Matt Dillon, Kate Hudson, and Owen Wilson in Toi et Moi... et Duprée (2006)

Review by to_pat

Toi et Moi... et Duprée

7/10

Classic comedy updated...

This is a 21st century version of a classic screwball comedy, but with Owen Wilson showing his near-naked body. So what. There's a scene where Dupree is mouthing along with the movie 'Sabrina', and it's one of the finest emotional close-ups of any star I can recall. Wilson knew exactly what he was doing in this scene; Appealing to women in the audience with his gentleness. (OK, toward some men too.) This is an actor's mastery. The supporting cast is mighty fine in my opinion, and Kate Hudson is at her most gorgeous, and her sweet manner is a fine compliment to Owen Wilson's Dupree character. I have one negative to state here, and it's the 'over-the-top' ending. It could have been simpler and possibly have saved the film. Owen Wilson is a genius before the camera, and that's why I like this film so much.
