25 Underrated Movies On Netflix From The 2000s
Image
The 2000s had a diverse range of movies, including underrated gems like "The One," an early look at the concept of the multiverse starring Jet Li. "Waist Deep" may have disappeared into obscurity, but it showcases Tyrese Gibson's dramatic range and features pulse-pounding sequences. While "Doom" received negative reviews, it offers schlocky fun, a dark aesthetic, and Dwayne Johnson in a rare villainous role.

Netflix has become known for its exclusive series and $200 million action movies, but there are tons of underrated 2000s movies to discover on the platform that long predate Netflix originals. The streamer is home to huge releases such as The Gray Man and Stranger Things, but Netflix has such an extensive back catalog that includes movies that would never show up on a subscriber's homepage, whether it's an absurd animated movie or a cult crime drama. While Netflix houses movies from every decade, it's movies...

It’s safe to say that the Covid content drought is just about over. Netflix prides itself on being the most, let’s say, prolific streaming service in the game. With its list of new releases for May 2021 it’s once again revealing why.

There is a lot going on for Netflix this month and it all starts with some high profile original films. Zack Snyder’s latest zombie effort Army of the Dead premieres on May 21. That will be preceded by Monster, the adaptation of Walter Dean Myers’ classic YA book, on May 7 and Amy Adams Rear Window-esque The Woman in the Window on May 14.

D’Mile Almost Quit Music. Now He’s Up for Multiple Grammys
A few years ago, the producer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist Dernst Emile II, known as D’Mile, was on the verge of quitting the music business. He was writing and producing at the highest levels, and had been for more than a decade, landing credits on albums from Janet Jackson, Justin Bieber, Usher, and more. He was still frustrated.

“You put in so much work, and it doesn’t seem like anything is paying off — not even money-wise, just period,” D’Mile explains. “There were a lot of letdowns. A lot of stuff that I worked on,...

The Academy Invites 271 New Members for 2014
The Academy has announced the new class of invited members for 2014 and, as is typical, many of which are among last year's nominees, which includes Barkhad Abdi, Michael Fassbender, Sally Hawkins, Mads Mikkelsen, Lupita Nyong'o and June Squibb in the Actors branch not to mention curious additions such as Josh Hutcherson, Rob Riggle and Jason Statham, but, okay. The Directors branch adds Jay and Mark Duplass along with Jean-Marc Vallee, Denis Villeneuve and Thomas Vinterberg. I didn't do an immediate tally of male to female additions or other demographics, but at first glance it seems to be a wide spread batch of new additions on all fronts. The Academy is also clearly attempting to aggressively bump up the demographics as this is the second year in a row where they have added a large number of new members, well over the average of 133 new members from 2004 to 2012. As far as...

Gravity (2013)
Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong'o among 271 Academy invitees
Gravity (2013)
Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong’o of 12 Years a Slave were two of the 271 artists and industry leaders invited to become members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which determines nominations and winners at the annual Oscars. The entire list of Academy membership—which numbers about 6,000—isn’t public information so the annual invitation list is often the best indication of the artists involved in the prestigious awards process. It’s worth noting that invitations need to be accepted in order for artists to become members; some artists, like two-time Best Actor winner Sean Penn, have declined membership over the years.

Gravity (2013)
Josh Hutcherson, Lupita Nyong'o, Pharrell and 268 others invited to join the Academy
Gravity (2013)
Pop quiz: What do Chris Rock, Claire Denis, Eddie Vedder and Josh Hutcherson all have in common? Answer: They could all be Oscar voters very soon. The annual Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences invitation list always makes for interesting reading, shedding light on just how large and far-reaching the group's membership is -- or could be, depending on who accepts their invitations. This year, 271 individuals have been asked to join AMPAS, meaning every one of them could contribute to next year's Academy Awards balloting -- and it's as diverse a list as they've ever assembled. Think the Academy consists entirely of fusty retired white dudes? Not if recent Best Original Song nominee Pharrell Williams takes them up on their offer. Think it's all just a Hollywood insiders' game? Not if French arthouse titans Chantal Akerman and Olivier Assayas join the party. It's a list that subverts expectation at every turn.

