How One Lonely Man’s Online Date Turned Into a Bloody Nightmare
Image
Online dating can be a minefield. Your feelings can get hurt. Your confidence can be shaken. Your time can be wasted. And you can wander into a maelstrom of murder, arson, and identity theft that leaves you questioning your previously established reality. This is the point at which a situation morphs from social annoyance to Netflix true crime documentary.

Lover, Stalker, Killer, whose title practically screams “edgy true crime doc!,” is a sort of tech-age cautionary tale about what can happen when you go looking for love on all the wrong websites.

Taylor Swift’s Upcoming Album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Is About Joe Alwyn? All The Reasons Why We Think So!
Image
Here’s Why We Think Taylor Swift’s Upcoming Album Is About Joe Alwyn! (Picture Credit: Instagram)

Taylor Swift made the 2024 Grammy Awards night more memorable by announcing her new album, The Tortured Poets Department. Meanwhile, her fans speculate it might be about her ex-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn. That might be possible as the actor once co-wrote two songs for a pop star, and if we think creatively, poets, thinkers, songwriters, or authors are all creators.

Taylor and Alwyn were together for six years before breaking up last year. Taylor soon found love in Travis Kelce, and the lovebirds are going strong now. Tay is known for writing songs about her former lovers. For example, Dead John was about John Mayer, Style for Harry Styles, Forever and Always for Joe Jonas, Midnight Rain for Tom Hiddleston, and more. However, Her song Lover is also believed to have been written for Joe,...

Netflix New Releases: February 2024
Image
It’s a weird month on Netflix in February; one that will probably require you to be open-minded about the shows and movies you’re willing to consume on the service.

There are quite a few library TV series arriving this month, for example. If you’re ready to start binge-watching Monk, My Wife and Kids, or acclaimed show Warrior, you’re in luck, as those complete seasons will be available. The Blacklist season 10, Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12, Brooklyn Nine-Nine seasons 1-4, and Young Sheldon season 6 will also be hitting the ‘Flix.

In terms of what’s new, there’s a ton of foreign language content and true crime stuff, but original English language stuff will largely be unscripted fare like Love is Blind, which is back for a new season. There are a few bits and bobs on the way outside of that, though. Netflix’s animated movie Orion and the Dark will debut,...

Taylor Swift’s Recording Engineer Praises Superstar Singer’s “One of a Kind” Work Ethic, Calls Rerecords “An Incredible Engineering Challenge”
Image
The nonprofit We Are Moving the Needle presented the Resonator Awards on Tuesday night, an inaugural celebration designed to spotlight women in the music business in a push for creating a more inclusive industry. Naturally, the biggest name in the game received a shout-out from the podium.

Two of Taylor Swift’s close collaborators — producer Jack Antonoff and mixer and recording engineer Laura Sisk — hit the stage inside Beauty & Essex in Hollywood. Antonoff had the honor of presenting the Exceptional Ears Award to Sisk, a three-time Grammy winner who has also worked with Lana Del Rey, Lorde, St. Vincent and Florence + the Machine.

Antonoff kicked off his tribute by detailing that he’s known Sisk for more than a decade. “She’s absolutely fucking incredible,” said Antonoff, one of two speakers from the podium who noted how loudly distracting the event’s kitchen staff was during the program. “I met Laura 12 or 13 years ago,...

Teddy Swims Performs Soulful Rendition of Taylor Swift’s ‘Cruel Summer’
Image
It might be early January, but it’s never too early for some “Cruel Summer.” On Thursday, Teddy Swims visited BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, where he performed a cover of the Taylor Swift Lover favorite.

Swims started the rendition backed only by a piano as he whispered the opening lyrics, before being joined by a drum kit as he hit the high notes in the song’s chorus, and gave a soulful rendition of the song’s iconic bridge.

“Cruel Summer” had a huge 2023, four years after its initial release.

Unsettling Love Triangle, True Crime Doc 'Lover, Stalker, Killer' Trailer
Image
Trying to find a pattern in the chaos. I found something that was missed by the original investigators..." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for yet another unsettling true crime documentary film called Lover, Stalker, Killer, streaming in February on Netflix. This feature doc from Curious Films (Running with the Devil) and director Sam Hobkinson, deftly assembles the pieces of a mind-bending true tale of harassment, digital deception, and murder in America’s heartland. Lover, Stalker, Killer tells the twisted tale of a modern-day love triangle gone murderously wrong. Following up other docs like The Tinder Swindler, this one examines how Nebraska auto mechanic Dave Kroupa's 2012 attempt to get into the online dating put him in a digital love triangle that ended in murder. This looks crazy! I don't like the way they over-stylize this incident and add all the dramatic music, but it still seems like a fascinating...

