Goofy Takes Over CommuniCore Hall With TVs and Gym Class
Image
Disney, can we please just admit that CommuniCore Hall was a bad idea meant to save money?

Today, the Gooftastic Summer overlay debuted at Epcot, called “GoofyCore” and while it’s cute, it’s not quite on the same level as the original CommuniCore and feels somewhat low-budget.

What is there?

The new installation has several different offerings that include a DJ station with a couple of TVs showing Goofy clips and various game titles.

A board game-looking carpet (kind of like Chutes and Ladders).

Goofy stretching and limbo.

A parachute activity straight out of gym class.

“Goofy Says” like “Simon Says”.

If you fill up the “Goofy Game Machine” a dance party starts.

It’s a good thing Disney did this or people might not think they are trying very hard to compete with Epic Universe.

That’s it.

Here is a video from Laughing Place.

It’s not surprising given Warren’s appearance in the aforementioned Britain’s Greatest Ghost Stories And this fear flick too!

Review: Marco Brambilla’s ‘Demolition Man’ on Arrow Video Limited Edition 4K Uhd Blu-ray
Image
Take the toughest, most ruthless cop and pit him against the most brutally sadistic criminal in a near-future Los Angeles—a hellish vision of the city that presupposes that the 1992 riots never stopped—and you’ve got a quintessential early-’90s Hollywood action film setup. Marco Brambilla’s Demolition Man starts in 1996, but after John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone) and Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) are frozen in a cryogenic prison after a deadly square-off, they awaken again in 2032, only to be greeted by a sanitized, peaceful “utopia” in which swearing, smoking, meat-eating, “gasoline, uneducational toys, and anything spicy” have been banned.

With the population effectively neutered, even the cops have been reduced to enforcing petty tickets, mere shells of their former hyper-violent selves. “We’re police officers. We’re not trained to handle this kind of violence,” Rob Schneider’s Erwin asserts upon seeing the freshly unfrozen Simon take out six cops who are armed,...

Why Jimmy Smits Left NYPD Blue (Despite Being Nominated For 5 Emmys)
Image
Playing the beloved character of Bobby Simone to great acclaim, there is still some question as to why Jimmy Smits left NYPD Blue. NYPD Blue is ranked high among the best cop shows of all time, and its attention to detail, gritty storytelling, and across-the-board top-notch performances have made it stand out among a packed field of police procedurals. Its mature themes have kept it in the pop culture consciousness long after it ended in 2005. One of the most enduring characters on the show was Detective Bobby Simone, played by Jimmy Smits.

Bobby Simone first appeared on NYPD Blue in season 2, episode 5, "Simon Says", immediately making an impression. Initially a police commissioner's driver, the detective quickly proves his abilities, and his street smarts and empathy earned him love from fans and critics, with six Emmy nominations over his run on the show and one Golden Globe win. This only made...

Remember All That Silly Bubblegum Pop from the Sixties? A New Box Set Does
Image
There’s a moment on Pour a Little Sugar on It: The Chewy Chewy Sounds of American Bubblegum 1966-1971, a new box set, that pretty much captures everything wonderfully inane about one of pop’s most derided genres. Start with the beyond-silly name of the band, the Kasenetz-Katz Singing Orchestral Circus, which wasn’t even a real group. Then revel in the song, “Quick Joey Small (Run Joey Run),” a crude, minimalist stomp about a convict who escapes prison after his girlfriend sends him “a file baked inside a fudge cake.

Cheers' Writers Ran Into Some Trouble When Crafting John Cleese's Cameo Episode
Image
The current generation will likely know John Cleese for his Tweets and his Gb News project "The Dinosaur Hour," which recently saw him trading witticisms with Stephen Fry in a 12th-century castle for some reason. Which is a shame because at one time he was pretty much unanimously viewed as a British national treasure and comedy great. So much so that when he dropped in on the "Cheers" crowd back in the '80s, he basically caused the whole show to buckle under the weight of his reputation, at least until the writers managed to compose themselves enough to get his episode back on track.

Appearing in the season 5 installment "Simon Says," Cleese played Dr. Simon Finch-Royce, a renowned marriage counselor and friend of Kelsey Grammer's Frasier Crane, who at one time attended Oxford with the distinguished doctor. Presumably, in the "Cheers"-verse, Finch-Royce was also a friend of Alan Cornwall,...