Acoustic Version of ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2′ Soundtrack Song ‘Speak Up’ from Pop Etc
Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Robert Pattinson in Twilight: Chapitre 4 - Révélation, 1ère partie (2011)
Judging by the very positive reaction Twilight fans had to the new music video for Pop Etc’s song, ‘Speak Up’ from the Breaking Dawn – Part 2 soundtrack, it’s a good bet that this new acoustic version of that very same song will also be a hit. Enjoy the gorgeous, stripped down song below:

All my love is around me

Like virgins clean today

Waist deep in the water

Pushing my body away

A wall makes me go

To pull past to me

Oh how many drops can you squeeze out to explain

What happened Monday?

Here one of them stay behind

And tell me from afar

I saw how I slither

Like colors in the dark

But when dark kisses me

I was half a world away

It seems shorty is my bred

As I turn to say

[Chorus]

When we’ll meet another way

You won’t recognize my face

When we’ll meet one way

You’re nothing, you won’t

You won’t speak up, speak up, speak up

[repeat chorus]

And one day it suits me

The next it bleeds me dry

It plays out like you’re out of time

Before the morning light

How beautiful it was to be anything at all

But somehow it strikes me

That time can’t beat all

[repeat chorus x 2]

You won’t speak up, speak up

You won’t speak up, speak up

You won’t speak up, speak up

Q&A: Tyrese Gibson on 'Fast Five' and Fast Cars
Tyrese Gibson is a formidable triple threat. The 32-year-old actor-rapper-author worked as a model and MTV VJ before he started putting out albums in 1998; from there he transitioned easily into films, where his chiseled features carved up the scenery in movies like "2 Fast 2 Furious," "Four Brothers," "Flight of the Phoenix," "Waist Deep," "Annapolis" and, more recently, "Death Race" and "Legion." He also starred in all three "Transformers" movies as Usaf Sgt. Robert Epps.

Gibson returned as Roman Pearce for this year's "Fast Five," the hit fourth sequel to "The Fast and the Furious" that arrives on DVD and Blu-ray October 4. We got the fast-moving multi-hyphenate to take five and give us the 411 on his return to the franchise, what he speeds around in off-screen, and what he can tell us about his new book and first album since 2006.

"2 Fast 2 Furious" was back in 2003. After almost eight years, did you ever...

Dr. Dre Will Narrate Game's Entire R.E.D. Album
On 'RapFix Live,' Game explains his favorite track, 'Good, Bad, Ugly.'

By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway

Game knows a thing or two about movies. Though he is first regarded for his skills on the mic, the L.A. Mc starred in flicks like "Waist Deep" and the straight-to-dvd "Belly 2." Seems like he hasn't rid himself of the acting, because on Wednesday's "RapFix Live," Game told MTV News' Sway Calloway that his upcoming The R.E.D. Album has a cinematic feel.

He then went on to reveal another nice nugget about the LP: "The album is real theatrical; it's a movie," he said. "And it's narrated by Dr. Dre — the entire album."

On the set of his "Pot of Gold" video in July, Game announced that Dre would be rapping on the album, and last week, "Drug...

Brittany Murphy’s last film
It may have been not much a surprise with the news earlier today of the death of actress Brittany Murphy from a heart attack at only 32 years of age. Rumors about her drug abuse and anorexia had been swirling about her for years. Furthermore her erratic behavior on recent films had taken a toll on her career. She had been replaced as the female lead on the thriller The Caller just earlier this month to due her reported “disruptions” on the set, and a few months earlier, after she had been cast by Sylvester Stallone on his mercenary action film The Expendables, Stallone had written her part completely out of the film. However she did manage to complete one last film before her death, the independent horror film Something Wicked. What is noteworthy about the film, aside from it being her last film project, is because the film was also...

Has The A-Team’s B.A. Baracus Been Cast?
Arguably the most difficult role to cast in The A-Team is B.A. Baracus. Why? Mr T is such an iconic personality, who would want to try and fill those boots?

