A group of plucky adventurers risk life and limb in pursuit of the Freemason Treasure, I mean Cibola, the lost city of gold, in National Treasure, I mean National Treasure: Book of Secrets, no, dammit, I mean the Fountain of Youth in the new action-adventure film directed by Guy Ritchie premiering on Apple TV+.
As my confusion indicates, Fountain of Youth feels all too familiar in its assemblage of action set-pieces in exotic locations, accompanied by the sort of quippy banter that people fighting for their lives probably don’t actually engage in. Starring John Krasinski and Natalie Portman as estranged siblings reuniting to search for the mythological spring, the film is the sort of mindless, glossy entertainment tailor-made for streaming, even if its large-scale action sequences and exciting locations would look great on the big screen.

Since exploding onto screens way back in 2008, Liam Neeson’s Taken has had a lasting impact on the world of action movies. And that impact continues, with an all-new action thriller taking some cues from director Pierre Morel and writers Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen’s tale of a former CIA agent on a mission to rescue his kidnapped daughter. A tale that transformed Neeson into the quintessential aged action hero.
Now, the upcoming action thriller On the Hunt will put a female-led spin on proceedings, with Australian actress Nicky Whelan(The Flood) following in Bryan Mills’ footsteps as an ex-special forces operative who brings her particular set of skills out of retirement after her daughter is abducted by human traffickers. You'd think that these capable action heroes would be able to keep a better eye on their kids...

Image Source: Walt Disney For years, fans of adventure cinema—and especially Nicolas Cage—have held out hope for one more chapter in the thrilling saga of National Treasure. The 2004 original and its 2007 sequel, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, cemented their legacy in the genre, sparking a nearly two-decade-long question: would Benjamin Franklin Gates ever return for another code-cracking, globe-trotting mission? Now, a glimmer of hope pierces the wait. In a recent conversation with MovieWeb’s George Edelman while promoting his latest film, The Surfer, Cage dropped a tantalizing tease. When asked about the possibility of National Treasure 3, he offered a cryptic but hopeful reply: “Don’t know. I do know that there’s been more chatter about it than normal.” While it’s not the confirmation fans have been craving, that little bit of “chatter” is enough to set off a ripple of excitement. Could it finally be happening?...

Nicolas Cage fans have been teased by the actor’s possible return to one of his beloved franchises for many years now, and it seems that they may have to wait a bit longer as the actor recently shared a disappointing, if slightly optimistic, view on the chancesof National Treasure 3 ever happening.
Cage is currently starring in The Surfer, another wild and unpredictable movie that has landed a strong set of reviews for the actor. While promoting the film, Cage spoke to MovieWeb’s George Edelman, and as well as discussing his current movie, he gave a short response to the chances for fans finally getting to see Benjamin Franklin Gates heading out in search of another “national treasure” in the near future. Cage said:

Long before Ty Burrell became a household name as the lovable Phil Dunphy on Modern Family, he appeared in one of Ridley Scott’s war movies. He starred in one of the most influential war movies of the past two decades. It marked one of his earliest appearances in a movie, setting the stage for his later fame.
Based on the 1999 non-fiction bestseller, the movie tells the harrowing story of the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu, where U.S. military forces faced disastrous setbacks in Somalia. National Treasure 3 is needed more than ever after the cancelation of National Treasure: Edge of History. The franchise's last movie was released in 2007 and set up National Treasure 3 by teasing the mysterious contents on page 47 of the United States presidents' book of secrets. Despite this setup for a direct sequel, the franchise remained dormant for the next 15 years, until a spinoff series, National Treasure: Edge of History, debuted on Disney+ in 2022.
While Edge of History did feature connections to the movies and saw some of the original cast members reprising their roles, including Justin Bartha's Riley Poole and Harvey Keitel's Agent Peter Sadusky, the series proved to not be as popular, and was canceled after one season. 17 years after National Treasure: Book of Secrets, the enticing page 47 National Treasure cliffhanger remains unaddressed, as does the opportunity to see Nicolas Cage play Benjamin Franklin Gates again. Hulu offers a wide array of films and series refreshed monthly, with over 100 new movies and TV shows coming to the platform in November. Launched in 2007, Hulu has been at the forefront of the streaming service boom since the very beginning, and it's one of the most popular services thanks to its rich catalog of new and classic movies and shows. From hosting series from networks like FX and ABC to producing original films and shows, Hulu has become an indispensable source of entertainment.
October 2024 was a busy month for the platform with the return of some popular series, including What We Do in the Shadows and Abbott Elementary. There were also plenty of horror titles for the Halloween season. Looking ahead to November 2024, Hulu is once again getting into the festive season with the addition of a variety of Christmas content, including TV movies, reality specials, and holiday movie favorites.

