Movie studio Lionsgate has acquired the domestic distribution rights to Guy Ritchie's yet-to-be-titled action movie, which is about to wrap principal photography in Spain. The film's star-studded cast includes Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Eiza González.

Per Deadline, Ritchie is producing the movie alongside Ivan Atkinson and John Friedberg, whom he worked with on The Covenant. Lionsgate had previously gained the domestic rights to Ritchie's upcoming World War II movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. The filmmaker expressed his delight at continuing his partnership with the studio, "We are thrilled to once again be partnering with the entire Lionsgate team, whose passion and ambition for the film are very clear," he said. "We are excited to extend and build on our relationship with Joe, Adam, Nathan, and Charlotte to bring the film to audiences across the U.S."

Exclusive: In a lucrative deal, Lionsgate has landed domestic distribution rights to Guy Ritchie’s (Sherlock Holmes) next project, which remains untitled, as principal photography wraps in Spain this week.

Lionsgate had previously picked up domestic rights to Ritchie’s upcoming World War II movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

The new action film, whose plot is being kept under wraps, sees Ritchie reteaming with Jake Gyllenhaal (Spider-Man: Far From Home), who played the lead role in Ritchie’s recent war movie The Covenant, as well as Henry Cavill (Mission: Impossible – Fallout) and Eiza González (Baby Driver), both of whom star in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

The Saul Zaentz Company has sold its film library, which also includes titles such as The Mosquito Coast, The Unbearable Lightness of Being and Wattstax, to Teatro della Pace Films.

The films are staying in the family, though, as Teatro della Pace is owned by Zaentz’s nephew, producer Paul Zaentz. Acf Investment Bank advised The Saul Zaentz Company on the deal alongside Arnold & Porter as legal advisers.

It comes three months after The Saul Zaentz Company sold the rights to The Lord of the Rings, via its Middle-Earth Enterprises, to Sweden’s Embracer for nearly $400M. Those rights included motion picture, video game, board game, merchandising, theme parks and stage production rights relating to the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit franchises.

Leading Barcelona production-distribution company Filmax has picked up the international rights to “Ama,” the directorial debut of Spain’s Julia de Paz Solvas. The mother-daughter drama bowed at Spain’s 24th Malaga Film Festival this week, where it plays in official competition. Filmax releases the feature theatrically in Spain on July 16.

Produced by La Dalia Films, “Ama” follows a mother, Pepa, and her six-year-old daughter, Leila, who find themselves homeless after they are kicked out from where they were living. Cast adrift, they struggle to find shelter but in the process, form a tight bond that was virtually non-existent before that.

This year, the motion picture academy achieved its five-year goal of doubling the number of women among its membership. In all, 819 film professionals were invited to become part of the organization that hands out the Oscars. Oscar-winning British costume designer Yvonne Blake, has died in Madrid. She suffered a stroke in January. Manchester-born Blake, who lived in Spain, designed costumes including Christopher Reeve's original Superman outfit and worked on films including Jesus Christ Superstar, The Three Musketeers and, more recently, Goya's Ghosts.

She won an Academy Award for the costume design, alongside Antonio Castillo, for Franklin Schaffner's Nicholas and Alexandra.

In 2014, Blake won the Woman in Cinema award at Gijon Film Festival. Accepting the honour, she lamented the chauvinism that was still rife in the industry, saying: "In the 21st century there are still men who treat women as they did 50 years ago - as if they were vases."
