Halloween: 25 Years of Terror

Rare John Carpenter Halloween: "25 Years of Terror" - 4 Disc Set
It never seems to fail. If you look hard enough , you will find something that you've 'got to have'. Today I have discovered another wonder of the world. I was browsing Amazon.co.uk and discovered 'Halloween: 25 Years of Terror' It is very strange to me to find something like this. I would think that something as simple as a documentary would find an equal distribution to all countries. But that seems to not be the case. So that itself leaves…...

Robert Galluzzo Talks The Psycho Legacy
This writer caught up with genre journalist and documentary filmmaker Robert Galluzzo this past Tuesday night at the Burbank, CA hot spot of horror, Dark Delicacies, as he celebrated the release of his documentary The Psycho Legacy (which that day released nationwide via Shout! Factory) with a well attended, in-store DVD signing.

It seemed an appropriate evening to pick his brain as fans and Psycho alumni arrived en masse, as did an intimidating lightning storm that hovered over the Los Angeles basin, not unlike the one Psycho star Janet Leigh drove through on her way to her eventual demise in the original 1960 Hitchcock classic, which, along with its sequels, served as the inspiration for Galluzzo’s The Psycho Legacy.

Galluzzo happily took some time out from the festivities to wax on the trials and tribulations of his long-in-the-making documentary (read our review of The Psycho Legacy here) as well as...

Exclusive: Robert V. Galluzzo Talks The Psycho Legacy
Robert V. Galluzzo sheds some new light on the historic Psycho movie series, particularly the sequels

Have you ever gotten excited about a new DVD coming out, only to be disappointed with the lack of special feature content? It happened to Robert V. Galluzzo a few years back and instead of ranting and raving on message boards and commenting in articles, he did something about it: He made a documentary.

A lifelong horror fan who had contributed as a journalist on numerous horror sites before creating his own site, Icons of Fright, he discovered that when Psycho II and Psycho III were released on DVD back in 2005, there were absolutely no special features. He began to discover that there just wasn't a lot of information out there. Particularly on the sequels to Alfred Hitchcock's original 1960 classic, Psycho. The result of that initial idea is The Psycho Legacy, which will...

Sneak Peak: Bobby Ray Akers Jr.'s Hallow Pointe
Here's some cool info I found on Facebook today about an upcoming film for 2011 called Hallow Pointe. Check out the info and it's impressive cast below!

From The Press Release:

"They came to save their marriage...Now they must fight to save their lives."

Hallow Pointe in Development for 2011 Release

Director Bobby Ray Akers, Jr & Dead of Night Films, LLC in Development on Hallow Pointe

St. Louis: Director Bobby Ray Akers, Jr and Dead of Night Films, LLC are in development on the horror/thriller Hallow Pointe. Production is set to begin filming in Louisiana in the Fall of 2010 with an anticipated 2011 theatrical release.

Hallow Pointe is a chilling story about love, life and what lengths you go through to try and save someone; all told within the classic horror staple, a creature feature. The film is centered around Madeline's Closet, a quaint bed and breakfast hidden away from the...

Hellraiser Documentary Details
With nearly every horror franchise receiving the documentary treatment these days, it's not surprising that Hellraiser is among them. Today, we've got some early details for you on behind-the-camera talent.

Dark Knight Pictures announces that Stefan Hutchinson (Halloween: 25 Years of Terror) will direct the definitive documentary with our good friend Ryan Rotten on scripting duties. Anthony Masi (His Name Was Jason) will handle producing details.

Really looking forward to this one. While I'd argue that there are only three films in the Hellraiser series (unless someone wants to release the longer cut of Bloodline), I'm really curious to see how the direct-to-video Dimension era is handled.

Camelot Acquires Rights to Zombie Culture Documentaries
Camelot? King Arthur's Court? Zombies? Have we been missing an entirely new "undead" angle to the story of The Knights of the Round Table? No. Not that Camelot. We're talking about Camelot Entertainment Group, Inc. who just added two horror documentaries to its domestic line-up -- Zombie Culture: Documentary of the Living Dead and Unearthed: The Hellraiser Saga. Both will be distributed through Camelot’s DarKnight Pictures, a division of Camelot Distribution Group.

Both documentaries will be produced by Anthony Masi who brought us the marginally interesting His Name Was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th and Halloween: 25 Years of Terror.

“Hellraiser is one of the most recognizable horror franchises and with the studio reboot in 2011, this is great time to produce and release a behind the story feature,” commented Jaime Thompson, Camelot's President of Distribution. “Zombie Culture capitalizes on how zombies have become the most popular movie monster.

Never Sleep Again Trailer: A Nightmare on Elm Street Documentary
With both Friday the 13th and the Halloween franchises getting their shot at a reboot, it was only a matter of time before A Nightmare on Elm Street would be resurrected for a new generation as well. A remake is currently in production from Platinum Dunes with director Samuel Bayer at the helm and Jackie Earle Haley wearing the striped sweater and glove. But in order to start generating some hype for Freddy Krueger's return, they have also commissioned a feature-length documentary on the series entitled Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy. This doc is clearly following in the footsteps of other franchise retrospectives like Halloween: 25 Years of Terror and His Name Was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th (especially considering that Daniel Farrands, director of the latter, is once again in charge). Also helping out is Andrew Kasch of horror website Dread Central [1]. Although the movie...

