With the Masked Singer finale upon us at last, we’re just hours away from (officially) confirming the identities of Season 12’s remaining contestants, Wasp and the Buffalos — though we’re pretty sure we already know which mystery celebrities are inhabiting those costumes.
Putting the Buffalos aside for a moment, TVLine has an exclusive sneak peek of tonight’s finale (Fox, 8/7c) in which the judges place their final bets for Wasp. Jenny McCarthy seems pretty sold on Jason Derulo, Robin Thicke is leaning towards Anthony Ramos and Ken Jeong would stake his doctorate degree on Usher.

Quick Links Everything Coming To Paramount+ In October The Best Movies And Shows Coming To Paramount+ This Month
Paramount+ has plenty of new TV shows and movies coming in October 2024, including a lot of horror content for the month of Halloween. Paramount+ launched in March 2021 as a rebranding of the CBS All Access streaming platform, with the goal of expanding its offerings and reach. Thanks to the re-merger between CBS and Viacom in 2019, Paramount+ also has access to Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and MTV libraries. That usually means that library content is more exciting for subscribers than new content because they can binge existing series.
Unlike some of its competitors, Paramount+ has not put an emphasis on original movie programming except in the case of childrens films. However, the streaming service does have a popular lineup of exclusive original series, including the multiple-timeline and decade-spanning Yellowstone franchise. In September 2024, some of...

Production is currently taking place in Vancouver, Canada, for the highly anticipated Yellowjackets season 3, and we can't wait to see the horror series return next year! We've just learned some good news about the upcoming season and it involves a new cast addition.
Academy Award-winning actress Hilary Swank has reportedly joined the cast of Yellowjackets for its third season. This news comes only a month after learning that Joel McHale (Animal Control) joined the cast. Unfortunately, like McHale's casting, it's unknown who Swank will be playing in the series. All that was revealed about her casting is that she'll be taking on a recurring guest star role. However, Deadline reports that there's a possibility she could be upped to series regular if there is to be a fourth season.
I don't know about you, but I'm a fan of Swank and would love to see more of her in Yellowjackets.

Though they’ve worked together only once (the animated “Happy Feet”), Australian director George Miller and recent AFI Life Achievement Award winner Nicole Kidman share a distinction this week. Both of their most recent films lead on respective home viewing charts.
For Warner Bros. and Miller, the #1 status for the newly released “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is positive news after its very disappointing theatrical results. But even more than a normal high-return PVOD release, it is available for a $24.99 digital purchase price rather than the standard initial $19.99 rental.
Kidman has provided an eclectic filmography that spans from Jane Campion and Lars von Trier to “Batman Forever” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” Her latest, rom-com “A Family Affair” where she credibly plays at the age of 57 the love interest for Zac Efron, testifies to a star quality along with enduring talent. Erin Gruwell's innovative teaching methods transformed the lives of her at-risk students through journal projects and real-life connections. The personal sacrifices made by Erin Gruwell for her students led to strain on her marriage, reflecting the real challenges faced by educators. The movie Freedom Writers accurately captures the real struggles of urban education and the impact of violence on young lives.
The poignant 2017 drama Freedom Writers is based on a true story, making the challenging yet transformative journey of a teacher and her students in a racially divided urban high school, even more powerful. At the heart of the movie is Erin Gruwell (Hilary Swank), a young teacher brimming with idealism and determination. Set just after the LA riots, the movie vividly captures the volatile mid-1990s when racial tensions and gang violence were rampant in schools. Nobody does scrappy and determined quite like Hilary Swank. Be it as a working mother who puts herself through law school in Conviction, a journalist trying to bring the murders of Indigenous women to light in Alaska Daily, a teacher overcoming odds to demand a classroom in Freedom Writers, or a fighter in a boxing ring in Million Dollar Baby, Swank has found her niche playing women who aren’t afraid to break rules and tradition to do what’s right.

With its list of new releases for July 2023, Prime Video is going to help you stay safe from the oppressive July sun.
Highlighting the Amazon Originals on the TV side this month are two heavy hitters. The first is The Horror of Dolores Roach on July 7. Based on a podcast of the same name, this series could best be described as a modern day Sweeney Todd? Why, you ask? Well you know why. Think about it. Then season 2 of Neil Gaiman adaptation Good Omens premieres on July 28. This season will follow angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tenant) as they seek to keep the Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) away from both heaven and hell.
There aren’t any Amazon Original movies of note this month and that’s alright as the influx of library titles is more than enough. July 1 sees the arrival of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, No Country for Old Men,...