Legacy (2023)
Rp Boo Legacy Volume 2 Review: Taking Pleasure in Chaos
Legacy (2023)
Electronic musician and producer Rp Boo was already in his 40s when his debut album, Legacy, dropped in 2013, preceded by more than a decade of singles which helped establish Chicago’s footwork genre. Legacy Volume 2 continues the curation of his output from that period, gathering previously unreleased tracks recorded between 2002 and 2007.

Rather than using digital software, Boo constructs his music entirely with old-fashioned equipment: a Roland drum machine and Akai Mpc sampler. Some of the samples are immediately recognizable: “UnderD-Stat” bites the theme from the ’60s animated TV series Underdog, while “Heavy Heat” uses the same horns, originally taken from Ifukube Akira’s theme from Godzilla vs. Mothra, as Pharoahe Monch’s 1999 classic “Simon Says.”

Central to Boo’s process is his merging of samples in dense and abrasive ways, with individual sounds having an exponential effect. Instead of sticking to a steady rhythm during each track, Boo loops vocal...

Lethal Weapon 4: Is It The Worst Film In The Franchise?
Image
Intro: After the success of Lethal Weapon 3, it was a given there would be a fourth film in the franchise. But the next sequel proved to be surprisingly difficult to get into production. Until Warner Bros. realized they were heading into 1998 without a surefire summer hit on their hands. They gave Lethal Weapon 4 the greenlight and the movie was thrown together in a mad scramble. Twenty-five years later, it’s time to look back at the results of that rush job in this episode of Revisited.

Set-up: With a global box office haul of three hundred and twenty million dollars, Lethal Weapon 3 wasn’t just the biggest hit of the franchise. The 1992 release was considered to be the most profitable film in Warner Bros. history. So studio executives and producer Joel Silver immediately started looking forward to Lethal Weapon 4. Less than a year after Part 3 reached theatres,...

Watch: Lost Beaver Unknowingly Becomes the Leader of 150 Cows
Blake Lively in Evil Twins (2006)
Sheep get a bad rap for being unquestioning followers, but today it’s cows who are acting like the real sheep.

A herd of cattle in Saskatchewan, Canada, must be open to any kind of leader, because rancher Adrienne Ivey caught them taking cues from a lost beaver.

On Friday, the wood-chucker wandered onto the herd’s land and started poking around. Apparently desperate for some direction, the 150 cows gathered around the beaver and started a one-sided game of Simon Says. Whatever the beaver did, the cattle followed — at a respectful 3-foot distance, according to The Telegraph.

Ivey captured the...

‘The Walking Dead’ Review: Everyone Gets a Chance To Bury The Hatchet In ‘The Other Side’
Morgan Murphy in New York Stand-Up Show (2010)
Last Week’S Review: ‘Bury Me Here’ Pushes Morgan to the Breaking Point

[Spoilers follow for “The Walking Dead” Season 7, Episode 14, “The Other Side.”]

Whose Episode Is It?

We’re back at the Hilltop, which means it’s time to see if Sasha and Rosita can pull off their attempt to assassinate Negan. Meanwhile, the Saviors drop by unexpectedly, giving Maggie and Daryl a chance for a heart-to-heart, and giving Gregory a chance to grovel to Simon, The Only Savior That Matters. The episode seems mostly to be an excuse to give Rosita some semblance of character development,

something she’s been sorely lacking over her four seasons on the show. It’s also mostly set-up for a cliffhanger to lead us into the final two episodes. It’s serviceable on both counts.

A Shred of Humanity

The Hilltop rebellion seems to be in full swing, as Sasha and Maggie train the townspeople in self-defense (in the woods, away from Gregory...

‘It’s Not Yet Dark’ Review: The Moving Portrait Of a Man Who Made a Movie With Als — Sundance 2017
Simon Fitzmaurice
For some filmmakers, Sundance is a life-changing experience — for Simon Fitzmaurice, the tragedy is that it was. A strapping, kind-hearted Irish lad who grew into an athletic build that seemed to belie his artistic spirit, he was 34 when Sundance selected his short, “The Sound of People,” for the fest’s 2007 edition. Reluctantly leaving his pregnant wife at home, Simon followed his dreams to the mountains of Utah. It was there, as Simon walked down Park City’s picturesque main drag, visions of a career behind the camera projecting against the walls of his imagination, that he first noticed the pain that would signal his diagnosis with Als.

In time, Simon would find a way to rationalize why his symptoms kicked in at the height of his happiness. In his memoir, which he wrote with the help of a system that tracked his pupils’ movement along a digital keyboard, Simon observed...

