“Here Be Dragons,” by the Sundance selected Iria Gómez Concheiro (“The Cinema Hold Up”) takes place after a military coup, confronts “a culture of fear,” she says. “Genesis” unspools during the Earth’s final days, “The Swimmers” during the hottest summer in the history of Buenos Aires, suffering mass exodus, “Girls Ground” is set in a coastal town poisoned by its heavy industry.
Other films portray characters turning to (“8 Ways to Die”) and preparing to abandon (“That Shadow Fading”) bedrock affective relationships. One keynote is a sense of disillusionment. Such themes will be given, however, a regional twist, their makers promise.

But while onscreen, she may seem the perfect actress who knows how to bring to life the characters assigned to her, offscreen, Plaza’s life has been met with some tragedies. One of these includes the time she suffered a stroke out of nowhere when she was only 20. With a bassy voice and over a minimalist syncopated beat, Wilfredo "Willy" Aldarondo sings of lament. "The love of my life left for New York / my mom followed my aunt, to Florida they went/packing my bags, it's my turn now / the plane landed, and no one clapped."
These are the opening lines of "Tierra," the leading single off the Puerto Rican band Chuwi's newest EP of the same title. Founded in 2020 in the northwestern coastal town of Isabela, Chuwi is composed of Willy, his sister Lorén Aldarondo, his brother Wester Aldarondo, and friend Adrián López. Describing the band's sound is a challenge in and of itself. Are they Latin jazz, indie rock, urbano, tropical fusion, or something else altogether? The answer to all of those questions is "yes."

Guy Ritchie is one of the busiest filmmakers, with a string of movies since 2015 including blockbusters and critical bombs. His upcoming film "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" featuring Henry Cavill is generating buzz for its unique take on World War II. Ritchie's work ethic outpaces many top directors, with a prolific output and consistent collaborations with star-studded ensembles.
A close look at The Ministery of Ungentlemanly Warfare director Guy Ritchie's recent filmography reveals he could be the hardest-working filmmaker in the business. Ritchie made his breakthrough with 1998's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, a British gangster comedy that also marked Jason Statham and Vinnie Jones' screen debuts. In addition to the fame his relationship (and eventual marriage) to Madonna brought him, Guy Ritchie's movies ran the gamut from gangster flicks (Snatch) to blockbusters like the Robert Downey Jr Sherlock Holmes duology.

Guy Ritchie recently responded to a lawsuit accusing him of including material in action-comedy film The Gentlemen copied from the script for an unmade sequel to 2008's RocknRolla.
As reported by Variety, Ritchie's defense filing rejects actor and writer Mickey de Hara's allegation that The Gentlemen's screenplay represented a "reproduction of a substantial part" of the abandoned RocknRolla sequel. The filmmaker, best known for 2000 gangster movie Snatch and Robert Downey Jr.'s two Sherlock Holmes outings, also denied that De Hara wasn't compensated for his contribution to the script for RocknRolla 2, which Ritchie titled "The Real RockNRolla." According to Ritchie's defense filing, De Hara received £25,000 for his input on The Real RocknRolla screenplay -- a payment that Ritchie contends gave him ownership over whatever story or character elements De Hara supplied that did find their way into The Gentlemen.

For the third weekend in a row, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" is coming out on top at the box office, with Universal's animated Nintendo adaptation showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. The movie will absolutely hit $1 billion globally now as a matter of when, not if, and soon. But as impressive as that movie's run continues to be (we'll get into that more in a second) this past weekend's big newcomer was "Evil Dead Rise." While the fifth entry in the long-running horror franchise was never truly going to compete for the crown, it exceeded expectations and all but ensured that the series won't stay dead for another decade this time around.
According to The Numbers, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" topped the charts with a third-weekend haul of $59.9 million. That represents a mere 35 percent drop week-to-week, signaling just how starved moviegoers were for a family-friendly film.

The soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino’s war epic Inglourious Basterds features songs by a wide range of artists, from pop legends like David Bowie to prominent film composers like Ennio Morricone. Inglourious Basterds is Tarantino’s blood-soaked take on a guys-on-a-mission World War II movie like The Dirty Dozen and The Guns of Navarone, charting two parallel plots to assassinate Adolf Hitler. In the final scene, Tarantino declares Inglourious Basterds to be his masterpiece via Brad Pitt’s suave antihero, Lt. Aldo Raine. The film has a chilling villain, a subversive alternate-history storyline, and one of the director’s most memorable soundtracks.
Inglourious Basterds was Tarantino’s first period piece, but he didn’t let the historical setting get in the way of his signature needle drops. A lot of the music featured in Inglourious Basterds is anachronistic. The soundtrack of Tarantino’s action-packed, darkly comedic treatise on cinema’s...

Aubrey Plaza is starring in the new spy movie Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, which has curiously not been well-promoted despite its outstanding cast. Since starring in the hit sitcom Parks and Recreation, Aubrey Plaza has become a beloved Hollywood figure for her dark deadpan humor and on-screen charisma. At least half of European Netflix and Amazon Prime subs’ viewing time could be spent watching non-English language content by 2030, according to leading analytics firm Digital-i.
The firm’s latest report raised fears of a “devaluation of U.S. and UK productions” if the trend continues moving at this swift pace, having more-than doubled since 2019.
Using its newly-developed SoDa streamer measurement system, Digital-i found that viewers from the major European territories spent 22% of their time watching non-English language content in October 2021 compared with 10% two years prior. Across the same period, the percentage of non-English language shows in Netflix’s catalogue increased from 25% to 31%. Viewing to Amazon’s non-English shows doubled to 16% over the period, while its catalogue increased from 19% to 25%.
October 2021 saw Squid Game dominating but French drama Lupin (pictured) and older but nonetheless popular offerings such as Money Heist and Dark were also flagged as driving the change.

