I absolutely love the message of this episode. It rings so true to high school. Jonathan and Mark are high school teachers. Jonathan is a substitute teacher and it's assumed Mark is too even though we never see what he does. Jonathan assigns an essay to his class that has Jack and Jenny in it. "What a friend means to me" is the assignment of the essay. It's about an overweight girl(Jenny) and a dumb jock(Jack). The overweight girl is a brainiac while the dumb jock could care less a bout school. Jack is only in school to play sports and win championships. Education is the last thing on his mind. Jenny is smart but doesn't have any friends. She has a huge crush on Jack(pictures of him all over her desk at home). Regular viewers of HtH can absolutely see where this story is going but the journey is well worth the watch. I highly recommend it.
The episode has three emotional scenes in it which can strike at your heartstrings. The scene with Jenny getting initiated into the club is heartbreaking. It's your typical mean girl moment from high school. The other is after that scene when Jonathan catches up to Jenny at the donut shop. He delivers one of the best lines of the entire HtH series in the parking lot. I'm not spoiling it because it's fantastic writing by Michael Landon, who wrote and directed this episode. The last scene at Jenny's house is a fantastic ending.
Watch this episode because it's great!
