The Looney Tunes have been entertaining us for nearly a century, yet in all that time, they’ve never had their own fully animated theatrical movie. Sure, they’ve appeared in hybrid movies like Space Jam and compilation films that cram old shorts together in new packaging, but a brand new, full-on cartoon movie has never been done — until now.
The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, which is set to be released today, tells the story of an alien invasion thwarted by Daffy Duck and Porky Pig (along with some help from Petunia Pig). Inspired by the classic Looney Tunes shorts of Bob Clampett, The Day the Earth Blew Up is a hilarious, gag-filled adventure that keeps the characters fresh, fun, and most of all, funny for its entire 91 minutes.

It's been just over 40 years since the rock-and-roll mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap altered the trajectory of comedy forever, and it's coming back in a big way. Bleecker Street has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the 1984 cult classic and is planning a nationwide U.S. theatrical release of a newly restored editionthis summer. It's a perfect compliment to the newly titled sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, which has an actual release date — Sep. 12, 2025. There's a new video teaser for it, and it looks like director Rob Reiner is ready to turn it up to 11, and beyond.
Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer reprise their iconic roles as the legendary heavy metal band Spinal Tap. Reiner returns as documentarian Martin “Marty” Dibergi, with cameos from music legends Elton John, Paul McCartney, and Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. Also appearing will be Paul Shaffer, Fran Drescher, Don Lake,...

Exclusive: Sacha Baron Cohen’s next film, an untitled scripted comedy, is being quietly shopped to distributors. The comedy was originally set at Universal, and none of the principals would comment. But is sounds like case of déjà vu. I’m referencing Baron Cohen’s Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. Fox turned the first Borat into big hit, but Baron Cohen needed the Borat sequel released before the 2020 presidential elections. And so the film moved to Amazon Studios, got released in October 2020 at the height of election season, and the picture was nominated for two Oscars.
This time, after Baron Cohen’s next project was delayed by the year of double strikes by SAG-AFTRA and the WGA — his last project was to revive his Ali G character in a standup tour — he is anxious for the next film to be released next year after missing the 2024 election season.

Concept art allegedly from Ironheart first did the rounds on social media in late 2022. The supposed leak contained three different designs for Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen's take on Mephisto, all of which were very punk rock-inspired.
While Cohen's villain is expected to be the one pulling The Hood's strings in Ironheart, there have been rumblings about him also factoring into Thunderbolts* (perhaps as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine's ally), Spider-Man 4, and even Avengers: Doomsday.
The only thing is, Cohen may not be playing Mephisto after all.
Making him the source of The Hood's powers seemed an easy way to finally bring a character into the MCU that fans once hoped would be a huge part of WandaVision. From there, the door would be open to Ghost Rider's introduction and so forth, and the Mephisto ball is one we've all run away with over the past few years.

Amazon Freevee's Jury Duty was the surprise hit of 2023. The show plunged a single unsuspecting participant, Ronald Gladden, into an entirely fake courtroom with actors and secret cameras filming the bonkers case. The series managed to maintain the secret for all eight episodes and kept viewers engaged to the very end, desperate to see Ronald's reaction to the ruse. You might think a show like that can only work once. But, the series has just been greenlit for a second season. Just don't expect to return to the courtroom.
Per Deadline,Jury Duty is returning for a second season, with the show's return moving in a completely new direction. 'But, now that people know a second season is coming, how will they maintain the mystery?' we hear you ask. Well, not to worry, because according to the report, the new season has already been shot and is currently in post-production.

It was challenging for Maria Bakalova to morph into Ivana Trump in The Apprentice, but the Creature Commandos and Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm star is suddenly jazzed about her costars in the film. Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong both nabbed Academy Award nominations for playing Donald Trump and Roy Cohn, respectively, in The Apprentice, the hot topic film that tracks Trump’s rise to power. Speaking with MovieWeb in a recent interview to promote her new film, O Horizon, Bakalova stated:
“I couldn't be more excited that the movie is going to be released again, because we had only a very small theatrical run [...] At the end of the day, I feel it's a very important film. It’s a dive into the individuality of the system, and that's something we need to explore. It's educational in a lot of ways.”
She went on to say that she’s “extremely happy and excited” for Stan.

Fans might know him as Cyclops and the Donut Lord — they may have even heard about him recently playing the President of the United States — but one man didn’t know he was part of the cast of the prank show Jury Duty.

James Marsden has been the heartthrob and even the president (in Hulu’s currently airing Dan Fogelman political thriller Paradise), but Jury Duty marked the first time the Emmy nominee played an exaggerated, asshole version of himself — something he said he felt bad about, especially given unsuspecting leading man (and victim) Ronald Gladden’s lack of awareness about it.
Appearing on a new episode of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast today, Marsden unpacked the behind-the-scenes stakes of the “risky high-wire act” Freevee show that captivated comedy fans based on its prank-adjacent premise: One man is duped into believing he is a member of a jury in a real court case, when, in actuality, he is surrounded by increasingly bizarre characters and scenarios.
Over the course of filming for three weeks, Marsden said he and his fellow actors became “actual friends [with Gladden] during it because he was such a good guy and fun to be around.

Rumor: Some Intriguing New Details About The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Mephisto Have Been Revealed
Concept art allegedly from Ironheart first did the rounds on social media in late 2022. The supposed leak contained three different designs for Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen's take on Mephisto, all of which were very punk rock.
We'd later get an artist's impression with something of a Lobo feel to it, though Gene Simmons and Kiss were clearly the main sources of inspiration for the McU's devil.
That Satanic Panic era of rock musicians often took their inspiration from devilish imagery, and it was fun to think Cohen's demon could be the basis for them in the MCU...or is perhaps just a fan of their music. Ultimately, real or fake, it did look like the sort of transformation the British actor would want to undergo rather than just portraying a stereotypical devil.

