How ‘The Good Place’ could finally receive a heavenly SAG Awards reception in 2021
Image
For four seasons, “The Good Place” was praised to the high heavens for its ensemble cast of Ted Danson, Kristen Bell, William Jackson Harper, D’Arcy Carden, Jameela Jamil and Manny Jacinto. Despite critical acclaim and Emmy nominations for Danson, Harper and Carden, though, the series has not registered at all with the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The upcoming SAG Awards will be the final opportunity for voters to acknowledge “The Good Place” cast, and if they choose to ignore the show yet again, this might just be the Bad Place after all.

Unfortunately, there isn’t much precedent for a comedy series earning its maiden SAG Award nomination for its final season. As we typically see with the Emmys, shows often start out strong with awards love in their first few seasons before petering out in subsequent years. Yet there are so many openings in the comedy ensemble lineup this year,...

SAG Awards 2018 TV Snubs and Surprises: ‘The Deuce’ and ‘Fargo’ Come Up Empty, ‘Glow’ and ‘Ozark’ Shine
Jackie Tohn, Alison Brie, Sydelle Noel, Kia Stevens, Betty Gilpin, Kate Nash, Britney Young, and Gayle Rankin in GLOW (2017)
Niecy Nash and Olivia Munn unveiled the 2018 SAG Awards nominations with casual bursts of joy and humor Wednesday morning, and the list of TV nominations seems to reflect their devil-may-care attitude. There were plenty of sweet surprises and thus plenty of stunning snubs.

From series that performed beyond expectations — like “Glow” and “Ozark” — to shows that somehow didn’t make the cut — like “The Deuce” and “Fargo” — the TV nods require a bit of breaking down to make sense of it all.

Below, we’ve compiled a list of shows and performers that had their expectations dashed, and others who got the one good surprise phone call so early in the morning. These are the snubs and surprises of 2018:

‘Gotham’ Midseason Finale Recap: “Queen Takes Knight” – The Sun Never Shines Here
Those out there well-versed in the rules of chess (not me) or who have simply taken hallucinogens and watched the 2005 Ted Danson-starring chess-drama Knights of the South Bronx (me, twice) know that the tile of Gotham’s Fall Finale—”Queen Takes Knight”—is perfect for several reasons. For one thing, newly-crowned Queen of Gotham, Sofia Falcone, takes the city’s resident knight, Jim Gordon, something fierce; by episode’s end, the crime daughter turned crime boss certainly has the Gcpd captain’s brass, justice-loving testicles in a vice. For another, there isn’t a …...
