident, grandiose superhero played with his typical hilarious deadpan style by Patrick Warburton. Fighting for justice along with other so-called "superheroes" Batmanuel (Nestor Carbonell) and Captain Liberty (Liz Vassey), they welcome into their fold an accountant, Arthur (David Burke), who has big dreams of fighting crime on a grand scale. The Tick & Arthur must foil a clunky big Russian robot, the "Red Scare", whose mission is to exterminate ex-President Jimmy Carter.
Based on a popular comic book, this farcical goof on superhero stories is never truly uproarious, but has enough good laughs to make it watchable enough. Warburtons' comic talent and Burkes' sincerity help a lot. Overall, this pilot IS a little rushed, and basically leaps into the already well-formed world of these characters (ex. No back story for The Tick or his cohorts). It IS pretty lively, and well-paced, so even when the jokes don't land as well, the script is already moving on to the next ones. Overall, it's not bad.
Christopher Lloyd appears unbilled as Arthurs' boss.
"Gravity.....it's a harsh mistress."
