Not Recommended.

This movie was absolutely awful - bad acting combined with way too many showy camera shots, and a storyline that was hard to follow and made very little sense. I only watched through to the end with hope for something good, but was disappointed when the film came up with nothing redeeming to end the movie with. There was either overacting or underacting, and nothing was consistent. And the lines that were trying to be funny just didn't belong. The opening shots made the movie appear to be interested, but it was only a letdown from then on. I do not recommend this movie unless you are a film student looking for what not to do when making movies. This looked like the work of an overzealous film student.

This DVD makes a Great Drink Coaster ! Do Not Waste Your Time Or Money With This Movie

If you bought/rented this movie, then I have some swamp land to sell you. This movie was a horrible mix of every terrible B-movie made in the last 10 years and the Blair Witch Project.

After watching a trailer, I decided that this movie might be funny horror in the tradition of Evil Dead or Army of Darkness.... how wrong I was.

This movie has SERIOUS holes in the plots. After the first 10 minutes, this movie becomes very difficult to continue watching because of the serious plot flaws. The Anti-hero is basically a bum that lives in a tin shack, yet has a fur coat (wtf!). It makes no sense what-so- ever. Then the Anti-hero meets the other hero character (they don't know each other) Then the next scene they are running around like childhood friends. That is just the beginning of the long trail of inconstancies that will make you want to scratch your eyes out.

I would recommend this movie for film Teachers to use as a tool to show what you don't want to do in a movie.

Desperate Souls is a great example of these sub-par home-made horror movies that the studios buy for dirt cheap, then they like to roll them out around Halloween. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY WITH THIS MOVIE! ! ! ! !

I predict the only people watching this movie are the folks that starred in it.

If IMDb would let me rate it a (-) negative number I would.

A poor Evil Dead rip off

I had heard about this movie (Desperate Souls) from watching a trailer for it on my uncut DVD of Saw. In all honesty, the trailer is by far the best thing about this wretched piece of crap. Now I can try to respect the story, it did sound rather interesting (if not unimaginative), and sounded like it would be a decent Evil Dead type of movie. However about five minutes into the movie it quit being okay, and it turned into a unbearable crapfest. This movie takes the words "poor lighting," and "drab scenery" to a whole new level. The directors also seem to be obsessed with heavy metal music. Most if not all of the lame soundtrack is loud unintelligible heavy metal butt rock. There is a story in this movie, but after five minutes of bad lighting, terrible acting, you'll kind of just give up on it. It is obvious that the writers didn't really care enough to put in a coherent storyline. Or you know, people who know how to act, and I suppose actually being able to see things in a movie is too much to ask for. Does that sound so unreasonable? Apparentaly so, in only one or two scenes are things really noticeable, the rest of it are damn near impossible to see. And in one scene there sounds like a cool battle is going on, but you can't see anything. What the hell?! And I must say they really went all out with the scenery (if you can't sense the sarcasm you need to be smacked). Further to the point this movie had very little to do with the trailer, and the trailer was the best part of this debacle of the film. Bad lighting, terrible acting, drab scenery, things I construed as homo eroticism (a man calling another man buttercup?), bland DVD setup, and no special features on said DVD. Avoid this movie like the plague, if your wanting to watch a movie like this, avoid this and watch one of the Evil Dead movies.

Worst Movie Since.. Oh wait, this IS the worst movie!

I don't remember hearing about this movie going to theaters. So when I chanced upon it in the New Release section of blockbuster and read the back "An ancient druid book of unspeakable power has survived for centuries, protected by the dark shadows of the natural world. etc.." I thought this movie would be good no doubt about it. Well. the premise is good. The actual movie however is horrid. The actors (if you can call them that) are pretty much on par with Napolean Dynamite (not in a funny way, in an bad emotionless way). You will find yourself thinking "Is he scared, or is he just cold". Aside from the acting, or lack thereof, the movie appears to have been filmed with a home video recorder. Even then, it would make you wonder if you yourself could have created a better movie with that recorder you've got stored in the garage. I believe the movie could have had promise had it been done by a major production company. Overall, this movie receives a 1.

Rather Funny

Now mind you, I love horror movies. The adrenaline rush from being scared is a high for me, but I also love horrible horror movies, and this one, had me laughing the entire night. When I read the back I knew it had to either be very good, or very bad and the fact that the actors were trying to be serious the entire time, had reminded me quite a bit, of the first Evil Dead. Once I began to watch it, I thought, the idea of the movie and the plot really was an alright idea, but the director just didn't have enough sense to know it wasn't going to work. Though this movie isn't scary at all, at least your entertained one way or another.

laughable

this is one truly awful--i hesitate to use the word--movie.it's very low budget, which isn't always a bad thing.the real problem with this movie is the abysmal acting, which overshadows everything.the story is stupid also.i have seen better high school plays,i kid you not.i didn't make it any where near the end of this movie.it just got to the point where i couldn't take it anymore.i felt sure my head would explode if i watched another microsecond.just because you have a camera and some friends to appear in in front of said camera, doesn't mean you are making a movie.i don't know what this was,but movie doesn't describe it.this is just my opinion, and some people may have fun with how awful it is,but i thought it was beyond that point.this turkey gets a very well deserved 0/10

