‘NCIS’: McGee’s Investigation of Laroche Takes a Turn
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for NCIS Season 22 Episode 17 “Killer Instinct.”] Well, McGee (Sean Murray) just learned he’s definitely right to be suspicious of Laroche (Seamus Dever). The realization comes after the agent saves the deputy director’s life from a hitman in the latest NCIS episode. To McGee’s confusion, his wife Delilah (Margo Harshman) gets off the elevator at NCIS with Laroche and are seemingly getting along. (She calls him Gabe.) She thinks he’s nice, but McGee protests, showing a mint (Laroche’s brand) he found under his desk, an indication, as he sees it, that he’s been spying on him. And this isn’t about losing out on the job to him, he insists, but rather about him hiding things from the team and playing politics with cases. After an anonymous tip, the team arrests and interrogates a hitman known as The Poet, only for him to die by suicide...

NCIS Season 22 Episode 17 Recap: Killer Instinct Hits and Misses
Image
“Killer Instinct” delivered one of the most chaotic cases of the season, blending serial killers, encrypted hitmen, and a side of marital tension served up over Coq au Vin.

NCIS Season 22 Episode 17 threw the team — and viewers — into a tangled web of poetic murders, government conspiracies, and simmering distrust.

It did it all while giving McGee a personal stake that finally pushed him out of the shadows and back into the spotlight.

NCIS to air new episode on March 31 that interrupts night out for the girls
Image
NCIS fans won’t have to wait long for a new episode as we are getting a fun new episode on March 28, 2025. What is happening in the episode and what else are we looking forward to?

In the previous episode, we did see some movement in Parker learning more about his mother’s death and the connection to the mysterious Lily. While we know this is a thread that will likely keep going for a few more episodes, we are at least getting to see more about the lives of other characters, such as Nick Torres.

Nick takes center stage in new episode “T’N’T” – NCIS Agents Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) and Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) travel to Hawai’i when they learn a key witness in one of their old cases has turned up there with crucial evidence, on a special crossover episode of the CBS Original series NCIS: Hawai`I,...

NCIS Season 22 Is Teasing A Major McGee Death & That's Worrying For Sean Murray's Future As Tim
Image
NCIS season 22 may be setting up a major death in the McGee family that could be devastating for Sean Murray's Tim. After a packed season 21 due to its shortened year in light of the dual Hollywood strikes of 2023, CBS' longest-running police procedural is back with more episodes, which allows the show to not only lean on its weekly cases but also give its characters their respective arcs. Alden Parker, Jessica Knight, Jimmy Palmer, and even Nick Torres have their own overarching storylines unfolding, but arguably the most interesting narrative is Tim McGee's.

In NCIS season 22, episode 1, the Major Case Response Team was at an odd place, with Knight in Camp Pendleton and Torres undercover. While both storylines were immediately resolved in the same outing, it also set up an interesting future for Tim, as he vied for a significant promotion to be the Deputy Director of the agency.

15 Sega Genesis Games That Deserve a Sequel or Remake
Image
It’s now been more than two decades since Sega exited the hardware business, but gamers who were around back then still fondly remember the days when Sega did what Nintendon’t. The Sega Genesis wasn’t just the console that introduced the world to Sonic the Hedgehog, it was also home to a deep library of action titles, sports games, and high-quality arcade ports.

And while a lot of the console’s best games have been re-released in various forms over the years, it’s still home to plenty of great titles that haven’t seen a proper update or new title in the series. To be fair, a few of these games have seen sequels, but if even those games were released decades ago, we think it’s time for another one, especially with Sega recently announcing plans to bring back a few classic franchises. These are...

Mortal Kombat (1992)
James Wan’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ Movie Casts ‘The Raid’ Star Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero
Mortal Kombat (1992)
I played a lot of "fighting" games as a kid. Double Dragon. Street Fighter. Killer Instinct. They were all pretty good. But there was one fight franchise that stood tall over all the others, and that was Mortal Kombat. I loved the characters, I loved how violent the game was, with all its fatalities and babalities (don't ask), and I loved the "Finish Him!" refrain at the end of a hard-fought match. Of course, none of this translated well to the big screen, as Paul W.S. Anderson's 1995 movie was more or less unwatchable, even to …...

Liam Neeson in Silence (2016)
The Blind Masters of Fighting Games
Liam Neeson in Silence (2016)
Silence is not something found in abundance at fighting game tournaments. Hype is the currency the fighting game community trades in, and skilled play is a press that mints hype.

