Samurai film fans, prepare to be... dubious. Hollywood is setting up a new adaptation of the classic '70s Japanese manga series Lone Wolf and Cub, created by Kazuo Koike. The story revolves around a disgraced warrior who is falsely accused of a crime and exiled, forced to wander Japan with his three-year-old son as an assassin for hire. A total of seven (well, technically, six) films based on the manga were produced between 1972 and 1980 starring Tomisaburo Wakayama in the lead role. Now Kamala Films is setting up a remake with the writer of Blade Runner and the director of Fast & Furious. Will this prove to be a match made in heaven? According to Deadline, Kamala Films will be teaming up with 1212 Entertainment to produce the new film. Kamala has just one film under their belt thus far, the Willem Dafoe psychological thriller Anamorph, while 1212 Entertainment is currently working on the Space Invaders movie.

Movie Review: Enter the Void-Gaspar Noé's depiction of life reduced to unadulterated primordial need
Adults Only! One Week Only! Starts Friday, October 8th! Gaspar Noé's Enter the Void tells a story of Oscar (Nathaniel Brown), a small-time drug dealer in Tokyo and his sister Linda (Paz de la Huerta, Choke, Anamorph) who he brings to Japan to an attempt reunite them as a family. Oscar has a penchant for Dmt. Dmt is produced naturally in the body and believed to play a role in mediating the visual effects of natural dreaming as well as near-death experiences. One night, Oscar is caught in a sting operation and shot. As Oscar dies his spirit leaves his body. But refusing to...

Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road, Bug), Willem Dafoe (Daybreakers, Anamorph, American Psycho) and Chloe Sevigny (Zodiac, The Killing Room) have all signed on to star in Werner Herzog's psychological horror tale My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done?, reports Production Weekly. Son is loosely based on the true story of a San Diego man who acts out a Sophocles play in his mind and kills his mother with a sword. The low-budget feature will flash back and forth from the murder scene to the disturbed man's story. A guerrilla-style digital video shoot on Coronado Island is tentatively set for March.

Not exactly a huge amount of flicks being released on disc this week but hey, who would be crazy enough to go up against the biggest movie of all time, The Dark Knight, anyway? Well, a zombie fighting Japanese swim team for one. Yep, Switchblade Sisters' Attack Girls' Swim Team vs. The Undead drops on DVD today and even though it got the thumbs down from quietearth, I'll probably still give it a spin.
Henry Miller's crime thriller Anamorph is also out on DVD today along with Lars Von. Trier's Europa from Criterion. On the boxed set front, we've got a nice I am Legend: Ultimate Collector's Box, Deadwood: The Complete Series and of course Lost: Season 4.
Trailers and links for all after the break.

IFC harbors killer, thieves
NEW YORK -- IFC Films has acquired North American rights to the serial killer thriller Anamorph, starring Willem Dafoe and Scott Speedman, and the heist drama How to Rob a Bank, starring Nick Stahl and Erika Christensen.
Anamorph stars Dafoe and Speedman as detectives tracking a killer who re-creates the perspective-distorting painting technique "anamorphosis" in a bizarre series of murders. Peter Stormare and Clea DuVall also star. Marissa McMahon's Kamala Films produced.
In Andrews Jenkins' Bank, a bored teller (Christensen) and her slacker customer (Stahl) get caught in the middle of a bank heist and are forced to arbitrate between crooks and cops. David Carradine, Leo Fitzpatrick and former Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale round out the cast of the Rick Lashbrook Films feature.
IFC's theatrical/VOD day-and-date First Take program will handle both releases. Bank hits theaters next month, and Anamorph will be released in November.
IFC's Arianna Bocco negotiated the Anamorph deal with Endeavor and the Bank deal with Shaun Redick of the Collective.

Full canvas for 'Anamorph' pic
NEW YORK -- Scott Speedman, Peter Stormare and Clea DuVall have joined Willem Dafoe on Kamala Films' first feature, the psychological thriller Anamorph. Principal photography on the film, which began here three weeks ago, is scheduled to wrap this month. James Rebhorn, Yul Vazquez and Don Harvey also have been cast in the tale of a detective (Dafoe) haunted by a serial-killer case who returns to his job five years later with a rookie partner (Speedman). When he discovers that his new case might have been perpetrated by a killer emulating the previous "Uncle Eddie" murders, the detective's flashbacks begin to get the better of him, leading him to question his earlier conclusions. Stormare will play an art gallery owner, and DuVall will play an ex-junkie and former prostitute befriended by Dafoe's character. The film's title and plot line are derived from the term "anamorphic," used to describe a painting where two perspectives can be seen on one canvas from different viewpoints.
