Ryan Reynolds has officially signed on to star in the Highlander remake for Summit Entertainment and director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.
We reported last month that the actor was a front runner for the role of Connor McLeod, a sword-wielding Scotsman who is one of the last immortal warriors known as Highlanders. After nearly a month's worth of negotiations, the deal is finally sealed for the Green Lantern star to portray this iconic character. He is no stranger to swordplay either, having played Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is directing, and he is also in talks to rewrite the screenplay by Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Neal H. Moritz and Peter S. Davis are producing.
Christopher Lambert first portrayed Connor McLeod in the 1986 adventure Highlander, that spawned the sequels Highlander II: The Quickening, Highlander: The Final Dimension, Highlander: Endgame, Highlander: The Source, Highlander: The Search for Vengeance,...

I love me some anime. I have since I was a teen. My love and appreciation for the genre has only grown and as much as I love it, I’m often disappointed by the lack of feature films that come out. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good series, but sometimes I don’t want to commit months to watching something. Sometimes I just want a quick fix. Anchor Bay and Manga Entertainment have provided me a much need anime injection of goodness with “Redline” and “First Squad.” Starting with “First Squad: The Moment of Truth” is an interesting project to say the least. Director Yoshiharu Ashino follows in the line of East/West collaborations like “Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust,” “Highlander: The Search For Vengeance,” and even “Afro Samurai,” but where as those were U.S./Japanese collaborations, this is a Japanese/Russian one. Yeah I said Russian.

The name Yoshiaki Kawajiri carries some serious weight among anime fans and aficionados. The franchise “Highlander” carries the same weight amongst it’s legions of loyal, sword wielding fans. In 2007 the two came together in a symphony swordplay and beauty. “Highlander: The Search for Vengeance” was a joint effort between Imagi Studios (“Tmnt”) and anime powerhouse Madhouse Studios (“Ninja Scroll,” “X,” “Trigun”) and was one of the recent efforts at a East-Meets-West collaboration on anime with others including Kawajiri’s own “Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust” and “Afro Samurai.” This was the first time a Western franchise or concept was adapted to anime, but was followed closely by the “Witchblade” anime. Okay now deep breath. You still with me? Good, because “The Search For Vengeance” is an amazing anime and the best and most interesting thing to happen to the franchise since the TV series. Written by Highlander series and movie writer David Abramowitz,...