In Cologne, Germany last October, Red Bull held a team tournament for “Street Fighter V” called The Pit. Like most tournaments, the atmosphere was electrifying. When Team Ecv, including Sven Van de Wege, took the stage, a hush fell over the crowd and suddenly the atmosphere resembled that of a golf tournament more than a fighting game tournament.

The crowd went silent because the announcer had prompted them to do so out of respect for Van de Wege, who is blind and plays using only audio cues.

He lost, but the crowd nonetheless erupted like a volcano for him.

“I lost my match against an Akuma player, but I got such a big applause that it felt like I won the tournament,...

‘Assassination’ DVD Review
Stars: Johnny Messner, Vinnie Jones, Estella Warren, James Remar, Michael Paré, Richard Burgi, Matt Cinquanta, Rachel Laurenne, Ardeshir Radpour, Michael J Long, Paulina Vallin | Written by Sean Ryan | Directed by Timothy Woodward Jr.

Assassination, aka Decommissioned sees CIA agent John Niles (Messner) set up to be the patsy in the assassination of the President of the United States after the President (Burgi) announces plans to decomission (hence the films original title) a special taskforce within the Us government which spies on its own citizens, citing that it is against the Us constitution. However those involved with the taskforce, dubbed BT85, have other ideas…

Ok, let’s lay our cards on the table. I’m a big fan of Johnny Messner, I have been since his starring role in the 2005 cop show Killer Instinct (a show that was, and still is, criminally underrated). Since then Messner has been working steadily in...

How Natural Born Killers Changed Product Placement
Simon Brew Aug 26, 2019

Not all publicity is good publicity, as Coca Cola found out in Natural Born Killers, a film that changed the way brands worked with movies.

In Jane Hamsher's excellent book, Killer Instinct, the producer charts the difficult path she and Don Murphy had in bringing Natural Born Killers to the big screen. Natural Born Killers was, of course, originally a Quentin Tarantino screenplay, one that changed dramatically when Oliver Stone signed up to direct the movie.

Tarantino sold the rights to the movie for $10,000 after he'd tried to set the project up himself--this was before the Oscar-winning success of Pulp Fiction--and he would regret the decision. That said, rumors that he held animosity toward Stone himself were just that. In interviews since, Tarantino has always been respectful toward the Platoon director.

Back to Killer Instinct though: There are a couple of passages in the book...

[Comic Execution] 12/6 – ‘Grindhouse’, ‘The Fox’, ‘Burn The Orphanage’
So, Twitter news (cue most of you scrolling down past this part)… I recently griped on Twitter about Warren Ellis and Scott Snyder (one is the writer of ‘Transmetropolitan’, the other writes ‘Batman’). My gripe with Warren Ellis is that he’s moved on to writing novels and really doesn’t interact much at all with the comic book community as a whole, as well as letting his primary publisher, Avatar Press, fall to ruin with bad horror comics like ‘Crossed’. Snyder, on the other hand, ended his incredible run on ‘Swamp Thing’ far too soon in favor of writing the higher-profile and more expensive ‘Superman Unchained’, as well as publishing his excellent new sci-fi horror ‘The Wake’ through the loathsome Vertigo Comics.

I did Not expect to have a conversation with either of them, but I (sorta) did! Warren basically shot back with curt, colorless responses that pretty much...

Cory Monteith movies According to the IMDb, Cory Monteith’s movie career included only 11 features, two of which currently in post-production. James Bond: why 007 games have almost never worked
Rip-roaring adventure, memorable enemies and beautiful women, the Bond movies should make great games. But they've only made one. Here's why

I can remember my first experience of a James Bond computer game. It was the Commodore 64 version of View to a Kill, released by Domark Software in 1985. I distinctly recall awkwardly driving a tiny block-like taxi around a depiction of Paris that resembled a series of green sticking plasters haphazardly slapped over each other. And I thought to myself, this in no way captures the experience of watching a James Bond movie. It would turn out to be a prescient observation.

Fast forward to 2012 and the latest Bond flick is thrilling movie-goers with its gritty action, complex plot and compelling central performance. But there is no direct video game tie-in. Instead, there are a couple of sequences from Skyfall tucked into a game called 007 Legends, a sort of best-of-Bond compendium,...

Junk TV Round-Up: Burn Notice, Mob Doctor, Criminal Minds, Transporter
All right, you buncha undercooked couch potatoes, limber up your DVR and pretend like you don’t need any friends, it’s time for more junk TV.