Taylor Swift Wraps 2023 By Breaking Elvis’ Record for Most Weeks at No. 1
Image
Taylor Swift wrapped up what has been a truly historic year with yet another truly historic accomplishment. With 1989 (Taylor’s Version) once again claiming the top spot on Billboard 200 this week, Swift has surpassed Elvis Presley for the most No. 1 weeks of any solo musician in music history.

To date, Swift has logged 68 weeks with the No. 1 album in America. That number tops Elvis’ previous record of 67 weeks at the top of the charts. Now, Swift sits behind only The Beatles, who spent 132 weeks at No. 1 over the course of their career.

2023’s Music by the Numbers: Taylor Swift Dominated, Country Boomed, and Hip-Hop Sunk
Image
Let’s get this out of the way: Taylor Swift dominated the year in music, and it wasn’t even close. Four-year-old songs of hers topped the charts. She sold physical albums at a head-spinning rate. Her Eras Tour was an economic stimulus in every city she played, and reignited conversations around the deeply broken ticketing marketplace as fans scrambled to purchase tickets. Her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce created a frenzy around a celebrity simply attending NFL games. And she also released some damn great music.

Get ready for another Taylor Swift coronation: She’s the front-runner for Top Artist at Billboard Music Awards
Image
The 2023 Billboard Music Awards are set to take place on Sunday, November 19, and it looks like it’ll be yet another awards coronation for Taylor Swift. According to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users as of this writing, she’s the favorite to win Top Artist. It would be her third victory in that race, which would tie Drake‘s record for the most in the category’s history.

These awards are strictly a popularity contest, but they’re not decided by fans voting online like the MTV Video Music Awards or the American Music Awards. Instead, they’re decided by the same metrics that are used to generate the weekly Billboard charts, like album sales, song sales, radio airplay and streaming. And during the eligibility period, Swift has been nothing if not successful. It might, in fact, be the most dominant period of her career.

Relive Taylor Swift And Jack Antonoff's Friendship Over the Years
Image
Though Taylor Swift's famous female friends, widely known as the "Squad," might be on everyone's radar, the superstar's low-key friendship with long-time music collaborator Jack Antonoff is the unsung hero of the 12-time Grammy-winning singer-songwriter's tight-knit inner circle. The two music geniuses first crossed paths in 2012 at the MTV EMAs, and that chance encounter led to their first collaboration, "Sweeter than Fiction" - a track featured on the soundtrack for the 2013 motion picture "One Chance."

That was just the beginning of a beautiful partnership - both in their personal and professional lives. Since then, the dynamic musical duo has worked together on numerous hit records, including "1989," "Lover," and "Midnights," having created some of the biggest fan-favorites, including "Getaway Car," "August," "Cruel Summer," "Anti-Hero," and many more.

Taylor Swift continues to defy the rules in the music industry alongside the Swifties as “Cruel Summer” from her Lover album hits the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The song was originally released in 2019 alongside the rest of the Lover album. Although Swift had intended for the song to be a single in 2020, the pandemic forced plans to change. As Swift embarked on The Eras Tour, “Cruel Summer” picked up steam again and has now achieved several rare feats.

With “Cruel Summer” hitting No. 1, Swift became the first female artist to score ten No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and ten No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200. “Cruel Summer” also gave Swift the longest run for a female soloist from a Hot 100 debut to No. 1, excluding holiday songs, climbing to the top spot after four years and two months.

Taylor Swift Joins Elite Musical Company with 10th No. 1 Single
Image
Taylor Swift has joined elite company by achieving her 10th No. 1 single, and it’s all thanks to a song originally released four years ago.

“Cruel Summer” tops this week’s Billboard Hot 100. The song was originally released way back in 2019 on her album Lover, but was promoted as a proper single during “The Eras Tour.” Last week, she further bolstered the song’s streaming numbers by unveiling a live version of the track as well as a new remix from by Giobbi.

“Cruel Summer” marks Swift’s 10th No. 1 single to date, following “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space,” “Bad Blood” featuring Kendrick Lamar, “Look What You Made Me Do,” “Cardigan,” “Willow,” “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version),” and “Anti-Hero.”

As a result, Swift becomes only the 12th artist ever to achieve 10 No. 1 singles. The Beatles currently hold the all-time record with 20 chart-toppers,...

