When F. Scott Fitzgerald famously wrote "There are no second acts in American lives", he would have missed the boat when it comes to actor Robert Davi. He's been a familiar face on the big screen and TV for decades and is known as one of the most memorable James Bond villains. Davi was generally regarded as a reliable and talented character actor. When I made his acquaintance some years ago, we instantly bonded. He is a regular guy with a New York attitude, no ego and a mutual love of exchanging ball-busting jokes with any other guy in his orbit. We share a love of good cigars and stories of old Hollywood but the difference, of course, is that Davi's stories are based on personal experience. His first major role came about when Frank Sinatra personally chose him as a co-star, despite his lack of experience.

Katherine Randolph uses her charms to wangle out of a sticky situation in 1 in the Gun.
Hidden agendas, dangerous seductions and double- and triple-crosses are the order of the day in 1 in the Gun, a film noir-styled crime thriller from writer/director Rolfe Kanefsky (Nightmare Man).
The movie begins with passions igniting between Katrina (Katherine Randolph, Jarhead), the beautiful wife of a wealthy businessman, and Mickey (Steven Man, Edge of Nowhere), a homeless, struggling artist who has been hired to paint their home. Needless to say, someone’s gonna get hurt…
This one reads like the kind of straight-to-dvd movie that would have trickled out to video stores at the end of the 1990s, particularly with its genre-friendly cast, which includes Robert Davi (The Dukes), James Russo (Public Enemies) and Steven Bauer (Scarface).
That said, 1 in the Gun received a very small release...

Robert Davi is a great actor and one of the classiest guys I know in Hollywood. If you don't remember him from Die Hard or The Goonies you'll definitely remember him from License To Kill, in which he played one of the most popular villains of the James Bond series. Recently Robert also made the jump to directing, helming his first feature film, The Dukes, which has won nine international awards and was released on DVD a couple of weeks back. Rolling Stone called it "a gem." It's a funny movie that gives new meaning to the term "fools gold." So when I asked him to be in my next movie, Doonby, I was pleased that he agreed to do it. The only catch: he was smack in the middle of his new project and we weren't sure he'd be able...

When Sully suddenly “goes native,” he locks horns with the company CEO (Giovanni Ribisi) and his gung-ho commanding officer (Stephen Lang, in a wonderful, scenery-chewing turn from a long-underrated actor). The Dukes are washed up. Once the biggest group of the 60s, the doo-wop vets are now relegated to a circuit dominated by infrequent bouts of nostalgia-driven TV commercials. Fellow crooners and long-time friends Danny (Robert Davi, who also directs, produces and is a co-writer) and George (a comfortable Chazz Palminteri) talk the talk on a daily basis, putting their heads together about how to make ends meet, not only for themselves but the rest of the group, including former-Duke-now-diabetic Armond (Frank D'Amico) and Murphy (Elya Baskin), a friend of the group who always seems to be on the verge of nervous breakdown. When Danny happens to overhear a vital bit of information while accompanying George to the dentist, the Dukes decided that the only way to meet their financial needs is to crack a safe – but they can’t do it alone…

John Schneider (TV's "The Dukes of Hazzard," "Smallville") has signed on for the lead role in the indie fantasy/drama "Doonby" according to Reuters.
Described as "It's a Wonderful Life" meets "Crazy Heart", British filmmaker Peter Mackenzie penned and will direct the story of a mysterious, happy-go-lucky drifter who moves into a small Texas town where he becomes a singing bartender.
The drifter soon becomes the envy of the town as he is strangely immune to misfortune that's sweeping the rest of the townsfolk, and yet he always seems to be in the right place at the right time.
Robert Davi co-stars as the town sheriff. Filming will take place at the Spiderwood Studios near Austin, Texas.

We feel that there is no cooler lot in life than to be “That Guy!” - one of the great character actors who seem to appear in every stinkin’ movie you’ve ever seen. We had the good fortune to sit down with a well known “That Guy!” recently, Mr. Robert Davi. You may remember him from such films as Licence to Kill, Die Hard, The Goonies and six hundred episodes of cop TV. In this video we shmooze with him about the independent film he directs and stars in, The Dukes. And in this video, Mr. Davi waxes nostalgic about The Goonies. Will he allow me to play the part of Chunk?...

Though Robert Davi is identified with mega-bad guys in such flicks as The Goonies, Die Hard, and Licence to Kill, he has also played an array of characters in more than 60 movies and TV programs. In part, Davi blames the press for perpetrating the image of him as archetypical villain, "instead of calling me an actor's actor," he says. "No one looks at your body of work." What makes it so much fun to play Danny, a former doo-wop singer down on his luck, in Davi's latest project, The Dukes, "is that he's a regular guy," emphasizes the Queens-born actor. "Also, I get the chance to play a singer. I interjected singing in Goonies, but here I'm playing a singer." A trained opera singer, Davi pauses to point out, "And I have a chance to be raw. A friend who saw the movie says this is the most he's ever seen of Robert Davi onscreen.

A crowd-pleaser for the Aarp set, Robert Davi's writing and directing debut The Dukes casts an affectionate eye on a little-explored milieu that's simultaneously mundane and rife with faded glamour. Davi and Chazz Palminteri play members of the eponymous doo-wop group, retro mirth-makers whose glory days have faded into distant memory. The two now toil in a restaurant for their brassy Italian stereotype of an aunt (Miriam Margolyes) and pine for better days and a solution to their seemingly permanent cash-flow crises. The harmonizers turn small-time crooks when they decide to steal a shipment of gold from dentists, with some help from good buddies Elya Baskin, a laid-off airline mechanic; corpulent stand-up comedian Frank D'Amico; and safecracker Bruce Weitz. An underutilized Peter Bogdanovich co-stars as the group's sad-eyed manager, a Willy Loman type who struggles even to land the group degrading gigs in ridiculous costumes. Considering the film's...

by indieWIRE (November 11, 2008) Robert Davi's "The Dukes" stars Davi and Chazz Palminteri as a Doo Wop group struggling for survival. Their manager (Peter Bogdanovich) is trying to get them work but things aren't working out, leading them to attempt to pull of a heist. The film screened at last year's Rome International Film Festival and has since won the Coup de Coeur at the Alpe d'Huez International Comedy Film Festival. The actor: Robert Davi, a veteran character actor best known for playing bad guys, heavies, and dirtbags in movies like 1985's The Goonies, 1995's Showgirls, and the 1989 James Bond film Licence To Kill. He's also played his share of lawmen in movies like Die Hard and the '90s television show The Profiler. Davi makes the transition from actor to writer-producer-director with The Dukes, a genial comedy/drama/heist film that again casts him as a small-time criminal, though this time, he's also the hero. Davi is also an outspoken conservative who recently appeared in David Zucker's An American Carol and a commercial for Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman, alongside fellow Republican entertainers Stephen Baldwin, John Ratzenberger, Victoria Jackson, and Pat Boone. The Dukes (2008)—"Danny" Robert Davi: Well, people that know me say that's probably the closest role to who I am. Danny is an absolute character,...

Davi, loved for his roles on many a film and TV offering including “The Goonies,” “Predator 2” and “Stargate Atlantis,” writes this work alongside James Andronica (“The November Men”). The story is easy to follow, focusing on a former doo wop band known as “The Dukes” consisting of George Zucco (Chazz Palminteri ) and Danny Pasquale (Robert Davi). They may have had the crowds roaring at The Brooklyn Paramount as the number one group in America but now in their ripe age, are shadows of their former selves.
