Majesco restarts its game
Video game publisher Majesco invested heavily in a handful of current-generation games, including the Hollywood-licensed Aeon Flux, only to have those games crash and burn at retail. As a result, the publisher has scrapped other tentpoles that were in the pipeline, laid off about 20% of its staff and announced a complete change in strategy. The Edison, N.J.-based company said it will restructure its business to focus solely on value-priced games and portable games. Among the canceled projects are a video game sequel to Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver and Demonik, a video game written by Clive Barker that was to serve as a prequel to a potential film. A source close to the situation said that the Barker intellectual property might be picked up by a different company.