Sleeper hit Burn Notice has its sixth season premiere tonight, and I’m betting the suits over at the USA Network haven’t been this pleased since they dug Silk Stalkings out of CBS’s garbage. Series creator Matt Nix had a chat with the good folks over at TVLine and he explains that this will be a very different season. Which, yes, every series creator says before a premiere, but I think Nix actually means it this time. As you may (or may not) recall, the end of last season found the sweet(?) and precious(!) Fiona in the slammer after she turned herself in for blowing up the consulate. This canny move totally threw a monkey wrench in Anson’s plans (Jere Burns,...

10 Things Today’s Gamers Wouldn’t Understand
As an increasingly old and, as some would have it, bitter man, I’ve recently begun to cast my resentful mind back on the many trials that afflicted the 90s gamer which today’s youth would doubtless fail to grasp. I’m not talking about the obvious here: graphics have gotten far better and we didn’t have touch screens on our Sega Mega Drives. Instead the list below gathers together some odd things even those who lived at the time may have relegated to the limits of their subconscious and one you may never have heard of (though I’m certain I haven’t made it up). Quirks, practices and technological limitations that your grandchildren, dear reader, will scarcely be able to believe afflicted you: the greatest generation.

I could have mentioned demo discs, “cheats”, the size of the original Game Boy (above) or the fact that we used...

FrightFest 2010 Line-Up: Initial Thoughts
Yesterday saw the official announcement of the line-up for the London Film4 FrightFest 2010 and whilst the FrightFest gang had already announced Hatchet II, The Last Exorcism, Eggshells, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and we exclusively revealed the appearance of Burning Bright, and Red White & Blue at this years festival, there was still some surprises amongst the bunch.

So after reading up on each movie that is due to play the festival I thought it would be a good idea to breakdown just which movies I’m looking forward to seeing, and which ones I’m not… As always let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Highlights:

The real highlights for me this year include Simon Rumley’s Red White & Blue, the infamous A Serbian Film – which should test the FrightFest audiences metal! Of course I’m looking forward to Hatchet II – since when has Adam Green ever let FrightFest down?...

Chi McBride in Human Target (2010)
'Human Target's' Chi McBride Misses 'Pushing Daisies'
Chi McBride in Human Target (2010)
One of the most fun things of any press tour is getting to sit down with Chi McBride and just talk, about anything. Politics, baseball, cigars... when you're talking to Chi, the conversation can go just about anywhere.

The drawback to seeing McBride on so many tours is that he's always there with a new show to promote. Because he's able to handle drama and comedy with equal ease, he's cast in a lot of pilots. The problem is, most of the resulting shows rarely last more than a couple of years. In the last six years, since his four-season run on 'Boston Public' ended, we've seen McBride in 'Killer Instinct,' 'The Nine' and 'Pushing Daisies.' Now he's co-starring with Mark Valley and Jackie Earle Haley in the Fox popcorn-action series 'Human Target.'

I sat with McBride as he held court at Fox's...

On the Verge
Noah Emmerich makes a terrific sidekick. He has played Jim Carrey's devious cohort (The Truman Show), Jim Caviezel's understanding best friend (Frequency), and Kurt Russell's kindhearted assistant (Miracle). But in Pride and Glory, opening next week, Emmerich is nobody's buddy. In the film's tight-knit family of New York City cops — with the patriarch played by Oscar winner Jon Voight, his son-in-law by Colin Farrell, and his youngest son by Edward Norton — Emmerich is Francis Jr., the eldest son, caught in a web of police corruption. It's a plum role, and even Emmerich couldn't believe it when writer-director Gavin O'Connor offered it to him, despite his having appeared in both of the filmmaker's previous movies, Tumbleweeds and Miracle. "I read the script and was like, 'Oh my God, this is a starring role,'" Emmerich recalls. "I asked him, 'Are you sure you want me for this?'...

2006 Cancelled Shows: Not Many Surprises from Fox
After what one could call Fox's most successful seasons in its history, there are very few cancellations to report. Fox's schedule will remain the same for the most part and borderline shows (ratings-wise) like The Oc, The Loop and The War at Home have received renewal notices. The few shows that were cancelled (either this week or earlier) include:

Arrested Development - Critics loved it but few people watched. Read more information here.

The Bernie Mac Show - After five seasons and 104 episodes, this comedy aired its last original episode on April 14, 2006.

Free Ride - This partially-improved sitcom aired the last of its six episodes on April 9, 2006.

Head Cases - The Chris O'Donnell comedy was one of the first fatalities of the 2005-06 season.

Killer Instinct - This San Francisco-based crime thriller aired episode #13 (of 14 produced) in March of 2006 and hasn't been seen...