Returnal is a PlayStation 5 exclusive title that falls into the "rogue-lite" category, a genre of games inspired by the groundbreaking 1980 computer game Rogue. Modern rouge-lites tend to forego the hardcore RPG trappings of the genre's namesake, however, in favor of more diverse gameplay structures, more in-depth combat mechanics, and more fleshed-out narratives.

This is certainly the case with Returnal, as many—but not all—of the mechanics in the game can be found in prior rogue-lite releases. Returnal combines these mechanics with those that it introduces on its own to reach a nice balance of difficulty and familiarity.

The trials and tribulations of the students at Las Encinas will continue to be charted at Netflix.
The streamer on Thursday officially ordered a fifth season of the Spanish-language drama Elite, well in advance of its Season 4 premiere.
Netflix made the announcement on Twitter, but Deadline revealed that the fifth season will also bring another two new cast members into the fold in Argentinian actress Valentina Zenere (Cable Girls) and Brazilian actor André Lamoglia (Juacas), but no character details were revealed.
Elite typically likes to keep viewers in suspense when new additions are announced due to the nature of the series.
Each season follows a new mystery in a similar vein to Big Little Lies, with the characters being quizzed by the police about the events.
Elite was renewed for Season 4 in May last year, but production was scuppered due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with the series finishing filming much later than originally planned.

Canadian actor and stuntman Simu Liu has been cast in the role of the titular hero of the film. In an interview with Toronto Life, the actor revealed that trying on his superhero costume for the first time moved him to tears, before giving way to irritation.
"The first time I tried on Shang-Chi's superhero suit. Marvel has never had an Asian lead, so that was such a rare and impactful moment, for me as an actor but also for people who look like me. MCU actress Teyonah Parris has revealed when WandaVision takes place. The new Disney+ series premiered last week with two episodes, and Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are trying to figure out what exactly is going on. The first two episodes did not really provide any overt information as to how the show will connect to the MCU as a whole, or even when it takes place, leaving for a lot of speculation amongst diehard fans. Thankfully, Parris has given these fans a new piece of information, that will more than likely lead to more speculation.
One of the bigger theories floating around is that WandaVision takes place before the events of Infinity War, or even right before Avengers: Endgame, like the Black Widow standalone movie. However, those theories have now been officially debunked. Teyonah Parris says, "[WandaVision] picks up right after the events of Avengers: Endgame, and for Monica [Rambeau], it's obviously...

If there’s ever a Hall of Fame for climate scientists, Michael Mann will be among the first to be inducted. More than 20 years ago, Mann — now a distinguished professor of atmospheric science at Penn State, as well the director of the university’s Earth Systems Science Center — co-authored a paper that proved that the 1990s had been the northern hemisphere’s warmest decade in the past 1,000 years. “Wonder Woman 1984” used its lasso of truth to rope in a modest $5.5 million over the New Year’s holiday. The sequel also ensnared another $10.1 million from overseas markets, bringing its global total to a ho-hum $118.5 million.
Wonder Woman may be an iconic comic book character, but the film’s lackluster results aren’t that surprising given how severely coronavirus has upended the movie business. However, the weekend’s domestic grosses do represent a steep decline, signaling waning interest from fans, and are a far cry from the box office returns of pre-pandemic blockbusters. Stateside, “Wonder Woman 1984,” which is being released by Warner Bros., has earned $28.5 million.

A new year means a new start. But in its list of new year releases for January 2021, Hulu is sending a message of…eh, we’ll get the year started in February. Not to be overly rude to the usually sturdy streaming service, but there’s not much going on for Hulu in 2021’s first month.
Perhaps the biggest release of note is something that already enjoyed a successful release for ITV in the U.K. The Sister is the lates thriller from Neil Cross (Luther) and it makes its U.S. debut on Hulu on Jan. 22. 2020 comedies Save Yourselves and Like a Boss both arrive on Jan. 1. The grandest night of Indian television, Star Parivaar Karega Welcome 2021 will celebrate many aspects of life. One of them being ‘romance’ that lies in the heart of all the stories on Star Plus.
It will be an evening high on glitz, glamour and entertainment. The 2 main performances will bring forth a different mood of love from being passionate to dreamy and from young to ethereal.
The prominent couple Kartik (Mohsin Khan) and Naira (Shivangi Joshi) performed on high energy Bollywood Numbers like Ghungroo (from movie War) and Burj Khalifa (from the movie Laxmii) portraying the magic of young romance in their act. Their cute and innocent chemistry is just hard to ignore.
While the second performance by the iconic couple Ishita (Divyanka) & Raman (Karan) looked absolutely inconceivable as the actors brought alive the act with hi octane romantic songs. Their strong chemistry was visible in their performance and you should definitely not miss this one.