Ernesto Contreras has the ability to spot poetry in the smallest of things. Even the title of his 2017 film, I Dream in Another Language, speaks volumes about the kind of world it engages in. However, it is one thing to spot poetry and completely another to be able to capture it. He is able to spot tenderness and truth in the world around him, but what appears to be the problem is the translation of that poetic truth on screen. His 2017 film suffered from the same problem of not being able to take a moment of truth to the next level, and that’s what happens in Where the Tracks End. It is the story of a boy named Ikal living in a railcar in rural Mexico and how he manages to scrape through the troubles of living a life on the margins.

Patrick Dempsey is in talks with Spyglass to star in “Thanksgiving,” multiple media outlets have reported.
Yes, that’s Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving,” a violent slasher film based on the fake trailer from Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s double feature “Grindhouse” from 16 years ago.
Chatter has existed about turning the jokey trailer into an actual movie, with Roth having written a screenplay over a dozen years ago. Fantasy became fact when Spyglass stepped in late last year to finance the picture, with shooting to begin in Toronto next month.
While plot details are mostly concealed, it is believed that Dempsey would play a small-town sheriff in Massachusetts who must fend off a holiday-specific murder spree.

Lisa Banes, an actor who appeared in “Gone Girl,” “A Cure for Wellness” and more, died on Monday after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident 10 days earlier in New York. She was 65.
On June 4, Banes was hit by a person driving a scooter in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, an NYPD spokesperson confirmed to Variety. The driver was traveling north on Amsterdam Ave. and ran a red light. The scooter struck Banes as she was crossing Amsterdam Ave. near Lincoln Center with the pedestrian signal in her favor. She was transported to Mount Sinai Saint Luke’s Hospital in critical condition, suffering a traumatic brain injury.
The driver fled the location, continuing northbound, an NYPD spokesperson said. No arrests have been made in connection to the accident, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Today is March 1st, which means we have a whole new set of titles to tell you about that just dropped on Netflix. The streaming service has 54 new movies/TV shows from nearly every major studio, including Warner Bros., Paramount and Sony, and while that number is still ten less than what we got last March, there’s far more original content on the service than there was a year ago. So, trust me when I say you’ve got plenty of options.
So many options, in fact, that I often find myself browsing for so long that I can’t decide on what to watch until it gets too late and I go to bed instead. First world problems, right?
In any case, below you’ll find the full list as well as a few descriptions of some personal favorites. Or some that I just felt like commenting on.

Netflix is adding a robust line-up of popular programs to its slate in March.
In addition to rom-coms like Matthew Mcconaughey’s “Ghosts of Girlfriend’s Past,” “He’s Just Not That Into You” and “Always a Bridesmaid,” the streamer is also adding a few classics like “Goodfellas” and “The Shawshank Redemption” starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins. The latter film also serves as an analogy for actor Macaulay Culkin’s journey to freedom, according to his Esquire interview.
Original Netflix shows coming to the platform next month include “Lost Girls,” “Crip Camp” and Season 3 of “Elite.” Based on a true story, “Lost Girls” follows a mother who, in her desperate search to find her missing daughter, helps to uncover a string of unsolved murders. Amy Ryan, Gabriel Byrne and Thomasin Mckenzie make up the cast.

With February 29th fast approaching – this is a Leap Year, remember – Netflix is preparing to roll out a fresh helping of new content for March 2020.
It’s a familiar combination of original series, time-honored classics and beloved franchise films, with next month set to herald the arrival of Resident Evil: Apocalypse and its undead sequel, Extinction. Sure, it’s a far cry from the quality and craft of The Lord of the Rings – speaking of which, both the Twin Towers and The Return of the King will be departing Netflix in four weeks’ time – but the saga of Alice still carved out an audience to call its own.
Also peppered throughout Netflix’s March 2020 catalog are some big-name horror titles and edge-of-your-seat thrillers, including Signs and the third season of Ozark. And then there’s the third season of Castlevania, which, it’s fair to say, has been a long time coming.

Here's what's new on Netflix in March 2020! We've got a complete list of what's leaving, too.
Normally the big story for each month of Netflix new releases are the exciting batch of Netflix original series and movies arriving. For Netflix's new releases for March 2020, things are a little bit different. Yes, there are some cool originals here but...look at those movies!
March 1 sees the arrival of Corpse Bride, The Shawshank Redemption, There Will Be Blood, and Goodfellas! Martin Scorsese likely can't unilaterally decide when and where his movies stream, but it is a happy coincidence that Goodfellas will now exist alongside The Irishman.
As for those Netflix originals...Ozark is the biggest returning hit in March. The story of a very corrupt family airs its third season on March 27. Also of note are Castlevania season 3 (March 5), Altered Carbon: Resleeved (March 19). But really after Goodfellas, nothing else was really necessary.

