Jinkx Monsoon and Liam Krug’s “Sketchy Queens” returned for Season 2 this week, further cementing its place in a long line of iconic sketch comedy series.
As a longtime fan of “SNL,” “MADtv,” “Kids in the Hall,” “In Living Color” and “The Big Gay Sketch Show,” Monsoon, a two-time winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” told TheWrap how those shows helped prepare her to be ready for anything as an entertainer — even if she has to improv.
“I never know when these things will come, so I’ve just got stuff ready at any moment,” Jinkx explained of her career. “One time, I had to pull a tap dance out of my ass to prove that I could tap dance, and sure enough I had just enough to prove it. I’ve spent a long time preparing myself for whatever the moment calls for.”

Since its end in 1997, "Married... with Children" has maintained a legacy as one of the strangest and longest-running television shows of its kind. The Fox sitcom was, on its face, a standard multi-camera sitcom about a dysfunctional family and the colorfully zany characters that breezed in and out of their suburban enclosure. At the same time, it bucked contemporary genre conventions, daring to push the boundaries of acceptable behavior for sitcom protagonists while leaning into the surrealist subgenre -- which, relative to the tamer landscape of TV back in the late '80s and '90s, surely must've surprised some audiences.
And yet, as odd and abrasive as the show could be, the series was reliably anchored by a powerhouse cast of comedic actors at the top of their game. This included Ed O'Neill, Katey Sagal, and Christina Applegate, all three of whom have been receptive to revive the series...

The “In Memoriam” segment of the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday paid tribute to a host of small-screen stars who have died in the past year, but users on social media were quick to point out the notable names that did not make the montage.
The poignant segment saw rapper Jelly Roll say a few words before performing his 2024 song “I Am Not Okay” as a montage of late stars was shown inside the Peacock Theater and on television. Among those included in the segment were Donald Sutherland, James Earl Jones, Martin Mull, Richard Lewis, Richard Simmons, Shannen Doherty, Gena Rowlands, Chance Perdomo and Carl Weathers.
There was general confusion online in some quarters due to the omission of Friends star Matthew Perry, who died Oct. 28, 2023 at 54. Perry’s absence was explained by the Television Academy paying a special tribute to the actor at the 74th edition of the Emmys held in January,...

Jonathan Majors first appeared in the MCU as Victor Timely in 2021, and later as Kang the Conqueror in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” in 2023. This movie kicked off Phase 5, starting the Multiverse Saga. However, “Quantumania” didn’t do too well. To make matters worse, right after the movie came out, Majors, who played the new main villain for the upcoming MCU phases, was arrested.
He was accused of hitting someone in the face, causing a cut behind their ear, and grabbing their hand and neck, which supposedly led to a bruised neck and a broken finger. Although Majors’ lawyers said these accusations were false, he was still found guilty and Disney fired him.
Now, there’s a lot of talk about who might replace him, with some saying the character Doom might take over as the main villain, and others suggesting that the “Kang Dynasty” movie might be dropped. The...

Jonathan Majors debuted in the MCU as Victor Timely back in 2021, and then as Kang the Conqueror in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ in 2023 in what was the first movie of Phase 5, also known as the beginning of the Multiverse Saga. ‘Quantumania’ wasn’t exactly successful, adding insult to injury, soon after the release of the blockbuster movie, the actor behind the villain who was supposed to mark the next few phases of the MCU was arrested.
According to the charges, Majors allegedly struck the alleged victim ‘about the face with an open hand, causing substantial pain and a laceration behind her ear.’ He also allegedly grabbed her hand and neck, causing bruising on the neck and a broken finger. And while his lawyers quickly provided evidence that such a thing never took place, the case was far from over, and Majors was eventually found guilty and fired by Disney.

The Fear the Walking Dead season 8 cast sees some major changes to the ensemble, with some actors getting bigger roles and others missing from the lineup entirely. A companion series to The Walking Dead, the spinoff revolves around a band of survivors contending with the undead. Set seven years after the previous season, Fear the Walking Dead season 8 takes place on Padre’s sinister island, where all the characters have been living. Although it started out as a prequel exploring the early days of the zombie apocalypse, Fear the Walking Dead got a soft reboot in season 4 that refocused the spinoff on characters from the flagship series.

Paramount has all but given up on Logo, a once-groundbreaking experiment in commercial media for LGBTQ audiences, insiders told TheWrap, confirming something that’s been obvious to anyone who bothered to tune into the creatively moribund cable channel.
It’s been a slow death, starting with the loss of the channel’s signature show, “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” first to sister channel VH1 in 2017, then this year to MTV. A “federation” of websites has faded away, with the leading NewNowNext property redirected to logotv.com. The Logo brand didn’t make the jump to Paramount+, though a handful of Logo-born shows like the “Drag Race: All Stars” spin-offs now stream there.
The channel’s once-robust push for original programming ceased ages ago and layoffs have left Paramount’s LGBTQ channel gutted, with “just about no full-time employees,” one insider told TheWrap and two other individuals with knowledge confirmed.

