Homer Simpson is a simple man. Sure, he loves his family, but beyond that, all he really needs to survive is beer, food and football. Over 36 seasons and nearly 800 episodes of The Simpsons, Homer has taken part in just about every sport ever — including the utterly ridiculous game of lacrosse — but the one he comes back to the most is football.

From entire pigskin-themed episodes like “Lisa the Greek,” “Sunday, Cruddy Sunday” and “Bart Star” to throwaway jokes while Homer watches TV, there have been hundreds of Simpsons gags about the NFL and football in general. That’s why, for Super Bowl Lix — which means 59, I checked — I enlisted a variety of Simpsons Facebook Groups and a few superfans to assemble the list below of 59 hilarious football moments from The Simpsons.

Just a few weeks back, it was reported that The Simpsons would lose its coveted Sundays at 8 pm Et / Pt time slot, and would be moved to Wednesday nights.

Fox has announced the winter return dates for its iconic Animation Domination favorites Family Guy, Grimsburg, The Great North, Krapopolis and The Simpsons. On Sunday, Feb. 16, all-new seasons of Family Guy (8:00-8:30 p.m. Et/Pt), Grimsburg (8:30-9:00 p.m. Et/Pt) and The Great North (9:00-9:30 p.m. Et/Pt) debut, followed by new episodes of Krapopolis (9:30-10:00 p.m. Et/Pt) on Fox.

Then, starting Sunday, March 30, Animation Domination continues when all-new episodes of The Simpsons return (8:00-8:30 p.m. Et/Pt), followed by Family Guy (8:30-9:00 p.m. Et/Pt), The Great North (9:00-9:30 p.m. Et/Pt) and Krapopolis (9:30-10:00 p.m. Et/Pt).

Fox’s Animation Domination block is returning in full force this February.

That’s when the network will premiere new seasons “Family Guy,” “Grimsburg” and “The Great North” as well as new episodes of “Krapopolis.” New episodes of “The Simpsons” will follow in March.

It all starts on Feb. 16. That day marks the official Season 23 premiere of “Family Guy,” which will celebrate the occasion with a “Top Gun” parody. The episode will chronicle Maverick’s (Peter) relationship with Charlie (Lois) as he copes with the death of Goose (Joe) and a new relationship with his son Rooster (Chris). That episode will premiere at 8 p.m. Et/Pt. Though two “Family Guy” episodes premiered at the end of 2024, they were both holiday specials.

That Feb. 16 premiere will be followed by the Season 2 premiere of “Grimsburg” at 8:30 p.m. Et/Pt, the Season 5 premiere of “The Great North” at 9 p.m.

Fox has set Winter return dates for its Sunday night Animation Domination block.

The golden age of this unbelievably long-running series is a distant memory at this point, and enough has been said about the show's lack of quality in the modern age that I'll just leave it there. What's interesting is that now and then we get signs of life from the body of this animated series, which otherwise seemed to have long since flatlined. In 2023, for example, this very site proclaimed that "The Simpsons" is still good after seasons 33 and 34 suggested the quality was improving somewhat. The Simpsons started as an animated skit on The Tracey Ullman show and then debuted as its own series in 1989. 35 seasons later, it is the longest-running American animated series, sitcom, and scripted prime-time show of all time. While the first season was a little rough in terms of animation and tone, many of the beloved characters, tropes, and themes were firmly established.

There are, however, some major differences between what the show was and what it became, so going back to watch those early episodes can seem pretty bizarre. None of the Springfieldians had fully developed their madcap personalities yet, and the humor was more subtle, with dark undertones. Also, some mighty weird moments in the first season of The Simpsons defy any rational explanation.

After all, "The Simpsons" is about a nuclear family, while "Futurama" is about a group of coworkers. What if crisis-whammies Nordic drama producers would now tap into other European stories instead of staying in the Nordic bubble and self-sufficient eco-system of mixed national and regional private and public coin? Would it be payback time for European partners who until now have bought into the Nordic Noir, without some form of reciprocity?

The question was raised by Belgium producer Helen Perquy from Banijay Benelux’s Jonnydepony at this week’s Göteborg TV Drama Vision, at a panel which looked into the current Nordic drama production mayhem and possible solutions.

“In Belgium, we do have soft money, tax shelters, Vaf [Flanders Audiovisual Fund], Screen Flanders but you guys in the Nordics have had way more money from broadcasters and global streamers, while we’ve had to be creative [with our financing],” said Perquy.

“For years we’ve watched your series and films, they’ve been up there,” noted the producer, raising her arm up in the air.

"The Simpsons" stopped being a TV show decades ago. It's an institution now. Everyone with even a shred of pop culture literacy can name the core members of the titular family, and millions of others can rattle off a couple dozen residents of Springfield. These characters and their world somehow feel like they've always been around, almost like animation and comedy never actually existed until they did. Generations who grew up in a world where this show was always on, always airing, always available, may not instantly recognize just how much "The Simpsons" shifted television on its axis, but they're living in a world defined by the series' sense of humor, its blend of biting satire, slapstick, and sentiment.

And so it's come to this: /Film decided it was time to select the 25 best episodes of the series. Considering that there are 760 episodes to choose from, this was ... a challenge.

MK2 Films has acquired a collection of films and TV series directed by Bruno Dumont, the award-winning French director behind “Life of Jesus” and “Humanity.”

The acquisition, unveiled during Mipcom Cannes, covers the bulk of the director’s work, spanning eight films and TV series including “Li’l Quinquin,” which premiered at Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight. MK2 Films will represent rights to some of these titles, in France and/or international markets, apart from a few titles like “Slack Bay” whose global rights are still handled by Memento International.

“Bruno Dumont is, of course, a major figure of contemporary cinema,” said Nathanaël Karmitz, MK2’s chairman of the executive board. Karmitz praised Dumont for the “originality of his unusual, unpredictable [films], veering from gravitas to some unnerving, comedic tangents.” He continued, “Iconoclastic and consistently courageous in its form, his work perfectly represents the free and ambitious cinema that we are proud to promote.