Well Blackfilm.com have claimed to know exactly who wants to fill those boots - The Game! According to the site:

While casting is underway for the big screen adaptation on the long running TV series, ‘The A-Team,’ Blackfilm.com has exclusively learned that rapper The Game is being considered for the role of B.A Baracus, which was originated by Mr. T on the television show.

Online buzz has it that the role was going to another rapper-turned-actor, Common, but with his recent casting opposite Queen Latifah in ‘Just Right,’ he may not finish filming before ‘The A-Team’ get rolling in August. Other possible candidates have included Ice Cube and mixed martial arts fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

Interesting enough,...

Will The Game Play B.A. Baracus in 'The A-Team'?
It's been previously speculated that Tyrese and Common were both in the running to join the cast of director Joe Carnahan's A-Team movie as BA Baracus, the role originated by Mr. T.

Common was recently cast opposite Queen Latifah in Just Right, and thus may not finish filming before The A-Team is due to begin production in August. BlackFilm is now claiming to have exclusively learned that Carnaham may end up giving the part to rapper The Game, who had a violent dispute with 50 Cent in 2005 and was sentenced to two months in jail last year for weapons charges.

Interestingly, The Game has previously starred with Tyrese in Waist Deep and with Common in Street Kings.

Meanwhile, Liam Neeson remains in negotiations to star as Hannibal Smith, while Bradley Cooper remains favored to play Templeton "Faceman" Peck.

The production will set up here in Vancouver later this month, while...

The Game to Play B.A. Baracus in 'A-Team'?
Set the bar low enough, and it can only be exceeded. That's how I feel about the upcoming big-screen version of The A-Team, a 80s television series entirely beholden to the staid formula of the day and ripe for reinvention. I didn't hate the series so much as I found it routinely mediocre. My colleague Monika Bartyzel loved the series as a kid, yet still questioned the casting choices that were being entertained: Liam Neeson as Hannibal? Bradley Cooper as Face? Adding fuel to the fire, rapper The Game is being considered to play the role of B.A. Baracus, according to blackfilm.com, which quotes "a very highly reliable source in the entertainment industry."

For me, the only thing that made The A-Team watchable was the bantering between the characters, and the choices so far all indicate that director Joe Carnahan is aiming for a more straightforward action picture,...

The Game is B.A. in ‘The A-Team’?
Coming off of news about a month ago that Bradley Cooper was joining the ‘Team’ as Templeton “Faceman” Peck, and then word that Liam Neeson was joining as Col. John “Hannibal” Smith, it looks like rapper The Game is in “serious consideration” to take on the role of B.A. Baracus, joining Joe Carnahan’s cast in what is shaping up to be an interesting film.

According to Blackfilm.com, who has the exclusive, they say that The Game (real name Jayceon Taylor) is being seriously considered for the role, and will be going head-to-head with other potentials like Common, Ice Cube, and mixed martial artist Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. It looks like the role once portrayed by Mr. T is shaping up to be quite a battle of rappers, which can only help the film’s publicity.

As of today, The Game has only a handful of on-screen credits, ranging...

Rapper The Game To Play B.A. Baracus In The A-Team?
There’s been a lot of casting rumors flying around about the upcoming A-Team movie. The only two castings that have been confirmed so far are Liam Neeson and Bradley Cooper (playing Hannibal and Faceman, respectively). But probably the biggest role of interest (and the source of most of the A-Team rumors), is that of B.A. Baracus, the character made famous in the The A-Team tv show by Mr. T.

For some bizarre reason unknown to me (and I’m sure everyone else on the face of the Earth), rappers have been the rumored candidates to play B.A. (Ice Cube and Common were notable ones that turned out to be false).

Sadly, the rapper/B.A. Baracus rumors continue…

Blackfilm is reporting as an exclusive from, “a very highly reliable source in the entertainment industry,” that the rapper known as The Game is currently being considered for the role of B.

