Jinkx Monsoon and Liam Krug’s “Sketchy Queens” returned for Season 2 this week, further cementing its place in a long line of iconic sketch comedy series.

As a longtime fan of “SNL,” “MADtv,” “Kids in the Hall,” “In Living Color” and “The Big Gay Sketch Show,” Monsoon, a two-time winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” told TheWrap how those shows helped prepare her to be ready for anything as an entertainer — even if she has to improv.

“I never know when these things will come, so I’ve just got stuff ready at any moment,” Jinkx explained of her career. “One time, I had to pull a tap dance out of my ass to prove that I could tap dance, and sure enough I had just enough to prove it. I’ve spent a long time preparing myself for whatever the moment calls for.”

Since its end in 1997, "Married... with Children" has maintained a legacy as one of the strangest and longest-running television shows of its kind. The Fox sitcom was, on its face, a standard multi-camera sitcom about a dysfunctional family and the colorfully zany characters that breezed in and out of their suburban enclosure. Katie Dippold and Hiro Murai are teaming up on a new series for Apple TV+ titled “Widow’s Bay.”

The project, which hails from Apple Studios, centers on a “mysteriously cursed New England island and its superstitious citizens, led by a mayor who refuses to believe their warnings,” according to the official logline.

Dippold serves as series creator, showrunner and executive producer for “Widow’s Bay.” Murai is attached to direct the pilot and will produce the series alongside Claudia Shin and Carver Karaszewski.

The horror-comedy series will consist of 10 episodes. No casting information is available at this time.

Dippold holds writing credits on movies like “Haunted Mansion,” “Snatched,” “Ghostbusters” and “The Heat” and TV series including “Parks and Recreation,” “The Big Gay Sketch Show” and “Mad TV.” She was twice-nominated at the WGA Awards for her work on “Parks and Recreation” in 2012 and 2013.

Erica Ash, best known for her role on BET’s Real Husbands of Hollywood and Survivor’s Remorse, has passed away at the age of 46.

The actress’s death was confirmed by her mother in a statement to CNN, revealing that Ash succumbed to a “long and courageous battle with cancer” on Sunday.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, and friend Erica Chantal Ash,” her mother, Diann Ash, shared.

“Erica was an amazing woman and talented entertainer who touched countless lives with her sharp wit, humor, and genuine zest for life. Her memory will live eternally in our hearts.”

Ash was active on social media in January but had not shared any posts in several months leading up to her untimely death.

Paramount has all but given up on Logo, a once-groundbreaking experiment in commercial media for LGBTQ audiences, insiders told TheWrap, confirming something that’s been obvious to anyone who bothered to tune into the creatively moribund cable channel.

It’s been a slow death, starting with the loss of the channel’s signature show, “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” first to sister channel VH1 in 2017, then this year to MTV. A “federation” of websites has faded away, with the leading NewNowNext property redirected to logotv.com. The Logo brand didn’t make the jump to Paramount+, though a handful of Logo-born shows like the “Drag Race: All Stars” spin-offs now stream there.

The channel’s once-robust push for original programming ceased ages ago and layoffs have left Paramount’s LGBTQ channel gutted, with “just about no full-time employees,” one insider told TheWrap and two other individuals with knowledge confirmed.

TNT has renewed its surging nail salon-centric crime series, Claws, for Season 3

Claws Season 3 is officially on the way at TNT.

Claws debuted back on May 25, 2017 to 1 million viewers, kicking off a 10-episode inaugural season that managed to achieve an increase in viewership episode-to-episode, culminating with 1.57 million for the finale. The series proved the loyalty of its fanbase in Season 2, which launched on June 10, 2018 to 1.3 million viewers, maintaining a 1.2 million overall average as of this writing. Additionally, the series appears to be gaining other-media momentum, with its digital viewership reportedly doubled year-over-year, with substantial social media growth on Twitter and Facebook.

Showcasing a genre amalgam of comedy and crime, Claws, created by Eliot Laurence, centers on Desna Simms (Niecy Nash), the owner of a Florida nail salon, who uses her mani-pedi proprietorship as a front for laundering money for a local pill mill.

Joss Whedon is set to executive produce a half-hour comedy series currently in development at Freeform, Variety has learned exclusively.

The project is currently titled “Pippa Smith: Grown-Up Detective.” Hailing from creators Siobhan Thompson and Rebecca Drysdale, the series is described as a dark comedy that follows Pippa Smith, a twenty-something who played a former kid sleuth on television, as she deals with relationships, addiction and being too dang old for the detecting game. Each episode, Pippa solves a new case, while unraveling a bigger mystery and attempting to navigate a messy personal life.

I swear I didn't have a summertime romance with Kate McKinnon back in 1983, but when I think of the "SNL" Emmy nominee, a smile creeps across my face like she's an old confidante who made good in this crazy world. Even among "relatable" comedians, McKinnon seems so real, unpretentious, and fun. And smart to boot. Just like Disney, Logo has it’s own vault of “Logo Classics” They come out “but once a generation” and aren’t you lucky because you’re the generation that gets to see what might be the best thing to ever air on our parent network. We’re talking about The Big Gay Sketch Show! We have all six episodes of the first season and will be posting one a day this week. Watch the likes of Kate McKinnon (SNL) and Stephen Guarino (Happy Endings) get their comedy start.

In this episode, “All in the ‘Gay’ Family” wonders what life would be like in the extremely gay household of Archie and Eddie. Plus, the Ladyline women’s hotline sketch gives new meaning to the word “hot”.

The past few years have been a time for rising comediennes: Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Sandra Bullock’s return to comedic excellence, and, of course, Kristen Wiig. Really ever since Bridesmaids, we’ve heard about Wiig starring in one film or another. She had a prime part in Despicable Me 2, will show up in Anchorman: The Legend Continues, and hits Tiff with Hateship Loveship. Her next film will be Welcome To Me, and she’s got one hell of a cast joining her.

Today we’re hearing that Welcome To Me has cast Joan Cusack, James Marsden, Alan Tudyk and Wes Bentley alongside Kristen Wiig. Wiig will play Alice, a woman with borderline personality disorder, who wins the lottery and uses the money to set up a public access show to talk about her life. She begins alienating her friends and family in her pursuit to become a little famous.

The series stars Kate McKinnon from Logo’s The Big Gay Sketch Show as Bethany, one of the founders of Vag, whose ex-girlfriend Jaybird runs a rival feminist magazine, C--t. When your aggressive and bratty ex runs a competing magazine, things cannot and do not go well. The absurd antics of the scatterbrained editorial board and clueless staff only feed the mayhem. (One editor, Fennel, decides that feminine hygiene products are creations of the patriarchy and opts to sit on a bucket during “that time of the month” instead – even at staff meetings.)

Kristen Wiig is currently in talks to reteam with her Anchorman: The Legend Continues co-star Will Ferrell in a new comedy called Welcome To Me. Ferrell is producing the film alongside Adam McKay whose wife Shira Piven (Fully Loaded) is set to direct the comedy. 

The film seems like the perfect gig for Wiig. The story follows a "woman with dissociative personality disorder who wins the lottery and decides to spend her winnings on a cable access talk show about her life." The script for the film comes from former staff writer of the The Big Gay Sketch Show, Eliot Laurence.

Wiig is one of the funniest female comedic actresses working right now, and I hope she ends up doing this one. Thanks to the success of Silver Linings Playbook, I think we're going to start seeing a lot of these mental illness dramedies popping up.

Although Rapace didn't officially commit to the film she did say, "I met Ridley in London a couple of weeks ago. I would love to work with him again and I know that he would like to do another one. It's just like we need to find the right story. I hope we will.