Netflix is out with its list of everything coming and going in March, and highlights include “Ozark” Season 3, coming March 27, and the Brazilian version of the popular reality competition “The Circle,” coming March 11.
There’s good news and bad news. The good news is we’re gaining some beloved mid-2000s films, like “He’s Just Not That Into You,” “Valentine’s Day” and “Silver Linings Playbook,” “Corpse Bride” and “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events,” plus some ’90s favorites like “Space Jam” and “GoodFellas.”
The bad news is that throughout the month we’re losing “Black Panther,” “Eat Pray Love,” “The Waterboy,” “P.S. I Love You,” “Batman Begins,” both “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” and “The Two Towers,” and “Kill Bill” Volumes 1 and 2.

Announced last December, Selena: The Series is dubbed as “the official story of Tejano music legend, Selena Quintanilla.” It is a coming-of-age story following Selena (Serratos) as her dreams come true and all the heart-wrenching and life-changing choices she and her family have to make as they navigate success, family, and music.

At the close of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Jason Clarke was seen bidding farewell to Caesar, before squirreling his family away to safety in the face of impending war. That freed up space in the franchise for a new human lead, a hole we’re learning Gabriel Chavarria will fill for 2017’s War of the Planet of the Apes.

Chavarria has some feature credits to his name, including 2007’s Freedom Writers and 2011’s A Better Life, but is best known for his work in TV’s East Los High. I’m not familiar with the show, but did catch him in A Better Life, where he made a solid impression.

Gabriel Chavarria, who stars in Universal's upcoming drama Lowriders, is being eyed for one of the two main human roles in 20th Century Fox's Planet of the Apes 3. We reported back in May that the the sequel is now entitled War of the Planet of the Apes, and this movie title has now been confirmed by Deadline. No details were given about his character, but the role was compared to James Franco's role in 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
The War of the Planet of the Apes title certainly make sense, since last year's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes teased an all-out war between the apes and the humans. 20th Century Fox has already set a July 14, 2017 release date for Planet of the Apes 3, which currently has that release date all to itself, although there is plenty of competition around it. Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales...

Strangely dropping a press release on a historic day where the nation's attention is elsewhere, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed their annual list of new member invitees this morning. For those who criticize the makeup of the Academy there was some good news and the stark realization the organization still has a long way to go. The Academy has spent the last eight to 10 years attempting to diversify its membership and this year's class mostly reflects that. There are significantly more invitees of Asian and African-American descent, but the male to female disparity is still depressing. Out of the 25 potential new members of the Actor's Branch only seven are women. And, no, there isn't really an acceptable way for the Academy to spin that sad fact. Additionally, It's important to realize the 322 people noted in the release have only been invited to join Hollywood's most exclusive club.

In life, there are couples that we hope will always stay together, just as there are romances that are doomed to succeed. From the latter group, it is often due to the poor matching of both people in the relationship. If you despise one half of the union, you secretly hope for their love to dissolve. The same is true for couples in the movies: you want to be rooting for both sides to reach an apex of romantic ecstasy so that you can go home happy.
The main issue with The Last Five Years, a new musical from director Richard Lagravenese (Freedom Writers), is not just that the young male and female protagonists are a bad match, but the actors who occupy those roles are poorly suited for each other. Anna Kendrick is one of the best young actors working in Hollywood today, and also a vibrantly talented singer.

Ruins itself as even high-toned cinematic junk food when its justifiable cynicism morphs into something manipulative and dangerously disingenuous. I’m “biast” (pro): love the director and the cast
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
I have not read the source material
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
This is a horror movie about a marriage. The marriage of Nick and Amy Dunne of New York City and North Carthage, Missouri. It’s a horror movie about what happens on their fifth wedding anniversary, when Amy disappears after signs of struggle in their palatial McMansion and Nick is soon believed by the police (and perhaps the viewer) to have killed Amy for various apparent motives that crop up in murder mysteries and real life all too often. It’s a horror movie about what happened to lead up to that terrible day and Amy’s disappearance.

Hilary Swank already has two best actress Oscars on her shelf, for Boys Don’t Cry (1999) and Million Dollar Baby (2004), which is something that only 12 other women have ever been able to claim. But, having only just turned 40, she is not resting on her laurels. Since her second win, in 2005, she has pursued a number of projects that were clearly intended to be awards bait, but that failed to resonate with voters: The Black Dahlia (2006), Freedom Writers(2007), Amelia (2009) and Conviction (2010).