The role was originally played by Mr. T on the TV show. If he lands the role, he would join Liam Neeson, who plays John "Hannibal" Smith, and Bradley Cooper, who is taking on the role of Lt. Rapper 'The Game' Might Be The A-Team's B.A. Baracus?
I don't know why everyone is so anxious to find out casting on Joe Carnahan's The A-Team. This isn't the first time we've heard rumors about who might be playing the contemporary B.A Baracus. At one point it was rapper-turned actor Common who had emerged as the frontrunner. Now, according to our friend Wilson at BlackFilm.com, another rapper-turned-actor is being considered - The Game. I'm not sure where they even got this scoop, but they do mention that other possible candidates include Ice Cube and Mma fighter Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. So it doesn't look like The Game has been given this role just yet. The Game, also known as Jayceon Terrell Taylor, made his acting debut opposite Tyrese Gibson in Waist Deep in 2006. He also appeared alongside of Common in Street Kings but hasn't done much other acting. Okay, so here's the thing, I know he's not the greatest actor,...

The Game, Potential B.A. Depicter in 'The A-Team'
Casting is underway for the big screen adaptation of '80s TV series "The A-Team", and The Game's name has been thrown as one of the potential cast members. According to Black Film, the 29-year-old rapper who has received two Grammy nominations is among the leading candidates to take on the role of B.A. Baracus.

If he secures the part originated by Mr. T on the television show, it is plausible that he will share screen with other potential actors, Liam Neeson, who is rumored to star as John "Hannibal" Smith, and Bradley Cooper who is linked to Lt. The Game In Talks To Play B.A. Baracus in The A-Team?
When John Singleton was developing an A-Team movie, he was talking to Ice Cube about playing B.A. Baracus. A year and a half later, Joe Carnahan has since been brought on board to get the project started, and BlackFilm is reporting that a new rapper has now become the front-runner for the mo-hawked soldier of fortune role originally played by Mr. T in the television series. The Game. The 29-year-old Grammy nominated rapper made his big screen debut in the not-well-received 2006 action-drama Waist Deep. He later had a small role in Street Kings. The announced cast includes Liam Neeson as John "Hannibal" Smith and Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Pack. For some reason I'm really not interested in an A-Team movie, which probably stems from my dislike for the series as a child. Also, I just think the show only worked in Regan-era (let's not get political...) But...

Listen: Christian Bale Goes American Psycho on Poor Cinematographer
Well if they ever decide to stage a sequel to Anger Management, I'd personally like to nominate Mr. Christian Bale to star. In a new piece of leaked foul-mouthed audio, Bale absolutely Goes Off on some dude for walking where he wasn't supposed to and distracting the talent during a scene. Variety is reporting that, after more than two months of negotiations, it's now official that Relativity Media will buy Rogue Pictures from Universal Pictures for roughly $150 million.

Stephen King Picks 'Dark Knight' as Best Film of 2008
Last time we checked in on Stephen King's ten favorite films of the year, it was 2006 and we found titles like Waist Deep (?) and Snakes on a Plane. Okay, so maybe the legendary author didn't watch many films that year -- but here we are two years later, King once again dished out a top ten for Entertainment Weekly, and so maybe he's managed to see a bit more. Check out King's list below, with brief quotes from him for each -- then read the rest over at EW.

1. The Dark Knight -- "The best superhero movie ever. This is to cape-and-tights movies what Godfather II was to the gangster movie: a genre-defining event."

2. Slumdog Millionaire -- "It's been years since the movies have produced such an affecting story about the power of friendship."

3. Wall-e -- "I don't think it deserves a Best Picture Academy Award, but it certainly deserves to be nominated.

Trailer Trash: Waist Deep
  • Waist Deep - Rogue Pictures Waist deep in doo-doo is what this is. Modern Day Crapfest: The gist (as I understand it): main character, an ex-con, lets a few thugs and a tramp dame carjack him and kidnap his son, said main character starts robbing banks to get money for ransom to get kid back, with said whore dame in tow, with the worst rapper in history The Game thrown into the mix. Sounds like a winner to me. Are they seriously robbing banks in their goddamn civvies? Iâ€.m already pissed off here. So this jerk-off gas station attendant refers to Tyrese Gibson and Meagan Goodâ€.s characters as modern day Bonnie & Clyde. Really? Does that mean that just a week ago there was another bad guy/girl bank robbing duo? Doesnâ€.t he mean either â€.Youâ€.re the new Bonnie & Clyde!â€., or â€.Youâ
