Solid Comedy

Salvar Davasi also known as the Case of Baggytrousers is a solid Turkish comedy. It suffers all usual things the Turkish cinema has been suffering from such as cinematography etc. However, in Salvar Davasi, we can see excellent piece of acting especially from Mujde Ar(playing Elif) and Sener Sen (playing Agha). Elif goes back to her village after years. It has been a very long time since she left that people in the village don't recognise her at first. She changes a lot after living in the city. Instead of wearing traditional village day life clothes, she is more wearing modern clothes. Elif is in the village for a while to recover from her husband's death and go back to the city. When she joins daily village life, she realises that nothing has changed. Men are still killing of their times in cafe's and women are doing all the work in fields, bringing up the children and trying to fulfil their men's desires on top of that. After taking one of her friends to the hospital, Elif decides to extend her holiday and wants to put a full stop to the things. One of the biggest factor to the things is Agha, who takes advantage of this miserable life style. He is also wants to be with Elif although he was refused years before. And he is one of the reasons Elif left the village with his lover at first place. When all women in the village decide to take action, the war starts not only between men and women but also between Elif and the Agha. Salvar Davasi is a solid film despite its flaws but provides an entertaining 90 minutes. *** out of *****

Amazing Adaptation

A magnificent adaptation of the one-act theatrical play, Lysistrata, written by Aristophanes in 411 BC.

The script written by Basar Sabuncu was transferred to the silver screen by Kartal Tibet.