Who Is Taylor Swift's "...Ready For It?" About? There's a Real Debate About the Sexy Track
Image
Taylor Swift's song "...Ready For It?" has been a fan favorite ever since it was released on her 2017 album "Reputation." As fans pile into theaters to see the Eras Tour movie and anxiously await the release of "Reputation (Taylor's Version)," the song is getting renewed attention. As one of Swift's sexiest tracks ever, "...Ready For It?" has a prime spot in the Eras Tour setlist, and we can't help but sing along every time. But the song also has some fans wondering which of Swift's exes she was thinking about when she wrote it.

Most of the love songs on "Reputation" were about Swift's then-boyfriend Joe Alwyn, so some fans think the song is about him. They were together from 2016 to 2023. However, some other fans have dug through the lyrics and think a much more likely candidate is Swift's other ex, Harry Styles, whom she briefly connected with...

What to Know About Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi's Romance
Image
Since she became a household name for her role as Eleven on Netflix's "Stranger Things," fans have been curious about Millie Bobby Brown's personal life, especially now that she's engaged. While the actor may have garnered more buzz in light of "Stranger Things"'s season four release, she's also generated attention for her sweet relationship with Jake Bongiovi.

In an Oct. 16 interview with Glamour, Brown opened up about what made her realize Bongiovi was the one. She entered the relationship shortly after getting out of what she described as an "unhealthy situation" with TikToker Hunter Ecimovic, who later claimed he had groomed Brown and made other disparaging comments before eventually apologizing. The ordeal made Brown feel "publicly humiliated," she told the outlet.

Ultimately, she said, a fear of being too much kept her small. "I think I was so afraid to be a strong woman in a relationship,...

Taylor Swift Is The Next Steven Spielberg? Director Weighs In On Singer's Movie Future
Image
Director Shawn Levy praises Taylor Swift's potential as a director, comparing her to Steven Spielberg, citing her strong instinct and vision for her creative work. While Swift didn't direct Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, her past experience directing her own music videos showcases the depth of her artistic vision. The technical prowess and success of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, with its impeccable editing and record-breaking pre-sale, positions Swift for potential box office success with her own feature film.

Director Shawn Levy likens Taylor Swift to director Steven Spielberg. Swift is making a huge cinematic splash this fall with the release of her concert documentary Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour which documents her recent blockbuster tour and is directed by Sam Wrench. Beyond that, Swift has appeared in a number of movies over the years and plans to direct her own soon after helming the short film for her song "All Too Well.

Who’s surprisingly Not on the Grammy ballot this year?
Image
Eligibility for the Grammys is relatively simple: release during the eligibility period, though in some cases songs from the previous cycle are eligible as well provided they were released as singles in the current Grammy year. Despite this, here are a few artists that either weren’t eligible or just weren’t submitted for awards consideration this year.

SEEGrammy voting is underway: Here are the 8 albums we’re currently betting on for Album of the Year nominations

“Calm Down” by Rema and Selena Gomez

The biggest absence this year on the Grammy ballot was Rema and Selena Gomez’s multi-format smash hit “Calm Down (Remix).” The original song, a solo version by Rema, was submitted last year to the Best Global Music Performance category. The remix with Gomez also came out before last year’s eligibility ended, though, so it would have needed to take advantage of a loophole to be eligible again this year.

The ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ Experience: Breaking Down Sing-Along Moments, Fan Freak-Outs, and More
Image
Are you ready for it?

Several IndieWire staffers met up Friday night for what was supposed to be opening night of “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” at a NYC theater. Anticipation? High. Energy level? Even higher. Drinks consumed? Unprecedented.

Taylor’s Eras tour concert film is so much concert film. It’s nearly three hours long and Swift is her supernova self, hustling through 17 years of music with eras both mellow and nostalgic. (A high point in our particular theater was the euphoric in-your-seat dancing to high school throwback “You Belong with Me.”) While the audience energy level was definitely higher than the kind you’d find with your typical Friday night cinephiles, the crowd mostly remained seated, and the singing along was kept simply to key lyrics.

It was a night filled with friendship bracelets, light up Taylor glow sticks (more on that later), and at least one homemade Taylor T-shirt.

Who Is Taylor Swift's "Cruel Summer" About? What We Know
Image
Some of Taylor Swift's most devoted fans were very happy this June when news broke that her song "Cruel Summer," off of 2019's "Lover," was officially being released as a single. The news was first reported by U.S. Radio Updater on X (formerly Twitter) on June 14 and was later confirmed by Billboard. The song, cowritten by Swift, Jack Antonoff, and St. Vincent's Annie Clark, has long been a Swiftie fan favorite.

