A pretty fun game.

I never played any of the other entries in this series, but I found this one to be quite fun albeit a bit mindless.

Okay, But Doesn't Add Anything New

Set a few years after the first game, the evil lord of darkness, Dark Guld, has arisen from his imprisonment, and has destroyed many countries to bring the world into chaos. Now, Tyris Flare, Ax Battler, and Gilius Thunderhead join forces once again to stop this new evil.

The game is an okay beat-em-up, but the main issue, as a lot of people have pointed out, is this game does not add anything new. Despite many differences (like the dwarves being replaced by cloaked sorcerers), the gameplay is the same as the first Golden Axe, and many of the new enemies act just like enemies from the first game. In fact, the only gameplay change (which is not major) is the modification to the magic meter, allowing you to hold the magic button to choose how much magic you want to use, allowing you to save some magic for future use. Only recommend playing if the game is part of a compilation and/or you want to play every game in the series.

Yaaaaaaawn!

I would say that video games don't come much simpler than this bore but the likes of Pong and Pac-Man, while less technically sophisticated are still better. Golden Axe 2 is such a chore to play with no fun or enjoyment injected into the proceedings whatsoever.

Again, you can choose from barbarian Ax Battler, amazonian Tyris Flare or dwarf Gillius Thunderhead as you slowly plod your way through a generic as hell fantasy kingdom, hacking and slashing at conveyor belt enemies (who sometimes kill themselves out of sheer stupidity) before you get to the big guy in a suit of armour who has taken over the land because of his evilness or whatever nonsense.

I often associate Golden Axe with Streets of Rage since the gameplay in the first games was very similar (I also bought them on the same day back in March 1993). But while the SOR series only got better and more sophisticated I am afraid that Golden Axe just got crapper. It tries to be the gaming equivalent of a big budget Conan movie but comes off as no more than a Roger Corman mini-series. You've never played a game so stripped down and bland as this.

Graphics D+ Sound D- Gameplay D- Lasting Appeal F

Pros:

It's a lot like Golden Axe

Cons:

It's a LOT like Golden Axe

Sound effects are no more than white noise.

Baddies all look the same.

No point system.

Very, very little in the way of power ups.

No combo moves.

Collision detection is poor.

Music is just ghastly.

A second helping of hacking and slashing action .

The second in the all slashing all hacking golden axe series is a fun game that improves on the first on every level, except those catchy tunes .

The level design has more gritty details and the magic attacks look way more impressive than before. There's nothing really bad to say about it-besides the fact that the creatures you abuse to gain steal magic from aren't those thieving little dwarfs who were so fun to beat up on. ah well.

Golden axe II is a lot of fun for those wanting a second helping of monster hacking action, lack of dwarf beating aside.

Nothing New

After the huge success of the first game Sega wanted to make another sequel ( I don't know if it was for many of to gain more fans for Sega ) But anyway there is nothing new to the game just a model where you can fight in a battle like Mortal Kombat but it was also unnecessary thing to do because you don't get the feel of combat fight and it's too short . So, again the moves are the same the controls Are also the same they changed the sounds and the characters looks ( but also I prefer the first one).