“If something’s not representing you, you just have to change it,” queer filmmaker Silas Howard told IndieWire last month. “Because no one else is going to care enough to do it for you.”
That’s exactly what “BearCity” writer/director Doug Langway did when it came to addressing the dearth of movies about his community: Bears. A passionate niche within gay male circles, a bear, for the uninitiated, is an affectionate term for “the bigger, hairier guy,” as Langway put it. With only one feature under his belt from 1996 (“Raising Heroes”), Langway initially set to work on a script that would encompass all the colors of the bear rainbow.
Seven years and three movies later, the “BearCity” trilogy is the biggest gay movie franchise you’ve probably never heard of. It’s also a triumph of a grassroots independent filmmaking model that has all but disappeared.

World premiering this weekend at the Seattle International Film Festival is Max Landis’ directorial debut Me Him Her. The sexual identity comedy is about three millennials trying to figure out love, friendship, sex, and life in present day Hollywood. The film stars Dustin Milligan, Luke Bracey, Emily Meade, Alia Shawkat, Rebecca Drysdale, and Haley Joel Osment. The other day I sat down with Max Landis for an extended video interview. While I already posted his edition of “Save or Kill”, tomorrow I’ll have him talking about making Me Him Her and how he put together the great cast. Until then, we’re happy to premiere the first clip, which is a sequence that takes place at the beginning of the film between Milligan and Bracey. Here’s the Me Him Her clip followed by where you can see the film this weekend, some filmmaker info, and the official synopsis:...

I swear I didn't have a summertime romance with Kate McKinnon back in 1983, but when I think of the "SNL" Emmy nominee, a smile creeps across my face like she's an old confidante who made good in this crazy world. Even among "relatable" comedians, McKinnon seems so real, unpretentious, and fun. And smart to boot. And like someone who'd come to your stupid party with your stupid friends and enjoy all the right people and ignore all the right people. Maybe this is delusion, but it's an important delusion that makes me appreciate more than Kate's considerable skills as an actress, comic, and celebrity impersonator. Let me have this delusion. Let's celebrate her greatness by enjoying some of her best non-"SNL" work. Just today McKinnon released a hilarious video on the Above Average network where she plays a saucy notary public who gets into trouble. If you haven't mined...

The past few years have been a time for rising comediennes: Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Sandra Bullock’s return to comedic excellence, and, of course, Kristen Wiig. Really ever since Bridesmaids, we’ve heard about Wiig starring in one film or another. She had a prime part in Despicable Me 2, will show up in Anchorman: The Legend Continues, and hits Tiff with Hateship Loveship. Her next film will be Welcome To Me, and she’s got one hell of a cast joining her.
Today we’re hearing that Welcome To Me has cast Joan Cusack, James Marsden, Alan Tudyk and Wes Bentley alongside Kristen Wiig. Wiig will play Alice, a woman with borderline personality disorder, who wins the lottery and uses the money to set up a public access show to talk about her life. She begins alienating her friends and family in her pursuit to become a little famous.

Back in 2010, we ran "Vag Magazine," a fabulous web series which follows a group of NYC hipsters who launch a fictional third wave feminist magazine. Our reviewer Grace Chu wrote:
The series stars Kate McKinnon from Logo’s The Big Gay Sketch Show as Bethany, one of the founders of Vag, whose ex-girlfriend Jaybird runs a rival feminist magazine, C--t. When your aggressive and bratty ex runs a competing magazine, things cannot and do not go well. The absurd antics of the scatterbrained editorial board and clueless staff only feed the mayhem. (One editor, Fennel, decides that feminine hygiene products are creations of the patriarchy and opts to sit on a bucket during “that time of the month” instead – even at staff meetings.)

Kristen Wiig is currently in talks to reteam with her Anchorman: The Legend Continues co-star Will Ferrell in a new comedy called Welcome To Me. Ferrell is producing the film alongside Adam McKay whose wife Shira Piven (Fully Loaded) is set to direct the comedy.
The film seems like the perfect gig for Wiig. The story follows a "woman with dissociative personality disorder who wins the lottery and decides to spend her winnings on a cable access talk show about her life." The script for the film comes from former staff writer of the The Big Gay Sketch Show, Eliot Laurence.
Wiig is one of the funniest female comedic actresses working right now, and I hope she ends up doing this one. Thanks to the success of Silver Linings Playbook, I think we're going to start seeing a lot of these mental illness dramedies popping up.

Though Anchorman: The Legend Continues is still in production, star Kristin Wiig is already set to work with writers Will Ferrell and Adam McKay again in Welcome To Me, an independent picture directed by Shira Piven (Fully Loaded) and written by Eliot Laurence (The Big Gay Sketch Show).
The film is about Wiig’s character spending her lottery winnings on a cable access talk show that revolves around her associative personality disorder. Silver Linings Playbook‘s success means that now’s the best time to get a project like this running, given the pairing of mental illness and comedy being as close to ‘in vogue’ as it’ll ever be.