National Treasure 3 has a big story challenge that makes me want to see the third installment in the franchise even more badly. Starring Nicolas Cage as Benjamin Gates, National Treasure centers around the titular character's adventures while searching for treasure. Following the success of National Treasure: Book of Secrets in 2007, a threequel was greenlit that same year with production development beginning in 2008. However, it's been 16 years, and National Treasure 3 still hasn't happened. Given the success of the National Treasure movies, the fact that National Treasure 3 has remained in development hell for this long is surprising.
Instead of National Treasure 3, a series titled National Treasure: Edge of History which didn't star Nicolas Cage was created. Unfortunately, the show received disappointing reviews from critics and was canceled only after one season. The future of National Treasure 3 has been uncertain for years. All indications suggest that National Treasure 3 won't be able to break the franchise's divisive Rotten Tomatoes score. When the National Treasure movies were released, they were panned by critics, with both movies receiving Rotten Rt scores. Following the release and success of National Treasure: Book of Secrets, there was an expectation that there would be a third installment in the franchise shortly after. However, it's been 17 years since National Treasure 2 and National Treasure 3 still hasn't happened.
Seeing as the movies were popular with audiences, a TV show, National Treasure: Edge of History, which didn't have Nicolas Cage in the cast, was released in 2022. Unfortunately for the show's future, it didn't go over well with critics and was ultimately canceled. However, this issue it faced was not unique to the show, as the movies - in spite of their reputations with fans - suffered from the same problem.

Sometimes, a movie does so well that it spawns a sequel. But after that, the franchise just ends; there isn't a third installment, no matter what was promised or how badly fans want one. Sometimes fans will wait years for a threequel only to be bitterly disappointed.
There are many reasons a threequel might not go ahead. Perhaps the sequel pulled in less money than was expected or even totally bombed. Or, perhaps a threequel simply got stuck in "development hell" as the producers moved on to other things. It can be very trying for fans because it usually means the story is left unfinished.

Seventeen years after we last followed historian, cryptographer, and treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates (played by Nicolas Cage) on an adventure, we might finally be getting a new sequel to the 2004 film National Treasure and its 2007 follow-up National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets. Although producer Jerry Bruckheimer said two years ago that there was a “really good” script in place and awaiting Cage’s approval, it must not have met his approval, because screenwriter Ted Elliott revealed to the National Treasure Hunt podcast that he has been working on the project for the last year and recently completed his first draft of the script.

During the conversation, Turteltaub offered a promising update on National Treasure 3, revealing the script is currently "being written." Nicolas Cage deserves at least one more installment to his action adventure National Treasure franchise. However, even after 17 years of the release of the second installment, the updates on the movie franchise have been vehemently silent. While most fans want National Treasure to be a trilogy, Cage would need an addition of one more movie to complement that.

National Treasure has been quite a success, but Disney somewhat moved away from the movie series. While the studio put the Cage’s franchise into a coma, a new Dinesy show, National Treasure: Edge of History, was at work but not featuring Cage. After one season, the show was canceled. Now, fans finally have a positive update on the original franchise.

Despite Nicolas Cage’s vehement remarks about not being game for a National Treasure 3, director Jon Turteltaub is confident the project is happening, with the original cast along for the ride. Speaking with the National Treasure Hunt podcast, Turteltaub said he’s “100%” confident the sequel could happen with the original cast intact, including Cage, but they’ll need to act fast to get it made.
“100%. … We do have to hurry because people are both getting older and less interested and lives are changing and all that. And the world changes,” Turteltaub explained to the National Treasure Hunt podcast. “Our culture is changing. A lot. Since the first movie was made. Socially, certainly politically, and definitely, our language, and different cultural changes we’ve had. And you’ve got to make sure you’re in touch with all that and moving with it, and doing things the right way. … It...

Director Jon Turteltaub expresses confidence in the original cast's return for National Treasure 3. Turteltaub acknowledges the need to move quickly due to an aging cast and changing social, political, and cultural landscapes. Making National Treasure 3 is a complex process that requires staying in touch with modern society and doing things the right way, says Turteltaub.
Nicolas Cage and the original movie's cast will return for National Treasure 3, the film's director confidently declares. A surprise hit in 2003, grossing $347 million on a budget of $100 million, Jon Turteltaubs family-friendly action film starred Cage as a historian leading a quest for treasure using a map hidden on the Declaration of Independence. National Treasure: Book of Secrets followed in 2007, grossing $459 million, but another National Treasure sequel has yet to materialize (though the franchise was expanded with the Disney+ show National Treasure: Edge of History).

