For many months, [Adult Swim] had promoted the premiere of the new cartoon series "Squidbillies" for airing on the evening of Sunday, November 7th, 2004. However, behind the scenes, work on the "Squidbillies" project had been falling behind and, hours preceding the pilot's premiere, a decision was made by network producers that determined "Squidbillies" was not ready for air during its anticipated time slot. To solve the sudden eleventh hour problem, producers pulled the unfinished "Squidbillies" pilot and instead rushed to air the pilot for "Perfect Hair Forever" in its place, surprising viewers that had expected the premiere of the "Squidbillies" cartoon series.