But if you're a more casual Swiftie, you might not be as familiar with "Cruel Summer." Ahead, we break down what the song's about, why the single release of "Cruel Summer" was such a big deal for fans, and its chart performance.

What Is Taylor Swift's "Cruel Summer" About?

In "Cruel Summer," Swift narrates a casual relationship that takes place during the summer. She sings about sneaking out and around, slipping over garden walls, and climbing out of windows.

All the Taylor Swift Songs Ex-Boyfriend Joe Alwyn Has (Probably) Inspired
News broke on April 10 that Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn had quietly called it quits this spring after six years together. Though the pair were together for a long time, both were mostly tight-lipped about their connection and life together - except, that is, when it came to Swift's songwriting.

The pair first connected while Swift was working on her 2017 album "Reputation," and fans believe quite a few songs on the record are about her then-new boyfriend. Many of the songs on her "Lover" album, released in 2019, are all about falling deeper in love with her longtime beau. Her single "Lover," which includes quite a few wedding references, even sparked major engagement rumors for the pair.

When Swift released "Folklore" and "Evermore" in 2020, not only were a few of the songs about her romance with Alwyn, but she teamed up with her partner to write some of them as well.

Taylor Swift's Song "Marjorie" Has the Most Sentimental Meaning
Image
When Taylor Swift kicked off her highly anticipated Eras Tour on March 18, fans worldwide were curious about what would and wouldn't make the set list.

During the tour (which is now also a film), Swift performs at least one song from almost all of her album eras, giving particular attention to the albums released since her last tour in 2018: 2019's "Lover," 2020's "Folklore" and "Evermore," and 2022's "Midnights." There's also a different surprise song every night. But the section of the show that focuses on her "Evermore" album is, perhaps, most surprising to fans, as it features some of the saddest songs from her discography. One particular standout is the song "Marjorie," which is only one of two songs in Swift's catalog named after a woman. In fact, "Marjorie" is actually about a real person - the singer's late maternal grandmother, Marjorie Finlay.

Just like "Folklore"'s "Epiphany," which...

Taylor Swift at an event for 2019 Golden Globe Awards (2019)
Here Are All the Songs in ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ Movie
Taylor Swift at an event for 2019 Golden Globe Awards (2019)
Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” concert film premiered Wednesday night to an enthusiastic crowd of celebrities, fans and of course Taylor’s team, with the star of the film in attendance. As one of the first to see the film, TheWrap has the scoop on which songs from the wildly popular tour made the film, and which songs were cut.

After making speeches in multiple auditoriums for separate audiences, Swift, clad in a sky blue floral-patterned dress (probably in theme for “1989 (Taylor’s Version) with her hair pinned up like the signature bob she had when that album first came out), sat back to enjoy the experience in one of the IMAX screening rooms with her background vocalists and publicist Tree Paine.

The documentary runs 2 hours and 48 minutes, slightly shorter than Swift’s three-hour setlist and performance, which she has brought to 17 of the United States so far in addition to Mexico.

‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ Review: A Sometimes Exhausting, Often Exhilarating, Always Impressively Immersive Screen Experience
Image
You probably don’t need this review to tell you if you’ll enjoy Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour as a movie. You can surely already guess, based on how much you enjoyed (or think you might have enjoyed) Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour as a concert. Because this movie is exactly no more and no less than what it says on the tin: a filmed version of Swift’s record-breaking show, captured over three performances in Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium. Aside from a few onstage “bloopers” over the closing credits, there’s next to nothing in the way of supplementary material — no interviews, no behind-the-scenes footage, no commentary on what any of this means.

But what a concert it is — and what an experience it makes, even in the relatively modest confines of a movie theater.

As has been exhaustively documented over the past seven months, the Eras Tour...

Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ Is as Exhilarating on Screen as in the Flesh: Film Review
Image
“When will Taylor Swift’s film career take off?” has been a question lurking in the back of a lot of people’s minds ever since she started getting her feet wet with bit parts in “The Giver” and “Valentine’s Day” … and then further limited herself to keeping her toes damp with “Cats” and “Amsterdam” cameos. But do we finally have an answer to that question now, or what? Nobody should suppose that “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” doesn’t count as establishing her as a movie star, just because it’s a straightforward rendering of an ongoing concert tour that’s soon to become the most successful in history. It’s 2 hours and 45 minutes of nearly nonstop acting, writ large for the back row of SoFi Stadium and, now, Imax and Dolby. What she might do with lengthy dialogue passages someday remains to be seen, but she’s...
