Cage played treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates in Disney’s 2004 action-adventure romp, with National Treasure: Book of Secrets mapping a path to theaters in 2007.

Speaking with ScreenRant, Cage said, “No, there is no National Treasure 3. If you want to find treasure, don’t look at Disney, okay? It’s not there.”

Cage’s verbal mousetrap is quite telling of the actor’s tolerance for how Disney conducts its business. Cage’s comment may refer to how Disney fumbled the bag with its sequel series National Treasure: Edge of History. The adventure series starring Lisette Olivera, Zuri Reed, Jake Austin Walker, Antonio Cipriano, and Catherine Zeta-Jones was canceled after one season despite having ties to the Cage-led feature films.

Cage explains that he had a lot of fun making the previous movies and believes they're classics for the whole family. National Treasure 3 has been in development for some time, but it has made little progress over the years.

Nicolas Cage is surprised that National Treasure 3 is still not moving forward. The first National Treasure film, released in 2004, remains one of Cage's most popular works. The success of the action-adventure heist movie led to a sequel, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, that was released in 2007. Fifteen years later, the franchise expanded further with the Disney+ television series National Treasure: Edge of History, although it was canceled after one season. Throughout this time, there has been discussion and speculation about whether National Treasure 3 will ever happen.

On December 15, the first season of Such Brave Girls will arrive. The sitcom follows a dysfunctional family – and we mean dysfunctional! – that includes real-life sisters Kat Sadler and Lizzie Davidson. British comedian Sadler has previously written for The News Quiz, Hypothetical, and Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable, but this is her first big TV project. “Everything we joke about in the show is from a place of lived experience,” she told Funny Women. “I wish I could say this is a heart-warming show about overcoming trauma, but that would be a lie. It’s about three toxic, damaged egomaniacs manipulating the world and each other for their own personal gain, vengeance and glory…just like in Little Women.” Sounds good!

Saban Films has acquired U.S. rights to “Knox Goes Away,” a thriller about a contract killer with dementia that was directed by and stars Michael Keaton. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September. Saban Films plans to release the movie theatrically in the first quarter of 2024.

In addition to Keaton, the film stars Oscar winners Al Pacino and Marcia Gay Harden, as well as James Marsden, Suzy Nakamura, John Hoogenakker, Joanna Kulig, Ray McKinnon and Lela Loren. “Knox Goes Away was written by Gregory Poirier, the screenwriter of “National Treasure: Book of Secrets.” Keaton produced the movie alongside Brookstreet’s Trevor Matthews and Nick Gordon and Sugar23’s Michael Sugar and Ashley Zalta.

Variety chief film critic Owen Gleiberman was a big fan of “Knox Goes Away,” praising it as “a silky and entrancing thriller” and heralding Keaton’s “beautifully psychological performance” along with his directing.

“How do you take something that is so profoundly ridiculous and really try to sell it?” Cage said while watching the infamous moment. “What I really like about that scene just seeing it again for the first time in however many years is I like the positivity of the character. He really believes this. He really reveres it. I think that’s charming.”

“I can’t even say it without laughing,” he added about the line.
