Bad Robot, the production company of filmmaker J.J. Abrams, will produce the supernatural western The Pinkerton for Warner Bros. If ghosts and cowboys and creepy old west towns are your kinda thing, this news is probably saloon piano music to your ears. As reported by THR, little else is known about the script, from writer Daniel Casey, although Casey already has an established history with Bad Robot. He penned 10 Cloverfield Lane, the second installment in Bad Robot’s Cloverfield franchise, and his subversive superhero script The Heavy is currently in production, with Abrams reportedly eyeing Overlord director Julius …...

Fast & Furious 9 is getting a new writer. Chris Morgan, who has penned every single one of the movies in the franchise since The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, won't be taking on the next installment of Universal's cash cow. Instead, it will be Daniel Casey, who is a relative newcomer, taking a crack at it. This makes for a big change, as Morgan has been a consistent cog in the machine ever since these movies started becoming megahits at the box office. But he's not leaving the Fast and Furious world entirely.
Chris Morgan is taking over writing duties on Dwayne Johnson's upcoming Fast and Furious spin-off, which reteams him with Jason Statham. David Leitch was recently tapped to direct the movie, which is set to arrive in theaters on August 2, 2019, after recently being bumped back a week by Paramount. It makes sense to have Morgan,...

Daniel Casey has been tapped to write “Fast and Furious 9,” the latest installment of Universal’s franchise, Variety has confirmed.
This marks the first time the franchise has had a new writer in 12 years, as Chris Morgan penned scripts going back to “The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift.”
Morgan is now writing and producing the tentatively titled “Hobbs and Shaw” — the “Fast and Furious” spinoff starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.
“Fast 9” will be directed by Justin Lin, who helmed four of the “Fast” movies. Lin is returning to the franchise after sitting out the seventh and eighth installments. Vin Diesel is set to return as the star in the project that is slotted for a April 2020 release.
Neal Moritz is producing via his Original Film banner, Diesel through his One Race Films, and Lin via his Perfect Storm Entertainment.

J.J. Abrams is getting into the superhero game. The director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the upcoming Star Wars 9 has made plenty of time to produce projects in between making mega-budget franchise blockbusters and he's just lined up a new, intriguing venture. Abrams will produce a superhero thriller called The Heavy, which will be directed by Julius Avery, who recently helmed Overlord for Abrams' Bad Robot company.
The news comes not long after the first footage from Overlord was screened at CinemaCon in Las Vegas last week. The footage wowed those in attendance, giving Bad Robot and Paramount Pictures tremendous confidence in the project, which is described as a WWII zombie thriller. It's also provided Bad Robot and J.J. Abrams with some confidence in director Julius Avery, who is now in talks to direct The Heavy, which Paramount will also be partnering with Bad Robot for. J.J. Abrams is going to be teaming back up with director Julius Avery, who helmed the upcoming supernatural World War II film Overlord, for a new film project.
We don't know much about the movie right now, but what we do know is that it's a "subversive superhero" movie that will be called The Heavy.
The script was written by Daniel Casey and if it's anything like the footage that I saw of Overlord, were in for one hell of a wild and bat-shit crazy superhero movie!

J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot are reuniting with director Julius Avery for a superhero movie titled The Heavy. Abrams and Avery made headlines last month at CinemaCon when they debuted footage from the intriguing (and bizarre-looking) supernatural WWII thriller Overlord, which Avery helmed and Abrams produced. Abrams further made waves by declaring that despite what previous reports would have everyone believe, Overlord is not a secret Cloverfield movie and exists separate from that franchise.

Fast & Furious 9, planned as the penultimate film in the main series, puts the pedal to the metal this May.
The Fast and the Furious franchise remains profitable and shows no signs of pumping the brakes, despite claims of hanging up the monkey wrenches on the mainline series after the 10th installment. Not only did its first spinoff film, the Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham two-hander with a daisy of a title, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, successfully expand its territory of bankability, but plans are in the works for a female-fronted spinoff movie and even an animated Netflix series. Of course, lest we forget, there’s two more films from the main series set to arrive, with our focus here being on this May's penultimate offering, 9.
Indeed, 2017’s The Fate of the Furious, was, according to Vin Diesel, the kickoff for a trilogy of...

It goes without saying that the major motivation of any character in a post-apocalyptic movie is staying alive, so it wasn't so surprising to hear Dominic Monaghan (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) describe his new movie, The Day, as a "survival movie." What was somewhat surprising is the variety and amount of blood — from "dry scab" blood and "bags" of blood to "gore packs," which just sounds nasty — that the cast members apparently got covered in during filming. Click on the video above for an exclusive interview with Monaghan and his co-star, Ashley Bell (The Last Exorcism).
The Day was written by neophyte screenwriter Luke Passmore and directed by Douglas Aarniokoski (Highlander: End Game). The cast includes Shawn Ashmore (Frozen), Michael Eklund (The Divide) and Shannyn Sossamon (The Heavy). It is now playing in select theaters.

