Patti LuPone is facing backlash from the Broadway community for recent comments she made in a new profile.

The 76-year-old three-time Tony-winning actress “is done with Broadway,” according to her new profile in The New Yorker, and it doesn’t seem like she cares about making enemies.

Patti previously received backlash in November 2024 when Tony-winning actress Kecia Lewis, who stars in the musical Hell’s Kitchen, released a public letter to the actress about a situation on Broadway.

While Patti was acting in the play The Roommate in the theatre next door to Hell’s Kitchen, she reached out to the other show’s management and asked them to change their sound cues because she felt they were “too loud.” Kecia called out Patti‘s actions as “bullying” and “racially microaggessive.”

In her New Yorker profile, Patti talked about the situation.

Watching It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, it's a little funny to think that in real life, Rob McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson are married. No matter how hard we try, we'll associate the actors with their characters on some level. And Mac and Dee definitely don't get along. I mean, all the guys gang up on her. Neely rose to prominence during the Covid lockdowns with her viral reenactments of love duets from classic musicals. Singing both the male and female parts, her lip-syncs caught the attention of Lin-Manuel Miranda and Andrew Lloyd Webber and were named by The New York Times and The Washington Post as among The Best Theater of 2020.

Neely most recently completed production on 20th Century Studios’ untitled Bumble Movie opposite Lily James, Myha’la, Jackson White, and Dan Stevens, which is slated to premiere on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ in all other territories in 2025. It’s hard to imagine an occasion that would make Sara Bareilles nervous, considering that the Grammy Award winner is a veteran of stages far and wide. But Friday night’s Celebrating Sundance Institute fundraiser at Park City’s Grand Hyatt Deer Valley proved to be such an event.

Upon taking her place in the ballroom lights to close out the starry event, Bareilles admitted that it was the “fancy room” that sent her nerves into overdrive. The fundraiser saw a long list of honorees and presenters take the stage including A Complete Unknown filmmaker James Mangold, Wicked star Cynthia Erivo, Sundance Institute’s Michelle Satter, Glenn Close, Joel Edgerton, Marielle Heller, R.J. Cutler and Tessa Thompson. Guests making the rounds included Jon Hamm, Boots Riley, Kimberly Peirce, Roger Ross Williams and more.

James Mangold misses the era when movies weren’t embarrassed to make audiences feel something. The director of the Bob Dylan musical biopic “A Complete Unknown” and comic book adaptation “Logan” believes there’s a growing hostility to films that wear “their hearts on their sleeve.”

“Most of my generation, my peers, have been generally fascinated by irony or detachment. A filmed version of hit musical Six is heading to UK cinemas in April, with the original West End cast of the show involved.

The gigantic success of the first Wicked film is inevitably sending Hollywood studios on a trawl through the listings for West End and Broadway musicals, arguably for the first time since the release of Cats in 2019. And one thing we can comfortably expect a lot more of is filmed versions of musicals being beamed to our screens.

The musical of Waitress, for instance, has already been shot on Broadway, and is going to the Max streaming service in the US this February. And in UK cinemas? The phenomenon that is Six is getting a cinema outing.

A version of the show has been shot that brings together the original West End cast of the production, a show that’s as much a concert as it is a musical.

The Broadway adaptation of a beloved Nathan Fillion movie is coming to streaming next month. Fillion is best known for his breakout role as the roguish Captain Malcolm Reynolds in the cult-favorite sci-fi series Firefly. From his long-running turn as Richard Castle in the beloved crime dramedy Castle to his award-winning turn in the soap opera One Life to Live, Fillion has been a charismatic and engaging presence on television for 20-some years. However, his career spans television and film, including even voice work for animated series and video games (Halo 3), solidifying his status as a pop culture mainstay.

Broadway musicals have long formed the basis for successful movie adaptations, with the latest, Jon M. Chu's Wicked, becoming a cultural phenomenon. However, when a musical hits the big screen, it is often a traditional movie; it is rarer for an actual Broadway production to be filmed in its entirety and distributed to wider audiences.

Exclusive: Actor Nik Dodani has signed with Paradigm for representation.

Best known for his role as Zahid in the Netflix comedy Atypical, Dodani will next be seen toplining Warner Bros’ horror comedy The Parenting opposite Lisa Kudrow, Brian Cox, and Edie Falco, which will release on Max.

From the free, ad-supported streamer and studio The Network, the Gilded Age-set series also stars previously announced cast members Mandy Patinkin, Janet McTeer, Danny Huston, Patti LuPone, Hank Azaria, Zachary Quinto and Clark Gregg.

The seven-episode series, which will debut in March 2025, follows “an ensemble of the era’s celebrities including Thomas Edison, Edgar Degas and Evelyn Nesbit” as they meet at the home of “an eccentric and failing tycoon,” per the logline. By the end of the night, the mogul is found dead, spurring a historical fiction-themed murder mystery.

McPhee will play early-20th-century vaudeville performer Nora Bayes. Anderson will play Evelyn Nesbit, the woman at the center of the infamous Crime of the Century, while Hennessy will play her mother. Mulvoy Ten will play Lilith, an orphaned dancer from France.

Creel’s death from a rare and aggressive cancer at age 48 on September 30 has prompted a massive and continuing outpouring on social media of love and heartbreak from the Broadway community. The death of the immensely popular musical theater actor caught many colleagues and fans by surprise, and has left the industry reeling.

Within hours of the League’s announcement, distraught fans weighed in on social media demanding a full, rather than partial, dimming of lights. A Change.org petition started by Time Out New York theater critic Adam Feldman was gaining momentum with thousands of signees just a few hours after its posting.

Ken Page, the accomplished Broadway actor and voice of Oogie Boogie in Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, has died at the age of 70.

News of Page’s passing was first reported by several of his close friends, including former Late Show director Dorian Hannaway and actress Shari Belafonte, and was subsequently confirmed by BroadwayWorld. According to Hannaway, Page “passed quietly and peacefully at his home.”

In Burton’s classic The Nightmare Before Christmas, Page voiced The Oogie Boogie Man, the film’s main antagonist. Page later reprised the character in several live-to-film performances of the movie staged by composer Danny Elfman.
