Scarface Remastered Project (PC Version) gives this 17 year old game a 2nd lease of life.

The Remastered Project from Sept 2022 makes this game playable by fixing major graphical glitches that occurred on modern-day PCs, and improves overall performance. The project also touches up the game textures and sound via remade, a.i upscaled or remastered. However, I encountered crashing to desktop problems when using this mod with the vanilla game. I suspect it is due to the buggy nature of the remade game textures. A random user who also experience the same issue left a helpful tip on page 3 of this Nexus Mod. Here is a quote of his reply posted below.

''I just tested the Drive-In mission that always crashed the game and fixed it by not installing the Mod's art/characters/npc folder textures. You can install all other folders except this subfolder, it seems that some npc textures are buggy and cause crashes. You should delete the npc subfolder and replace it with the one from cement.rcf in the Backup Rcf folder that the installation of this mod creates (by using Scarface Archive Explorer, a user shared the steps in the comments below). Be aware that I haven't tested it in other areas prone to crashes (Like the Island Bar's docks) but the Drive In mission always crashed with the mod completely installed, now was the first time I managed to complete it with this mod on by removing the mod's npc textures and replacing them with vanilla ones.''

Using this fix / workaround solves the crashing to desktop problem. Overall, this a great GTA Clone game.

Seen one GTA Rip-off, you seen them all.

but you never saw Scarface: the world is yours.

S:TWIY picks up where the movie left off IF the ending was different (i wouldn't reveal the end of scarface now, wouldn't i?) and tony escapes his mansion, only to have to rebuild his empire from the ground up. along the way, he deals drugs, kills his enemies, breaks up gangs through street shootings, buys fronts, launders dirty cash, does everything the emperor of a criminal empire would do.

First off, the Sounds. They're good. The soundtrack is a mixed bag of classics and songs you've probably never heard of, but they're there anyways. you have the whole scarface soundtrack (featuring songs that didn't make it into the movie) and you have modern metal wonders like Senor Peligro by Ministry. then you have a bunch of reggae that you'll probably never listen to, but it's there.

The graphics...a little bit under par for the PS2, but remember, graphics do not make a game. if graphics made a game, then superman 64 would be a lot better than Super Mario bros...which is not true, cause superman 64 is the worst video game of all time and SMB is near the best.

Finally, the gameplay...the most important element. it pretty much takes everything away from grand theft auto, and adds little things, like manual taunting and the "balls" feature where tony goes nuts after he's killed and taunted a bunch of bad guys. once tony activates his balls, he becomes invincible for a few short seconds and gains health for every kill he performs. the camera goes to a temporary 1st person view and the aiming is manual, but it's easy. all in all, the gameplay is a little better than par.

the only Con i can lay on the game, is that the farther you get into the game, the more frustrating it gets. for example, dealing 100 grams of coke to a coke dealer is easy, and it turns a hefty profit early in the game, but then when you unlock the big suppliers, you'll eventually have to sail between Miami and the islands. when you've made the deal, getting back to Miami takes a lot of patience. initially, you have to avoid pirates hoping to score a quick 10 Keys of coke, and if you manage to avoid them, then once you're within reach of Miami, the DEA will be on patrol. once they see you, it's game over. getting even further in the game, eventually you will have to get past the dealer's enforcer. if you can't, no deal. and if you screw up 3 deals in a row, the dealer and his posse will beat the crap out of you, and the dealer will take a pee on you. fun times.

Bottom line, if you're a scarface fan, buy it cause it will not disappoint. if you're a GTA fan, buy it. if you're more of a simple gamer, i don't recommend it because the game is vastly complicated. fun, but vastly complicated.

You Get Whats Coming To You

This game is based on Scarface the Movie, being an open world and a "what if" scenario it plays out very well. Playing as Tony hearing his classic lines and references from the Movie is just the beginning.

The story having to rebuild your empire makes it enjoyable, taking out gang rivalries, distribute narcotics for your business or just simply go on a rampage. One of the highlights the depiction of the Movie such as Tony's mansion, being shot up and having to rebuild or even customize it to your liking.

The controls however are little wonky and takes a minute to get used to. Fans of the film will get a real movie based game which is rare to say.

Oh dear, another licenced game. (PC version)

The licecned games tend to be pretty poor as the developers know it will sell purely on the fact it's based on a popular film/TV show. Then adding to that the dreaded "GTA clone", cos let's be honest here NO ONE can pull off a GTA -esque game other than Rockstar North. So it already has a lot to live up to.