The remaining eight contestants on "The Voice" (Mondays at 8 p.m. Et and Tuesdays at 9 p.m. Et on NBC) took the stage during the semifinals and overall, it was an impressive showing.
It's shocking that we're only a week away from the Season 2 finale, when a winner will be crowned. But for now, Christina Aguilera is the one wearing the tiara. This ensemble really looks like she stole it from a "Toddlers and Tiaras" contestant and don't worry -- you'll get a full look at it (twice).
In order to determine who will swipe that headpiece out of Christina's weave make it to the final round, the ever relevant host Carson Daly reminds us that America and the coadges have equal say. The coadges have 100 votes to split among their team members as they sit fit and then America's votes -- via phone, social network, iTunes, etc. -- factor into the other half.

Carson Daly kicked off last night's The Voice by basically asking Cee-Lo, "Isn't it crazy how unbeatable your team is? How do you feel about killing all the other teams and seeing if America notices? Would that just tickle you, you sassy man? Spank your own ass! You're the winner!" Duly noted, Carson, but the elite duo of Jamar Rogers and Juliet Simms had six other singers to spar with last night. Did they conquer just as much as Carson foreshadowed? Or did Christina Aguilera -- dressed like a magician's assistant who picks up extra tips as a JonBenet Ramsey impersonator -- and her team take over? I rank 'em worst to first below.

It’s not easy being a contestant on The Voice. Not only must these fledgling artists show extreme patience at getting upstaged in the midst of their critiques by chants of “I love you Adam!”/”I love you Xtina!” (possibly delivered by Adam’s and Xtina’s assistants, disguised in trench coats and sunglasses) but they also have to endure backstage interviews in the Sprint lounge conducted by a babbling ponytail attached to a stem-cell smoothie. (Sometimes that entity is referred to as a “Christina Milian.”)

The sibling rivalry between Mitchell and Christian heats up and carries the plot of this b-grade action movie.
Mitchell “Boots” Mason is heartbroken over the murder of his wife and daughter and seeks revenge. After getting it, Boots is held on trial for the murder of the man who killed his wife and daughter. The fate of Boots is all up to the decision that his politician brother has to make. Christian decides to send Boots to prison for murder.

Well this is a week of varied goodness to bring home! After last week’s choice of cheeses, we needed some movies to up the value of DVD a bit, and what better way than to start this week’s list off with is the ever appreciated:
The Human Centipede – Directed by Tom Six, this horrific tale sees a mad scientist type experiment on two lost girls who come wondering to his house out in the woods. The idea is disturbing enough being banned from several theatres, but this is a must of any horror fan who likes a bit of the nitty gritty… And for anyone wanting a bit of surreal porn.
Okay, so I know that wasn’t exactly class at it’s best, but this one definitely is:
Se7en – Being released on Blu-ray for the first time, we get to watch the beauty of this murder mystery unfold in high definition.

While The Heavy, starring Vinnie Jones, is absurd, The Manchurian Candidate is still sublime
If I say that Vinnie Jones's performance as a corrupt, sadistic Di with the Metropolitan Police isn't the worst thing in The Heavy, you'll have some idea how stupendously bad this absurd thriller is. Gary Stretch plays the thuggish son of an upper-middle-class family who's blackmailed into assassinating his brother, a Tory MP, as he announces his candidacy for the party leadership from a stage in Whitehall.
Let me say this before I burst a blood vessel: if you feel the urge to see a political assassination movie, go to a venue where they're reviving the 1962 masterwork The Manchurian Candidate, one of the best, most influential political thrillers in movie history.

(Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, 2006, Us) Christian Cook, Jack Doolan, Tom Hughes, Felicity Jones. 95 mins
Those averse to Ricky Gervais's "white-man overbite" will see surprisingly little of it in his second co-directed movie. Set in suburban 70s Reading, this rites-of-passage drama stars newcomers Cook, Doolan and Hughes as three mates growing apart on the threshold of adulthood. The ending may be formulaic, but Gervais and Merchant carve a neat middle path between comedy and pathos to get there.
The Ghost (15)
(Roman Polanski, 2010, Fr/Ger/UK) Pierce Brosnan, Ewan McGregor. 128 mins
While he remains in chokey, Polanki's latest release is an old-school political thriller, starring Brosnan as a slick ex-pm with guilty secrets and McGregor as the hack hired to launder them.
Beeswax (Nc)
(Andrew Bujalski, 2009, Us) Tilly Hatcher, Maggie Hatcher. 100 mins
Mundane mumblecore about the travails of twins.
The Heavy (18)
(Marcus Warren, 2010, UK) Gary Stretch, Vinnie Jones. 102 mins...
(Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, 2006, Us) Christian Cook, Jack Doolan, Tom Hughes, Felicity Jones. 95 mins

Lee Ryan was mortified to stall his sports car just before driving it up the red carpet last night (15.04.10). The Blue singer arrived at the premiere of British gangster movie 'The Heavy' - in which he makes his acting debut - at London's Leicester Square in an expensive Tvr car, only to confess he "panicked" behind the wheel of the vehicle. He told Bang Showbiz: "I got given the car to drive up because there's an amazing Tvr in the film... I was meant to get in the car and be driven but I was like, 'I wanna drive it.' But I've got a confession to make - up the road I stalled it. "It was in the middle...

