middle of the road

Watched this not knowing what to expect, mainly because it had Reggie Bannister in it (for a whole 60 seconds or so.) Made for a simple movie to have on in the background while also doing other things. It wasn't superb acting, a complicated plot or anything. Just some unfortunate stuff that happens to some schmuck.

To be honest, while it's not a complicated plot, it does make you somewhat feel for Edgar's character. He just wants to do right by his girlfriend and gets caught up in a bad situation. Not 100% sure how I felt about his acting. It wasn't too bad, but at the same time it seemed a bit plastic.

The two lead females however deliver a pretty decent performance.

The plot synopsis is a bit misleading, but has the gist of the film in it. Was hoping for a bit more suspense or something, but like I said, it's sorta just a bunch of stuff that happens to Edgar.

Borrrrrr-innnnnng!

A Montreal DJ, following his girlfriend to Los Angeles, falls into a deadly relationship with a couple of female hitchhikers.

Sounds like it could be fun, right?

Well firstly the title music is horrible. It makes you want to run just to get a way from it. I had to FF thru the titles.

Next, the acting is horrendous. And the film making is so shoddy that in one of the initial scenes (in the car) the girl has flies on her and no one re-shot the scene!!!

OMG!

Of course the car breaks down. Oy Vey. The one positive thing I can say is that the color is really nice. It pops. Other than that, the movie is horrible.

It seems that it was marketed as a "film noir" but whoever came up with that bright idea doesn't know the first thing about film noir. DOA is film noir, Detour is film noir. This is garbage. The truth is, the writer stole a scene right out of Detour! Amazing.

Pretty good if you're into film noir

Saw this at a film festival last year. This isn't a typical thriller. It's more of a mystery noir film. Moody lighting, low key acting, murder and femmes fatals. If you rent it expecting car chases and fight scenes you'll be left on your appetite. If you're a fan of film noir, crime stories, this little gem will not disappoint. It also reminded me of Detour, the 1945 film by Edgar Ulmer. There is some creative use of camera work and lighting. Like I say, it's all very subtle compared to the typical "thrillers" we get nowadays. The special effects are great. With many Route 66 locations depicted like over the top Americana. The actors have some great moments, and other not so great but overall very professional considering their age. Music and sound could have been better but then again, this is low budget film making. I would recommend this movie to teenagers and fans of film noir everywhere.

Odd & Surprising Scare Flick

Rating is closer to 6.5. It's good enough that I rounded up after seeing that the IMDb viewers as a whole were rating it far too low. It's the rough equivalent of a good 70s B movie. The acting isn't great, but it is all believable and helps pull the film along.

Basically, it's a somewhat smarter, more believable version of a hitchhiker films that typically result in power car chases and crashes, blah blah blah. Fortunately, none of that is involved.

It's more like an early attempt to make a film like Lost Highway or U-Turn.

One of the more disappointing elements was the ending along with the ending music. It didn't kill it, but the director/writer really needs to work on that.

Updated film noir/road-noir saved by emergence of gifted actress

The film is not as bad as I was led to believe. There is promise of what could have been. "Interstate" pays homage to one of the earlier films in the film noir genre, "Detour" and is kind of a road-noir.

There is, however a bright light and a revelation to this film. The emergence of a young face well-suited to film noir. A very gifted actress by the name of Alexandra Ackerman, who should have a long and prosperous career in film. As the female lead, Veronica she is alluring and seductive. You can't take your eyes off her. She is every guy's vision of a goddess. There is something captivating about her. While this may not be a great film, the mere presence of this actress makes it worth watching. I look forward to seeing other films with her in the lead. For this reason alone, I recommend the film.