Collateral Beauty movie review: there is no beauty in this
MaryAnn’s quick take… Appalling and sadistic. How can anyone who is not a sociopath look at this horrible attempt at feel-good fantasy and say, “This is fine, this is healthy”? I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

My god, it’s like we’re living not only in the darkest timeline but in the mirror universe, the one where there is no pity or mercy and the central driving human emotion is self-serving cruelty. This holiday season, Hollywood has given us the creepy, rapey Passengers to serve as a grand romance, and it has given us the sadistic Collateral Beauty to serve as a feel-good fantasy. What has become of us? It cannot bode any good thing about the current state of humanity that the manufacturer and reflector of our sweeping cultural hopes and dreams...

George Michael
George Michael Tributed as 'Genius' and 'Class Act' by Eli Stone Creators
George Michael
Eli Stone creators Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim each remembered George Michael and his contributions to the ABC series, shortly after news broke that the pop icon had passed away on Sunday morning at age 53.

RelatedPop Star George Michael Dead at 53

Starring Jonny Lee Miller as a San Francisco lawyer, Eli Stone ran for two short seasons (starting in January 2008) and often named episodes after Michael’s songs, as well as used his music as an “internal soundtrack” for the hallucination-prone title character.

“I’ve only witnessed true genius a few times in my life,” Berlanti shared on Twitter late Sunday.

Pop Star George Michael Dead at 53
George Michael
Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter George Michael “passed away peacefully at home” in Goring in Oxfordshire on Sunday, his publicist told the BBC. He was 53.

Michael’s manager told the AP the cause of death was heart failure. A statement from his publicist said, “There will be no further comment at this stage.”

Born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou in East Finchley, London, Michael rose to fame at age 18 as half of the singing duo Wham!, partnering with longtime friend Andrew Ridgeley to sell more than 25 million albums worldwide from 1982 to 1986. ‘The Walking Dead’ Review: ‘Go Getters’ Gives Maggie a Reason to Live
Andrew Lincoln in The Walking Dead (2010)
Last Week’S Review: ‘The Walking Dead’ Review: ‘Service’ Proves The Power of the Saviors

Whose Episode Is It?

“Go Getters” is set at the Hilltop, and serves to establish the regular cast whenever we check in there again. Maggie and Sasha have arrived safely, plus there’s Jesus and the Hilltop’s slimy leader, Gregory. Maggie, still mourning for Glenn, seeks to find new purpose, and Sasha is determined to help her. (Sasha, having worked through her own significant grief issues in seasons past, knows that Maggie is going through.) Meanwhile, Jesus knows that Gregory is a terrible leader, but can’t quite find it in himself to depose him. Enid also wishes to join the Hilltop to be with Maggie, and Carl accompanies her on her journey for his own purposes. While “Go Getters” offers several familiar sights (yes, we get our third Savior collection over the past...

Noel Gallagher
They're Both Right: Oasis Doc Director Talks Liam and Noel
Noel Gallagher
Even in the aftermath of an acrimonious breakup, the biggest British rock band since the Beatles check yet another box off in the legendary band to-do list with Oasis: Supersonic. The new documentary, now playing in a limited run in U.S. theaters, is every bit as worthy as some of the greatest rock docs of all time, from Julien Temple's Sex Pistols chronicle The Filth and the Fury to Joe Berlinger and the late Bruce Sinofsky's epic Metallica examination, Some Kind of Monster.

Focused solely on the meteoric rise that saw the scrappy Manchester disciples of Lennon-McCartney, Stone Roses, and the Smiths go from pubs to a pair of historic concerts at Knebworth that saw one in twenty (!) British citizens apply for tickets, Supersonic is as kinetic, transcendental and combustive as the two brothers at the band's center.

The charm and bravado of impossibly charismatic frontman Liam...

The Song Of Seven: Chapter 1 – Overture Review
Enlightened Games has entered the world of indie gaming with The Song of Seven: Chapter 1 – Overture, the Kickstarter-funded first instalment in what’s intended to be a five-part fantasy story. Their stated goal with the game was to retain the aspects many associate with classic point-and-click adventures, and having now spent a considerable amount of time with it, I can say that parts of it definitely do incorporate some of the genre’s most iconic elements. It’s not a complete home run, as there are various issues when it comes to presentation and pacing, but there’s still enough reason for longtime fans of these types of games to give it a chance.

The game takes place in the fantasy land of Pria, and has players control a kind but timid village boy named Kiba, who has spent his whole life confined within his town’s fences thanks to...

Quantico Recap: The Parent Trap
So I’m going to flat-out say it: Shelby’s parents on Quantico are terrible, no-good monster people.

