Hindsight teaches that every so often, passing on a particular show is the best thing a channel could have done. Not ordering one pilot to series spurs its creators on to start another, and frees up its cast to join new projects.
Had the failures below all thrived, there’s a chance we could now be living in a world with no Breaking Bad, Hannibal, or even South Park. Had these pilots gone on to enjoy healthy, lengthy lives, then Jack Bauer, Oberyn Martell, Chandler Bing and more might all be unrecognisable today.

Tergesen, Curran get 'A.M.P.E.D.'
Lee Tergesen and Tony Curran have been tapped to star on Spike TV's one-hour drama pilot A.M.P.E.D., from Fox 21 and co-creators/executive producers Frank Spotnitz and Vince Gilligan. In addition, Steven Mitchell and Craig Van Sickle, who co-created and produced NBC's The Pretender, have come on board the project as showrunners/executive producers, while Rob Lieberman (USA Network's The Dead Zone) will direct the pilot and serve as an executive producer. Also joining the cast are Sarah Brown, Josh Biton, Cynthia Addai-Robinson and Troy Winbush.
