One of the best moments on SNL ever is when...

...Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscopo, in their characters as flamboyant hair dressers, are confronted with the force of nature that is Flip Wilson as Geraldine. SNL wasn't at its peak, and I'm sure a lot of people who didn't know who Flip Wilson was turned the channel as soon as he was announced as host. They missed out hugely. Wilson still had "it", and he does a comedy clinic for Murphy and Piscopo, who obviously had no idea just what this man could do in front of a live audience, and who were reduced to shivering blobs, laughing uncontrollably as Geraldine takes over the sketch. I put this sketch up there with every classic moment of SNL.

    • Trivia
Still photographs from the dress rehearsal show Flip Wilson playing a drill sergeant for a bunch of store Santa Clauses in a sketch that did not make it into the live broadcast.
    • Quotes

Saturday Night News Anchor: I'm Brad Hall, have a merry Christmas and a newsy New Year.

    • Crazy credits
The credits ends with "Nine Years of Thanks to Heino Ripp", Heino Ripp left SNL after this show to direct The New Show (1984).
    • Alternate versions
The May 1984 network rerun removes Older Sisters of the Young and replaces it with the Man on the Street segment (from Jerry Lewis/Loverboy (1983) ), as well as edits to the Dion's cold opening and Flip Wilson's monologue regarding a Polish joke.
