Disney+ has unveiled an all-star cast for its series about Jean Charles de Menezes, who was tragically mistaken for a terrorist after the London 7/7 bombings by police and shot dead.

Set to premiere in the spring, Jeff Pope’s series Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes has cast a newcomer in the role of de Menezes, Edison Alcaide, who will be joined by Conleth Hill, Russell Tovey, Max Beesley, Emily Mortimer, Daniel Mays, Laura Aikman and The Crown star Alex Jennings.

Mortimer will play Cressida Dick, who went on to become the chief of the Metropolitan Police, while Hill is Sir Ian Blair, who was police chief at the time of de Menezes’ death.

The series comes 20 years after 7/7 and a wealth of documentaries about the attack that shook Britain are also airing or have already aired, including Channel 4’s Shoot to Kill: Terror on the Tube about de Menezes.

Oscar-nominated screenwriter Jeff Pope (“Philomena”) and Xavier Marchand of “Nautilus” producer Moonriver TV are teaming up on “Castle of the Eagles,” a six-episode limited series based on the true story of Allied POWs who staged a daring prison break from a fortified Italian castle during World War II.

The duo will be presenting the project to an industry audience in Rome during the Mia Market, which runs Oct. 14 – 18.

Written by Pope and based on the book of the same name by Mark Felton, “Castle of the Eagles” is produced by Marchand for Moonriver and Pope for his production label Etta Pictures, which is part of ITV Studios. “Harry Potter” star Jason Isaacs, who played Cary Grant in the four-part ITV biopic “Archie” written by Pope, is attached in a lead role.

Euros Lyn-directed drama stars Toni Collette and Damian Lewis.

Cornerstone Films has secured worldwide sales for Euros Lyn-directed drama Dream Horse, including a multi-territory deal with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (Spwa).

The film, which stars Toni Collette and Damian Lewis, has also been sold to Germany (Welt Kino), Switzerland (Impuls), Japan (Hakuhodo Dy Music & Pictures) and airlines (Terry Steiner).

As previously announced, Bleecker Street and Topic Studios have jointly acquired Us rights and Warner Bros is distributing in the UK. The Spwa deal includes rest of world, excluding Canada, Italy and France.

“Best of British” streaming service BritBox is making further moves into original production, announcing a new multi-series collaboration with Oscar-nominated writer-producer Jeff Pope during its Television Critics Association panel on Saturday. BritBox will co-produce Pope’s new dramas “The Barking Murders” and “The Hatton Garden Heist” with the BBC.

“The Barking Murders” stars Stephen Merchant, Sheridan Smith and Jaime Winstone and is written by Neil McKay, who previously collaborated with Pope on 2017’s “The Moorside,” also starring Smith, and 2011 miniseries “Appropriate Adult.” The three-part factual drama, executive produced by Pope, focuses on the families of the victims of a convicted serial killer (Merchant). It is scheduled to start filming this spring and will air on BBC One in the U.K.

Philomena, Mrs Biggs, The Widower and most recently Cilla - Jeff Pope has made a career out of plowing real-life stories to produce drama on both the big and small screen; and it's paid off, with the writer winning two BAFTAs and an Academy Award.

His latest accolade is a BAFTA TV Special Award - an honour presented in recognition of an outstanding creative contribution to television, with previous recipients including TV exec Jane Tranter, director Paul Greengrass and dramatist Alan Clarke.

Pope started his career in journalism - working as a reporter and researcher - and says the skills he learned have kept him "in good stead" throughout his career as a screenwriter.

Chronicling the life of Cilla Black, the three-part drama series comes to an end at 9pm on Monday, September 29 on ITV.

Sheridan Smith stars as Cilla Black in the biopic, which charts the Liverpudlian's rise to fame as a popstar in the swinging '60s.

Episode two will follow Cilla as she rediscovers her confidence, and delves into her relationship with Brian Epstein (Ed Stoppard).

Sheridan Smith will star in an ITV1 drama about Great Train Robbery criminal Ronnie Biggs and his ex-wife Charmian. Mrs Biggs is a new-five part drama from writer and producer Jeff Pope (Appropriate Adult, See No Evil: The Moors Murders), which follows the story of Charmian falling in love with the infamous Ronnie. Danny Mays (Ashes to Ashes, Public Enemies) will star as Biggs, while Adrian Scarborough (Upstairs Downstairs) and Caroline Goodall (The Good Wife) will play Charmian's parents. Oscar nominated actress Julie Walters (Billy Elliot, Educating Rita) stars as former Northern Ireland secretary Mo Mowlam in a new single drama 'Mo' for transmission on Channel 4 in 2010. Filming begins in Northern Ireland this month. The drama, written by Neil McKay (See No Evil: The Moors Murders, Innocents, Wall of Silence, Dunkirk), will be a compelling account of Mowlam's life depicting her rise to prominence in New Labour and her part in the extraordinary events that led to peace in Northern Ireland, as well as an intimate story of love and bravery. Mo Mowlam's family are in full support of the project. The all star cast also includes David Haig; Gary Lewis; Toby Jones; Adrian Dunbar; John Lynch; Eoin McCarthy and Steven Mackintosh.

LONDON -- The BBC dominated the field Wednesday as the 2007 BAFTA Television Award nominations were announced. It earned 37 mentions, including two each in the best actor and actress categories.

The awards, the annual gala highlight of the U.K television industry, will be televised live May 20 on BBC1.

With 20 nominations, Channel 4 is the pubcaster's closest rival, while ITV came in third with 14 noms, the Five channel racked up two, and digital network Sky One earned three.

Longford, Channel 4's examination of the aftermath of the chilling 1970s Moors murders, earned four nominations and will see co-stars Jim Broadbent and Andy Serkis compete for the best actor award alongside John Simm from BBC1's Life on Mars and Michael Sheen in Kenneth Williams: Fantabulousa!

Longford also is up for best single drama, competing against Fantabulosa, The Road to Guantanamo and Housewife 49.

Mars was nominated in the best drama series category alongside first-timers The Street and Sugar Rush and third-time nominee Shameless. And in the drama serial category, Prime Suspect: The Final Act takes on The Virgin Queen, See No Evil: The Moors Murders and drama thriller Low Winter Sun.

In the debuting international category, Entourage, House, Lost and My Name Is Earl will face off for the prize.