Quick, the backstory....You play as Tony Montana in events set after the end of the film. Fans of the film will know that is pretty much impossible. But this game goes the "what if?" route by offereing what could have been if the film had ended differently. So this works as a kind of "psuedo-sequel" to the picture. Anyway, Tony has lost everything he built up in the movie and is now left back where he started, at the bottom of the pile. Tony wants vengeance on those that wronged him, and he wants his empire back too....game on!

While this will be compared to GTA (mianly Vice City)...I think that is unfair. This does have the bare basics gameplay that GTA has...but at the same time it's also very different. GTA has always had a very cartoon, over the top style to it. This game is much more realistic as it takes place in the same universe invented by the film. Your basic GTA standard clone style gameplay is here, run around a free-roaming city, steal cars, etc. But it also adds some nice "new" ideas too. I'll not bore you with the basic gameplay style, if you have played 1 GTA clone...you have played them all. So I'll get straight into some of the interesting features this game offers. The side missions are very varied. As you lose everything Tony "earnt" in the movie, you have to rebuild his empire from the ground up....including his mansion. When you do finally get it back...it's a dump (due the the events at the end of the film and the start of the game), so you have to renovate it and get it back up to a high standard. And you do this by spending money on items and furniture which you can place around the mansion. A nice little diversion on the violence the game does contain. You can also buy new cars that you keep and can call a driver to deliver to you as and when you need them. Adding to these you can also hire staff in the shape of henchmen, hire an assassin and even take control of them too...makes a change from being Tony. All of these things help build you reputation and respect so you rise from the gutter back to the top. There are also things like street racing sub-missions and others (just like every other GTA clone). Drug deals, deliveries, etc...all here too. Take out rival gangmembers to "clean up" the streets leaving them open for Tony to take over. You can even buy bussineses as "fronts" for what is really going on, but these are left open for attacks from rivals...so you can upgrade them with added security.

Speaking of attacks, the aiming system is really good too. You don't just lock on and shoot at the enemy. You can aim at individual body parts and each part has a different effect. Shot the leg and the guys will be limping, shot the arm and you'll find their aim impaired, shoot the head and well...you get the idea. You can even aim low and shoot their "cojones"...oww. Then there is this thing called "balls"...which Tony has in spades. Kill some bad guys and do a Tony -esque taunt, you get "balls". Do some dangerous but skillful driving, you get "balls". Once the "balls" meter is full, you can unleash it in only a way Tony can do, a screaming, rage fueled blowout of a bender "Say hello to my little friend". Something else done differently (and better) than GTA are the police chases. The AI of the police is very good. And you can actually out-run and out-drive them via skill. Makes the game much more interesting as well as the chases.

But one of the things I LOVE about this game is Tony himself. The developers not only make him look and sound like Tony from the movie (dispite no Al), but he also "acts" like him too. Every mannerism Movie Tony had, Game Tony also has. The way he walks, talks, his taunts. Everything that made Tony Montana such a great movie character has been duplicated in game form....right down to little details like the tattoo on his hand. All of which just adds to the charm of this game. You can even have really impressive converstions with the endless NPCs within the game...and each converstion will be different. Go to a bar and try to pick up some girls in the way only Tony Montana can pull off..."You want some Ice cream?". It's pointless...but really good fun. They have even included Tony's "morals" from the film. Yes Tony is a bad man...but he still had standards, like not killing random people and only those that desereve to die. So in the game, you can not go around on a murderous rampage killing inoccent bystanders...well not as Tony anyway. Another little touch I like.

Overall, this is a great game. Sure it has it's flaws, all games do. But for the chance to play as Tony Montana...this game is pure genius just for that alone. It's by far one of the better GTA clones and also one of the better licenced games too. Gamers will love the game. Fans of the film and games will just adore it even more. There is plenty to see and do outside of the main story, you really get your money's worth here.

One of the best gangster movies

One of the best gangster movies ever made. Great performances, from almost everyone, and the story is also great. It is recommended for everyone to watch, as we are talking about a basic work.

The game developers decided that Al Pacino's current voice was "too old" for this 30-something character, so they gave him full control over his substitute instead, as a part of the "voice and likeness" agreement. This very same agreement also prevents Pacino from lending his voice or likeness to other film-based games, which is why he's not included in the cast of Le parrain (2006). André Sogliuzzo was handpicked from a vast selection of voice artists by Al Pacino himself, to be the voice of Tony Montana.
          • Goofs
Although the game is set in 1983, quite a few of the songs featured on the soundtrack weren't released until long afterward.
