Annabelle: Creation is one of 2017’s scariest films!
Variety reports: “Annabelle: Creation,” which conjured $35 million in its opening to dominate an otherwise lackluster frame last weekend, will wind up the weekend with about $64 million in its first 10 days. The film is the fourth in New Line’s highly profitable “Conjuring” universe and should see the combined worldwide grosses hit the $1 billion mark this weekend, thanks to 2013’s “The Conjuring,” 2014’s “Annabelle,” 2016’s “The Conjuring 2,” and “Annabelle: Creation.” Next up is “The Nun,” starring Taissa Farmiga and Demian Bichir and due out July 13.
In his review, Michael Haffner says “it proudly stands next to The Conjuring films as delivering real scares. What helps with this is making the audience afraid of not just the doll, but of what other being is haunting the house as well as the always hidden mother. It’s a terrifying trifecta that fits perfectly into the ominous surroundings.

As expected, New Line's Conjuring spin-off dubbed Annabelle Creation took the top spot at the box office this weekend with $35 million. The low-budget spin-off has already doubled its $15 million budget, and it's potentially shaping up to be one of the most profitable movies this year. Other newcomers The Glass Castle and The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature both underperformed, leading to weak opening box office numbers.
Box Office Mojo reports that Annabelle: Creation debuted in 3,502 theaters, for an impressive $10,006 per-screen average, with The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature debuting in third place with $8.9 million, with a meager $2,232 per-screen average from 4,003 theaters, behind Dunkirk in second palace with $11.4 million. The Glass Castle opened in ninth place with $4.8 million, earning a $3,337 per-screen average from 1,461 theaters. Annabelle: Creation, a spin-off of The Conjuring, came just shy of its predecessor, 2014's Annabelle, which debuted with $37.1 million, with a grand total of $256.8 million ($84.2 million domestic,...

While Sony's The Dark Tower did managed to take home the box office crown in its opening weekend, it certainly wasn't a convincing win, just barely beating Dunkirk with $19.1 million, coming in under most expectations. This weekend, The Dark Tower box office prospects are looking even worse, facing a tough second weekend that brings in three vastly different movies to theaters, New Line's horror prequel Annabelle: Creation, the Lionsgate drama The Glass Castle and the Open Road Films animated sequel The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature. It seems like a one-week reign at the box office will be all for The Dark Tower, since we're predicting Annabelle: Creation will take the top spot with $40.2 million, easily besting The Dark Tower and the rest of the field.

Don't write this Annabelle: Creation film off because the first movie wasn't that good. That first Annabelle film was rushed into production to capitalize off the success of The Conjuring. But, this sequel is the real deal. This sequel looks like a great film that tells a great story, and I'm totally excited about seeing it! I've heard great things about this film from people who have seen it, and if you're a fan of horror films, you won't want to miss out on this one.
Today we have a couple new clips from the film for you to watch. These are both pretty fun clips and each one offers up a wonderfully creepy scene that I think you'll enjoy.
Annabelle: Creation tells the tale of a dollmaker and his wife who, several years after the tragic death of their little girl, welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home.

Perhaps the only thing creepier than a haunted house is a haunted dollhouse, and that's only one of several paranormal items featured in the new Annabelle: Creation Vr experience that you can watch right now ahead of the film's August release.
"This cinematic paranormal Vr experience places you in the haunted bedroom of a child, where you are trapped in a game of hide-and-seek with Annabelle. The room comes alive as you move through it, while a possessed demon hunts you from all corners. There is no escape as you are compelled to face your greatest fears. http://annabellemovie.com/vr

I'm a huge fan of The Conjuring films, but I didn't really care for the first Annabelle spinoff film. It was disappointing and I didn't think it was very good or very scary. But this sequel, Annabelle: Creation, actually looks like it could really be good and it could actually bring terror into people's lives! Maybe it's because it deals with orphan kids stuck in a house in the middle of nowhere being tormented by a haunted doll. To take things to another level of intensity, one of the main little girl characters has a handicap that prevents her from getting away fast when the demon comes after her. Here's the synopsis:
Several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation,...

The Conjuring Universe is taking a trip down memory lane to reveal the true origin of the terrifying Annabelle doll. Take a look at the full-length trailer for Annabelle: Creation.
Previously titled Annabelle 2, Annabelle: Creation is the story of how the demonic demon doll came to be. The production of an origin story seems a bit frivolous when you consider that the first Annabelle was practically an origin. Today, we have a new look at dear little Annabelle in a just released photo. She is seen sitting on a bed with Talitha Bateman, who stars as Janice. Janice is obviously concerned that her new playmate is sitting straight up on the bed, looking as mischievous as ever. What did Annabelle do that has poor Ms. Bateman all riled up? We'll have to wait until this summer to find out!

Annabelle 2 is set to come out later this year, and the good folks over at New Line Cinema are hoping to build on the following created by the first film, which was a spinoff from James Wan's very successful horror film The Conjuring. The Annabelle doll was introduced in that film, and she sparked enough interest to get her own flick. The first Annabelle made $257 million when it came out in 2014, on a budget of only $6.5 million.
Annabelle 2 is being directed by David F. Sandberg, who directed last summer's very well-received scary movie Lights Out. The film is set to star Stephanie Sigman (“Spectre”), Talitha Bateman (“The 5th Wave”), Lulu Wilson (upcoming “Ouija 2,” “Deliver Us from Evil”), Philippa Coulthard (“After the Dark”), Grace Fulton (“Badland”), Lou Lou Safran (“The Choice”), Samara Lee (“Foxcatcher,” “The Last Witch Hunter”), Tayler Buck in her feature film debut, with Anthony Lapaglia...