Freddy Krueger Will Be Killed with Kindness in New 'Elm Street' Documentary
Michael Myers has his own Halloween: 25 Years of Terror, a certain hockey masked maniac has His Name Was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th, even Jaws has the incredibly elusive The Shark is Still Working, but no one has yet chronicled with any depth the behind-the-scenes adventures of everyone's favorite fedora sporting, sweater wearing, knife-glove loving, dreamscape-haunting pedophile. But fret no more, all it takes is a big Hollywood remake to give an icon of fright his very own documentary, and thus we shall soon have Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy.

From the creators of the fantastic and comprehensive His Name Was Jason, Never Sleep Again has already begun filming in Los Angeles, which has long served as the shooting location for the fictional street. The documentary will be narrated by the series' most notable final girl, Heather Langenkamp, and span everything from the original 1984 film...

Cleanin' Up The Town on the 25th Anniversary of Ghostbusters
Fangoria brings you a sneak-preview of the new Ghostbusters documentary, along with a World Premiere clip from the film - featuring Ray Parker Jr!

Over the past few years, the “fan documentary” has practically become a genre unto itself. Bored with the typical studio docs that generally pop-up as DVD bonus features, a new breed of documentary filmmaker has emerged. Armed with a true passion for their subjects, their work is exhaustive, and the finished product is often some of the most comprehensive and detailed accounts of the films to which they pay tribute.

With the success of Halloween: 25 Years Of Terror and the recent His Name Was Jason, the door has opened for filmmakers to collect the real stories behind many of the horror genre’s greatest films. The upcoming slate of such docs is growing, with The Shark Is Still Working, The Psycho Legacy, and a rumored...

Exclusive Interview: Halloween Comics' Stefan Hutchinson
Stefan Hutchinson is a Michael Myers nut, or as he likes to call it, “The Shape behind the Shape”. He burst onto the horror scene back in 2006, directing and co-writing the intricate documentary Halloween: 25 Years Of Terror, featuring behind the scenes interviews with cast and crew from the 2003 Halloween anniversary convention. In 2008, Halloween Comics was presented to the world of comic books with the help of Devils Due Publishing, and Stefan Hutchinson tackled the writing duties for its initial release, Halloween: Nightdance, which was a Fangoria Top 10 book for 2008. He is the prominent writer for Halloween Comics, continuing on with 30 Years Of Terror, Autopsis and The First Death Of Laurie Strode, along with the upcoming The Mark Of Thorn series featuring that mysterious “Man in Black” from Halloween 6. Fangoria caught up Stefan during a major writing session to ask some questions on the successful launch of Halloween Comics,...

His Name Was Jason (DVD Review)
Sometimes you wanna go where you know everybody’s name. For diehard fans, that’s the fun of revisiting Friday The 13th. Even if you’ve heard or read some of the stories contained in His Name Was Jason at conventions, in books like Peter Bracke’s Crystal Lake Memories and the documentaries, etc. included on the 2004 Friday DVD box, there’s still a weird lust for some of us to search for undiscovered livers and gizzards in the franchise’s body.

On the other corkscrewed hand, those who haven’t had the chance to check out the books and documentaries are in for a serious treat with His Name, out February 3 in a double-dvd set from Anchor Bay (Pre-Order Here). Director Dan Farrands (screenwriter of The Girl Next Door and Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Myers) and writer/producers Anthony Masi (who explored another archetypal slasher with Halloween: 25 Years Of Terror...

Anchor Bay Entertainment Loses a Legend
We learned of some incredibly disheartening news this past weekend that will impact the horror genre pretty heavily. Mark Ward, VP of Acquisitions for Anchor Bay Entertainment, was let go from The Bay. This is horrid news as Anchor Bay has been one of the leading genre providers for us horror fiends, while Ward is responsible for bringing you new titles such as Hatchet, Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer, Halloween: 25 Years Of Terror, Lightning Bug, Spiral, Behind The Mask and next year's Laid To Rest, Grace, and His Name Was Jason. He's also responsible for all of the incredible re-releases such as Halloween, Dawn Of The Dead, Day Of The Dead, Hills Have Eyes, Phantasm, Re-animator, Hellraiser 1 and 2, Children Of The Corn, and the Evil Dead 1 and 2 Book of the Dead editions along with the hundreds of horror titles on DVD.

DVD releases for Tuesday October 14, 2008
As our favorite holiday creeps ever closer, the DVD release slate continues to become increasingly jammed with the year's horror faves and this week is no exception. The big one this week is, of course, Ghost House Underground's massive 8 film horror boxed set. Featuring 8 great horror films from around the world, The Ghu box features many films we've been following all year including; Dance of the Dead, Trackman, The Substitute, Dark Floors, Room 205, The Last House in the Woods, No Man's Land: Rise of Reeker, and Brotherhood of Blood.

Of course if that's not enough Halloween horror for you, Anchor Bay is releasing a new Halloween: 30th Anniversary Box which includes the original '78 film restored, along with Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, and the Halloween: 25 Years Of Terror bonus disc. Where Halloween 2 and 3 are I have no idea.