What kind of mother or father would leave their child to assume they’d been killed in one of the worst terrorist attacks in American history? And then, once they pop up alive again, shake said child down for thousands?

Horrible (yet pretty) people, that’s who. And they pull another terrible con on Shelby in this week’s episode. Another question related to the hour: If Alex and Drew have sex in the forest, does anyone care? Read on for the highlights of “Care.

Quantico Recap: No Country for Uncontrolled Men
Liam Payne
Compartmentalizing, thy name is Alex Parrish.

The Quantico FBI agent who ended last week’s episode screaming and crying so hard Ryan thought she might wanna spend a little time in a psych ward has — apparently — bounced back from watching her colleague and former classmate Natalie get blown up in a fiery conflagration. And with her stuff seemingly together, Alex spends most of this week’s hour efficiently reeling one friend back in at the same time she pushes another one away.

What Lies in The Shallows? First Trailer
Sony Pictures Entertainment has debuted the first trailer for Jaume Collet-Serra's (Orphan) The Shallows. Influenced by Spielberg's Jaws (1975), the first clip shows actress Blake Lively as Mia, trapped in the shoals. The limp tagline: "what was once in the deep is now in the shallows" focuses the film on the shark and that huge fish makes it appearance in the film's first trailer. Looking back, astute horror fans will remember that Lively had her start in horror films, with Simon Says (2006). This latest thriller puts Lively more front and center. And, fans of film can see more of Lively and the shark in this exciting clip. Much of the film's story can be seen in the trailer. However, Nancy or Mia (depending on your source) is trapped on a rocky outcrop, after being injured while surfing. Her blood attracts a hungry beast. With the shore just 200 yards away,...

10 Cloverfield Lane movie review: the monsters women have to deal with
A marvelous little movie: compact, efficient, almost unbearably intense, smartly (perhaps accidentally) feminist. A glorious treat of pulp genre fun. I’m “biast” (pro): loved Cloverfield, love Mary Elizabeth Winstead

I’m “biast” (con): wary of the forced franchise concept

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Fans of movies generally don’t want to hear the sort of thing we started hearing about 10 Cloverfield Lane when its existence first became known a few months ago: that producer J.J. Abrams took a spec script called The Cellar that had been floating around for a while and rejigged it into a movie that would maybe kinda work as a sequel to 2008’s Cloverfield (on which he also served as producer). This sounds like the worst sort of Hollywood folly: bad enough when movies are created as franchise cutouts, but now they’re shoving preexisting stories into franchise...

The Guest Review
After powering through The Guest and The Room Three in succession, the parallels between these first-person puzzle adventures became effortless to draw. They share similar foibles, like protagonists whose identities and occupations are secondary to the mystery at large, and that each title seems something of a misnomer. The Room (the first one) plants players in a space barren of detail, apart from an elaborate and ornate box, while The Guest thinks nothing of the player as a visitor in its world. The hotel suite that somebody traps you in ‒ a setting burdened with riddles ‒ establishes itself as the star instead.

The Guest replicates the inherent technology of 1986, and so I pictured my lodgings as a time capsule, combing corners of the room for finer details beyond puzzle solutions. A record player replaces surround sound stereos, a projector fills in for modern cameras, and a typewriter gets more love than any computer.

Bruce Willis in Piège de cristal (1988)
Last week, a new report surfaced that Die Hard 6 is moving forward, which will be set both in the 1970s and in the present day, giving fans both a prequel and a sequel at the same time. Bruce Willis will come back as iconic NYPD cop John McClane for the present day scenes, with a younger actor being sought to play the 1970s version of the beloved character. The scenes that take place in 1979 will be set 10 years before the events of the original Die Hard. While attending the red carpet premiere of Rock the Kasbah, Bruce Willis shed some new light on Die Hard 6, revealing he's excited to tell John McClane's origin story.

The X Factor's Anton Stephans: 'I'm going to work really hard at not looking like a crazy axe man'
The X Factor star Anton Stephans has joked that he'll work on not looking "crazy" after Simon Cowell warned him about his facial expressions.

Anton - who will head to Simon's Judges Houses after winning a seat in the "incredibly terrifying" Six Chair Challenge - joked about Simon being used to people with Botox when he was told he makes bizarre faces when he sings.

"I didn't get sassy with Simon!" he joked to Digital Spy and others. "But I think that's true – I think sometimes if you are in an environment where things are one way, that can become your norm and if you're not and if you're faced with that suddenly, it can be different and strange to you.

"It doesn't make it bad, it just makes it different. But I also take on board what he said, because he's an incredibly smart man and if he says,...