There used to be this creepy-ass doll in my family that we would scare the shit out of each other with. We'd hide it in places and sneak it in places where we'd unsuspectingly find it. It all started when I snuck into my brother's bedroom while he was sleeping and placed it at the end of the bed sitting down staring at him. He woke up the whole house with the wonderful sounds of blood-curdling screams.
Anyway, this new photo that was released for the upcoming horror film Annabelle 2 reminded me of that. If I ever walked into my room at night and a doll like this was sitting up on my bed I'd take it and burn it. It would definitely send chills down my spine! I'm surprised that the poor girl in the photo isn't shown running out screaming like my little brother did.

Following the first look photo that director David F. Sandberg revealed yesterday, the first trailer for Annabelle 2 has arrived today. This trailer gives us our first look at Miranda Otto's character, along with a sneak peek at Annabelle's origins. We don't know when the first full trailer will arrive, but this footage hints that this follow-up could be just as terrifying as the original.

If you needed another reason to stay the Hell away from creepy looking dolls, the first teaser for Annabelle 2 has arrived to put a new spin on tea parties. Come inside to check it out!
Annabelle, the spooky doll from The Conjuring which sparked it's own spin-off movie series makes her return in the first look at footage from Annabelle 2:
Annabelle has always been interesting to me, mostly because it has such an odd place within these movies. The Conjuring really wasn't about the doll's possession, and despite the marketing focusing on it, only took up a little bit of screentime. The first spin-off was...okay. The plot was all over the place and aside from a few jump scares, felt all over the place.
Obviously this first trailer for Annabelle 2 doesn't do much in terms of the film's plot, but it does a solid job...

She's back.
Lights Out director David F. Sandberg and producer James Wan are reteaming for Annabelle 2, the sequel to the spin-off of The Conjuring that concentrates on the possessed doll eventually found by paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. This one has a cast that includes Stephanie Sigman (Spectre), Talitha Bateman (The 5th Wave), Lulu Wilson (upcoming Ouija 2, Deliver Us From Evil), Philippa Anne Coulthard (After the Dark), Grace Fulton (Badland), Lou Lou Safran (The Choice), Samara Lee (Foxcatcher, The Last Witch Hunter), Tayler Buck, with Anthony Lapaglia (TV’s Without a Trace) and Miranda Otto (Showtime’s Homeland, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy), and it hits theaters on May 19, 2017.
Warner Bros. has just released a video they're billing as an "announcement tease," and it's sufficiently spooky, largely because they don't show too much of what's going on and let your imagination do most of the heavy lifting.

I can't sit here and say Annabelle was a movie I really enjoyed. It had it's okay moments, but on the whole didn't live up to the fear factor laid out with The Conjuring. Instead it felt like a more subdued possession movie that lacked the charm of enjoyable characters. But it made money. As such, that means a sequel is on the way, which started filming today. Here's what this film is about:

Jason Anders/Starlog: So let's talk about your childhood and what it was like to grow up with your father serving as a U.S. army intelligence officer; what was it like for you to spend parts of your childhood in West Germany and Okinawa, how did that impact your life, and do you remember at what point you considered acting a pursuable passion?
Joe Morton: First off, my father was not an intelligence officer. He was a captain in the artillery but, essentially, his job was to integrate the arm forces overseas. We are speaking about the years between 1951 to 1958. That means my father showed up, with my mother and I in tow, to what ever post he was assigned to ... racially unannounced. That time of my life was fiercely strange and difficult. My father was constantly battling his white superior officers as well as the white enlisted...

Badland
Badland Corp.
The latest arrival in this fall's seemingly endless barrage of Iraq War-themed films, Badland is an achingly self-important portrait of a returning Marine reservist who commits an unspeakable act in the name of post-traumatic stress disorder.
Written and directed by Francesco Lucente with a heavy heart and a heavier hand, this overlong, over-the-top dirge is being pushed -- with pushed being the operative word -- as an awards-season contender.
Precious few are likely to see it that way, if they see it at all.
England's Jamie Draven is the damaged goods in question -- a once-idealistic Gulf War veteran who has recently returned from a tour of Afghanistan and Iraq, a jittery shadow of his former self.
Jerry's crying jags and nosebleeds elicit little sympathy from his bullying wife (Vinessa Shaw), who's sick and tired of their dead-end trailer park existence, while his three young children become an increasing burden to him.
Then one day, unsurprisingly, he snaps, going on a cold-blooded shooting spree that leaves his wife and two of those kids dead.
With his surviving daughter (Grace Fulton) in tow, Jerry goes on the lam and starts over in a new town on the U.S.-Canadian border, taking a job in a diner run by the sympathetic Oli (Chandra West), who's unaware of his horrific deed, despite all those news reports.
It's only a matter of time before Jerry's past finally catches up with him, and at a painfully protracted 160 minutes, Badland has oodles to spare.
When the picture gets around to its calculated socko ending, the viewer has long been pummeled into a state of numbness.
Each time Draven's character so much as quivers an eyebrow, Carlo Varini's camera, when it's not paying obvious stylistic homage to Terrence Malick's Badlands, moves in close for the kill, prompting the Budapest Symphony Orchestra to swell accordingly as a mournful choir of operatic voices similarly rises to the occasion.
Before it all comes to a crashing end, Lucente tosses a Bruce Springsteen tune into the overwrought mix -- no, not Badlands, but the more recent "Devils & Dust."
Too bad he never took a cue from that war-themed song's powerfully understated eloquence.
