Synopsis

  • Stakes Larger Than Life (Polish title: Stawka wieksza niz zycie") is a very succesful Polish black & white Tv-series about the adventures of a secret agent, Hans Kloss. His from Poland, his real name is Stanislaw Kolicki, codename: J-23. Hans acts as a double agent in Abwehr during II World War in occupied Poland.

A true life story from the second world war.

Stanislaw was a double for the real German officer and was allowed to "escape" back to Germany and take the place of Hans Kloss in the Abwehr where he caused all sorts of trouble and made the Nazis suspect each other of being agents or traiters while never coming under serious suspicion himself. Eventually even gaining a promotion to Captain in the process. All the episodes are excellent and can be watched separately because the plots are not interconnected.

The series was filmed since 1967 to 1968 and it had 18 episodes.

Directors: Janusz Morgenstern and Andrzej Konic, each directed 9 episodes. Main role: Stanislaw Mikulski as Hans Kloss (lieutenant, later captain Kloss/J-23). Running time: 45-90 min. Original channel: Polish Television. Stakes Larger Than Life became very popular also in other countries, especially in former Czechoslovakia