Bad...Bad....Bad

Considering that my wife and I have a 15 month old daughter...we don't get to spend too much time watching movies, so in this case I guess it was a good thing we picked this movie....we turned it off 15 minutes into it. The cover of the movie and first 3-5 minutes had me thinking this could turn into an alright B movie, boy was I wrong. The actors (if you can call them that) who were in this should have been in an over the top drama class not a "horror flick" and the dialog...wow, that was by far the worst I think I have ever watched. By the way...it doesn't take a lot of money to write well. Good thing Blockbuster sent us a free pass or else I would have requested my money back!

the creators

Hey all, thanks for checking out our flick. We started filming it when we were 19. I think the "story" of the filming process of the movie should be brought to attention. We never worked a camera or never took a film class. It does show throughout the film, but remember to take this film lightly, it is what it is. It's a "no budget" not a "low budget" cheesy horror flick. We wanted to make something that you could sit down, grab some beers and drink with your friends while making fun of it. If you have watched this movie seriously, you got some issues. It was made to be cheesy and bad, for pure entertainment purposes. Next month I will post a list of funny things that happen in it. For example, cameras being in the shot and snow, (yes, snow). Cheers!

thrilling!!!!

Desperate Souls targets those who love a good horror flick. The story line will grab hold of the viewers attention, as well as provide the movie watcher with a sense of excitement!!! It is obvious that the crew of Desperate Souls put a great amount of effort and time into perfecting this movie. As well the actors/ess performed their roles exceedingly past any sort of expectation. The soundtrack to Desperate Souls provided the movie with backbone of metal/rock music performed by numerous indie bands in the local Toronto area. So if you are looking for a great movie to get you in the mood for Halloween rent Desperate Souls!!!

Good Movie -Very Entertaining

The title "DESPERATE SOULS",is what drew me to watch this movie.I had some difficulty following the story line but the movie flowed well and kept my interest going right till the end.Guess that could be a bonus. If you understand the plot too well it could make for a boring movie. This movie is anything but boring. With the dry humor to the fight scenes, it was GOOD! I thought the filming, the direction, the angle shots were way above average for a film with a low budget. These guys knew what they were doing and did achieve it. If this movie had top name actors it could have made it to the big screen. Very professional and high end quality. I scored this movie on the high end because the overall product is better than some movies i've scene in this genre....and yes, 100% better than the Blair Witch in my opinion.I liked it!

it's chock full of goodness!

wow. this is quite possibly one of the worst movies ever made... and that's what you've gotta love about it! it's definitely one of the funniest movies i have ever seen. i didn't go more than 2 minutes without cracking up through the entire thing. i was seriously crying from laughing so hard. trust me, there are more memorable quotes in this movie than there were in napoleon dynamite. if you want to have a good time and watch a movie that is so bad you can't stop watching it, rent this one. it's a winner.

it leaves you with one question... what the hell is with the manbag and vest?

It's chalk full of AWESOME!!

And you know what? It IS chalk full of goodness! Hats off to the creators of this flick for entering a line into the Hall of Fame of awesome movie quotes. I was told to watch this with my mind shut off and to just sit back and simply enjoy it for what it is. What's not to like?? A freaking killer soundtrack, some great action with shovel-related deaths (sweeeeeet!), and some hot-ass talent on-screen (see you in my dreams Barrett). I don't get why people are saying the plot was confusing. What's to confuse? Shovel-wielding maniac, meet demons, FIGHT! Sure, it's got it's flaws, but seriously what movie out there doesn't, indie or blockbuster? I can't wait to see what these guys come out with in the future. If this is something they set out to have fun with, then imagine what their next project will be like when they put their all into it. I think then a lot of criticizers of Desperate Souls will see the light.

Go pick it up, grab a few friends and some drinks and enjoy it!

really

This movie was created by two young lads who are HUGE fans of cheesy horror films, who had the balls and the will to pursue their dream of making such a movie. With no money, a few credit cards, and the help of friends, they managed to put it all together. And it was picked up and distributed all around north America. So, for all of the people who had nothing but bad things to say about it, rent it again, and watch it in this light. (and maybe, get off your couch and try to create something.) To those who liked it, good for you.

if anybody watched this movie, and liked either the score or the song at the start of the black screened credit roll, then please check out that artist's (colin harringtons) band page on myspace and listen to his new work.

Well done.

OK so there was some shotty acting points. and some not so great camera work sometimes, but overall I LOVED the movie! Given the right budget and better equipment I think the exact same people could have done something even more AMAZING with it. you can over analyze ANY movie and say they could have acted better, the directing could be better, in every movie made But the story line in this one was awesome. I've seen more high budget films that can't even think of a NEW plot line, that rake in MILLIONS that don't even COMPARE to the genius behind this movie. I LOVED IT!!! I only wish that more people could find something half as good to make a movie out of, I'd probably go see more of them then.