British singer Lee Ryan was escorted out of an Edinburgh, Scotland nightclub in the early hours of Wednesday morning, April 14 following an argument with a promoter who allegedly cut his appearance fee because he was late. The former Blue star agreed a payment of $525 to meet fans at the city's Lulu nightspot to promote his role in new U.K. gangster film, "The Heavy".
But after turning up for the gig an hour late, events promoter Laithy B Pal reportedly sliced the payment in half, handing the star $270 for his work. But Ryan was left fuming and was allegedly removed from the club by security guards after the disagreement turned nasty, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper.
A source tells the publication, "Ryan expected his full fee and lost it when he didn't get it. He yelled, 'I'm not f**king green (naive), I've been in this game for 10 years.

Boots Mason (Gary Stretch) is the heavy, an ex-con turned collector for a gangster. Or maybe it’s Anawalt (Stephen Rea) the gangster who is the heavy, since he runs Mason’s life. Then again, maybe it’s the vicious cop Dunn (Vinnie Jones) who is the film’s heavy, since the nasty bugger isn’t against punching people in the face, including women if it serves his purposes. Or maybe it’s just the movie itself that’s heavy. Or perhaps, none of the above? Eh, who cares. Let’s get to the review already, shall we? Marcus Warren’s “The Heavy” qualifies as a crime drama, but it will never be mistaken for an action movie. Oh sure, the DVD cover has leading man Gary Stretch holding an awesome looking machinegun, but truth be told he only gets to fire that thing once and it’s at the very end of the movie.

FilmShaft have been sent an exclusive clip from the Marcus Warren-directed Brit Gangster flick, The Heavy. Starring Gary Stretch, Vinnie Jones, Stephen Rea, Christopher Lee, Lee Ryan, Adrian Paul and Sadie Frost, The Heavy is fighting it’s way into UK theatres for a limited release on April 16th.
The clip features leading man and British light-middleweight boxing champion, Gary Stretch, drowning his sorrows in a traditional British boozer. I have to say I wish my local was a nice as this one – I might frequent it more often! Anyway, Pub tastes aside, you can check out our exclusive clip below:
Sibling rivalry turned into betrayal between two brothers. One a prime candidate for Prime Minister, the other a henchman for a successful, yet shady businessman. Presented with an opportunity to take revenge against his brother, our anti-hero must come to terms with the truth in a world where...

Since I have a soft spot for British gangster flicks, Vinnie Jones, and Shannyn Sossamon, I was quite pleased to discover the latest trailer for writer/director Marcus Warren’s 2010 crime epic “The Heavy”, which comes courtesy of Film Shaft. The picture boasts one hell of a cast — Christopher Lee, Adrian Paul, Sadie Frost, and Stephen Rea are in attendance, just to name a few — and features former boxer turned actor Gary Stretch (“Dead Man’s Shoes”) as an assassin who is about to embark on the proverbial “last job”. The film will receive a limited theatrical release in the UK on April 16th. However, if you’re a resident of New Zealand, the picture is scheduled to hit DVD sometime next month. Is it coming to North America anytime soon? Don’t hold your breath. Instead, check out the embedded trailer. From what I understand, it’s less likely to give you brain damage.

There really aren’t enough British gangster movies around you know, I miss the late nineties/early noughties, when we were treated to the likes of “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and “Snatch“, or even the early nineties when we were given “The Krays“. The long and short of it is, the only one’s who could ever out-do the UK when it came to Gangster Films was the Us – and they cheated because they had the American-Italian mafia.
So the arrival of a fresh, new British gangster flick, The Heavy has got my attention. Starring a stellar Brit cast including Gary Stretch, Vinnie Jones, Stephen Rea, Christopher Lee, Lee Ryan, Adrian Paul and Sadie Frost, it looks like it’s business as usual for the single-syllable, hard as nails British gangster!

HeyUGuys has been given this awesome exclusive clip from new British independent film movie called The Heavy which stars Vinnie Jones, Gary Stretch, Lee Ryan, Christopher Lee & Shannyn Sossamon. It’s written and directed by Marcus Warren and from the trailer (also below), I think we could be in for a treat.
The movie is set in London and in this clip which is called ‘Let’s Take It Up A Notch’ we get to see Steve Walsh (Gary Stretch’s stunt double) performing one of the stunts in this instance, rolling over a car. The clip gives us an insight into what goes into prepping the stunt followed by seeing it in the final movie.
The first clip for the movie has been released on the official FaceBook Fan page which you can see here. The Heavy is released 16th April. We’ll have some tickets for the premiere...