Cage says no, Disney says yes. The fate of National Treasure 3 lies in their mismatched hands. Cage's successful streak means he doesn't need the sequel, while Disney needs a hit. Will National Treasure 3 happen? Cage's approval is key, but Disney's hope remains high.
It was recently revealed by Jerry Bruckheimer that National Treasure 3 is still in development, which is strange considering that Nicolas Cage recently said the complete opposite, but these mixed signals can actually be explained by the fact that Disney likely needs a National Treasure sequel way more than Cage does. In 2004, Disney released National Treasure, a movie following Nicolas Cage as Ben Gates, a historian searching for a mysterious treasure linked to the Declaration of Independence. Three years later, the movie received a sequel, National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Unfortunately, the franchise has been quiet ever since.

Jerry Bruckheimer confirms National Treasure 3 is still in development, despite Nicolas Cage's doubts. Bruckheimer is hopeful for a sequel, and says they're working with a brilliant writer on the script. Once the script is written, it will go to Cage for approval, according to Bruckheimer.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirms National Treasure 3 is still in development despite Nicolas Cage's recent comments casting doubt on the sequel coming to fruition. Cage exclusively told Screen Rant that "there is no National Treasure 3. If you want to find treasure, don't look at Disney, okay? It's not there." The actor's candid comments come 17 years after the previous sequel, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, was released in theaters, ending with a tantalizing cliffhanger about what is on page 47 in the United States presidents' titular book.
During an interview with MovieWeb, Bruckheimer offered a more hopeful update on National Treasure 3, confirming that it is still in development.

Michael Keaton takes on another hitman role in his new directorial venture, Knox Goes Away. Keaton played a hitman in his directorial debut, The Merry Gentleman, in 2008. The Batman actor revealed that he wouldn’t have taken on the script by Gregory Poirier if he thought the film would not hold up. For Keaton, the film was like a game of Jenga, where every piece had to work for the movie to work.

Nathan Drake and Lara Croft could be Hollywood’s go-to treasure hunters until someone else comes along because, according to Nicolas Cage, a National Treasure 3 is not happening. Cage played treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates in Disney’s 2004 action-adventure romp, with National Treasure: Book of Secrets mapping a path to theaters in 2007.
Speaking with ScreenRant, Cage said, “No, there is no National Treasure 3. If you want to find treasure, don’t look at Disney, okay? It’s not there.”
Cage’s verbal mousetrap is quite telling of the actor’s tolerance for how Disney conducts its business. Cage’s comment may refer to how Disney fumbled the bag with its sequel series National Treasure: Edge of History. The adventure series starring Lisette Olivera, Zuri Reed, Jake Austin Walker, Antonio Cipriano, and Catherine Zeta-Jones was canceled after one season despite having ties to the Cage-led feature films.

National Treasure 3 just received a very discouraging update from franchise star Nicolas Cage.
Speaking with Screen Rant, the actor bluntly stated that fans should stop expecting another National Treasure movie to be made at Disney. "No, there is no National Treasure 3. If you want to find treasure, don't look at Disney, okay? It's not there," said Cage, who stars as historian Ben Gates in the franchise. Cage's comments are likely to disappoint the majority of the fandom, many of whom have been waiting for National Treasure 3 since 2008 when the threequel was first announced by Disney.

The world of Suits is getting ready to expand with Suits: LA, the new television series that will bring the drama fans of the original series know and love to a different location. The cast of the upcoming project has recruited Troy Winbush, according to Variety, with the National Treasure: Book of Secrets star preparing to join Stephen Amell, Josh McDermitt and Lex Scott Davis in the spinoff. If there was a lesson to be learned from the original Suits show, it's that any lawyer associated with the program created by Aaron Korsh will stop at nothing to get what they want.

You wanna get nuts? C’mon, let’s get nuts. Through no fault of his own, Michael Keaton’s fun, nostalgic return as Batman had imploded when The Flash would debut to disaster and his follow-up in Batgirl would equally become infamous by getting shelved and locked away. Keaton is bouncing back in a big way with his second directorial effort, Knox Goes Away. Keaton’s directorial debut came in 2008 with the crime thriller, The Merry Gentleman. Michael Keaton is back, releasing the trailer for Knox Goes Away, the story of a principled hit man.
Saban Films has set the U.S. release date for Knox Goes Away, the thriller marking Michael Keaton’s second feature behind the camera, in which he also stars opposite Al Pacino, James Marsden, Marcia Gay Harden, and more. Pic will bow exclusively in theaters nationwide on March 15, having launched out of last year’s Toronto Film Festival.
Scripted by Gregory Poirier (National Treasure: Book of Secrets), Knox Goes Away has Keaton playing John Knox, a hit man attempting to make amends before his recently discovered dementia takes over. Aided by a trusted friend (Pacino) with his own shady past, Knox races against the police — and his own rapidly deteriorating mind — to save his estranged son (Marsden) from a vengeance-fueled mistake and “cash out” before it’s too late.

Nicolas Cage expresses surprise and disappointment that a third National Treasure film still hasn't been made despite the success and popularity of the franchise. Cage explains that he had a lot of fun making the previous movies and believes they're classics for the whole family. National Treasure 3 has been in development for some time, but it has made little progress over the years.
Nicolas Cage is surprised that National Treasure 3 is still not moving forward. The first National Treasure film, released in 2004, remains one of Cage's most popular works. The success of the action-adventure heist movie led to a sequel, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, that was released in 2007. Fifteen years later, the franchise expanded further with the Disney+ television series National Treasure: Edge of History, although it was canceled after one season. Throughout this time, there has been discussion and speculation about whether National Treasure 3 will ever happen.

The sci-fi movies on this list are not all great works of art. They're not all "secretly great," not all misunderstood masterpieces, and they're certainly not all even "good." Some are! Some are merely fun. Some are bad but instructively so, movies whose bad-ness is thought-provoking. Some are even so bad, they circle back around to being incredibly entertaining.
Is "bad-ness" a lack of competence, or one of taste? As C.S. Lewis once wrote, labeling something negatively is an easy way out. "The distinction [between highbrow and lowbrow] is certainly used to allow us the satisfaction of despising certain authors and readers without imposing on us the labour of showing that they are bad," he wrote. He was talking about books, but his point still stands.
I steadfastly believe that it's worthwhile to watch "bad" movies. I believe we can learn a lot from them about our taste, about what works and what doesn't,...

National Treasure 3 development has stalled due to Disney's shifting priorities, but the potential storyline involving the mystery of Page 47 has already been set up. Page 47 could contain information about the missing 18-and-a-half minutes from the Watergate Tapes, which would be a compelling storyline for National Treasure 3. The existence of the Georgia Guidestones and the secretive Bohemian Club could provide intriguing narratives for National Treasure 3, possibly involving the President and uncovering hidden societies.
It has been heavily speculated what is on page 47 in the President's Book of Secrets in National Treasure 2, and the National Treasure Page 47 mystery could be the premise for the long-awaited National Treasure 3. 2004's National Treasure was a promising movie that had the potential to develop into a long-running, profitable franchise for Disney. It’s an interesting month ahead on Hulu, as the streamer rolls out some of the series it’s been keeping in its back pocket for the holiday season.
On December 15, the first season of Such Brave Girls will arrive. The sitcom follows a dysfunctional family – and we mean dysfunctional! – that includes real-life sisters Kat Sadler and Lizzie Davidson. British comedian Sadler has previously written for The News Quiz, Hypothetical, and Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable, but this is her first big TV project. “Everything we joke about in the show is from a place of lived experience,” she told Funny Women. “I wish I could say this is a heart-warming show about overcoming trauma, but that would be a lie. It’s about three toxic, damaged egomaniacs manipulating the world and each other for their own personal gain, vengeance and glory…just like in Little Women.” Sounds good!

Saban Films has acquired U.S. rights to “Knox Goes Away,” a thriller about a contract killer with dementia that was directed by and stars Michael Keaton. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September. Saban Films plans to release the movie theatrically in the first quarter of 2024.

David Holmes, stunt double for Daniel Radcliffe in the Harry Potter films, is being featured in HBO's documentary David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived. After a tragic accident on set left him paralyzed, Holmes has become an advocate for stunt performer safety and has started a production company and podcast focused on life after spinal cord injuries. Despite the challenges he faces, Holmes maintains a positive outlook on life and continues to make an impact through charity work and his friendship with Radcliffe.
The Harry Potter series took the world by storm and defined the literature of the Millennial generation. It was no surprise when the entirety of the book series was given film adaptations, even splitting the final book into two movies. When young Daniel Radcliffe auditioned for the role of "The Boy Who Lived," his world would be changed forever. His would not be the only one, though.

Nicolas Cage broke out in laughter during a recent Vanity Fair video interview when forced to watch the infamous scene from 2004’s “National Treasure” in which his character, treasure hunter and cryptographer Benjamin Gates, says for the first time, “I’m gonna steal the Declaration of Independence.” The line of dialogue has been a calling card for Cage’s career for 19 years now and counting, and it’s inspired countless memes and parodies on the internet.
“How do you take something that is so profoundly ridiculous and really try to sell it?” Cage said while watching the infamous moment. “What I really like about that scene just seeing it again for the first time in however many years is I like the positivity of the character. He really believes this. He really reveres it. I think that’s charming.”
“I can’t even say it without laughing,” he added about the line.