“We should have gone to Bora Bora like the Pattersons,” says Delores (Sarah Goldberg) in Bubble & Squeak, writer-director Evan Twohy’s feature debut. A quirky, prescriptively surreal comedy in the vein of the late Jeff Baena, with a hefty debt to the two Sacha Baron Cohen Borat movies, it’s a very Sundance kind of funny that goes all in on a very bizarre premise. If you go with it, it will take you all the way, but for those with a low tolerance for cheerfully madcap bonkersness, its lean 97 minutes may well seem like an eternity.
The pre-credit sequence very quickly sets the scene. Delores and her husband Declan (Himesh Patel) are sitting in a nondescript, steely-gray office room, where they have been waiting for well over an hour. The two Americans are on honeymoon, preferring to go “off the beaten track,” and their wanderlust has taken them to a strange,...

The Iron Curtain had already collapsed when Maria Bakalova was growing up in Bulgaria, but old sensibilities still lingered: as a girl she was discouraged from playing the “aggressive and muscular” electric guitar (she learned the flute instead) and life there was still largely circumscribed by national borders.
But Bakalova, who portrays the Czech-born Ivana Trump in “The Apprentice,” found avenues for expansion, in part, as a way of rebelling. “It didn’t feel right to be put in a box because of your gender,” says Bakalova, who burst on the scene with her Oscar-nominated performance in “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.” “Knowing I didn’t get a chance to pursue something had some impact on my development and maybe made me stronger and a bit more daring.”
Bakalova’s first path out was singing, and by age 11, she was traveling throughout Western Europe to competitions, much as Ivana Trump had gotten out via national ski teams.

A certain section of the audience loves to claim that the world is becoming too woke, yet the decline in the number of political satires and the growing toothlessness of this subgenre of comedy say otherwise. Charles Chaplin did The Great Dictator in 1940, literally one year after World War 2 began. Stanley Kubrick made Dr. Strangelove in 1964 to comment on the Cold War, which officially ended in 1991. Sacha Baron Cohen did The Dictator and Borat to berate America for its relentless war on Iraq, and so did Abhishek Sharma with Tere Bin Laden. Then there was Quentin Tarantino, who did Inglourious Basterds, where he imagined Hitler being killed at a movie theater in Paris. Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen did something similar in The Interview, except the subject of the explosive death was Kim Jong Un instead of Hitler. Soon after that, Armando Iannucci released The Death of Stalin, which is pretty self-explanatory,...

Pamela Anderson, the actor mostly famous for giving life to C.J. Parker on the TV drama Baywatch whose career is going through a renaissance of sorts lately, has a bone to pick with the Hulu miniseries Pam & Tommy. The show, which portrays Anderson and Tommy Lee's whirlwind romance and the theft and release of their sex tape, doesn't have Pamela's approval. In fact, she calls it "hurtful."

While many would have thought that showrunners and writers would involved Anderson, the actor actually wasn't involved at all, and she isn't quite happy with the miniseries' depiction of the event that...

Deadpool & Wolverine is the second highest-grossing movie of 2024, with $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office, but does that mean it should have a chance at an Academy Award? Franchise star, producer, and co-writer Ryan Reynolds thinks so and is making a case for it. As with every movie released in 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine is beginning its "For Your Consideration" campaign ahead of the upcoming 97th Academy Awards, whose nominees will be announced on Jan. 17, 2025.
While speaking with IndieWire, Reynolds explained why he believes Deadpool & Wolverine is worth consideration for an Academy Award, particularly Best Adapted Screenplay. Reynolds believes there is a genre bias against the film, not because it is a superhero movie but as a comedy, which many people dismiss as not being as important as dramatic fiction or that most of the movie was improvised. Where there's smoke, there's usually fire ... and, folks, it is scorching hot right now. While Kevin Feige has attempted to define the next overarching storyline in the aftermath of "Avengers: Endgame" and the conclusion of the Infinity Saga, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Sony Pictures have had to make similarly big decisions regarding the franchise's flagship character. Tom Holland's Spidey hasn't been seen on the big screen since the crossover-happy threequel "Spider-Man: No Way Home" back in 2021, leaving fans to wonder exactly how his next adventure would take shape. Last we heard, "Spider-Man 4" was set to do battle with Christopher Nolan's next blockbuster in July of 2026. But after saving the world in "Endgame" and taking on the multiverse in "No Way Home," perhaps the better question is which supervillain will he come up against next?

Pamela Anderson’s widely acclaimed new drama movie, The Last Showgirl, is the first movie of her entire 33-year acting career to earn a “fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola’s granddaughter Gia Coppola, The Last Showgirl stars Anderson as a veteran showgirl who has to plan for her future when her long-running Las Vegas show is abruptly canceled after 30 years. The Last Showgirl has earned Anderson her first ever Golden Globe nomination (and first nomination for a major acting award) for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.

The film student was named Todd Phillips, the musician was named Gg Allin and the artist was named John Wayne Gacy… who happens to be an infamous serial killer known for dressing like a clown. That’s right: the director of Joker got his start thanks to a real-life serial killing clown. Director Todd Phillips went on to bring us some of the most interesting and hilarious films of the past few decades. He was pumping out groundbreaking blockbusters left and right for years, surprising us all with classics like The Hangover and Joker and instantly disappointing us all with their sequels. Pamela Anderson returns to the screen in The Last Showgirl, and the trailer for the film has landed. Right here.
Pamela Anderson will always be indelibly intertwined with Baywatch, the campy drama in which she starred for five series between between 1992 and 1997, returning for a cameo in the 2017 feature film.
But she also ventured into other films too. She starred in cult superhero film Barb Wire in 1996, and she also had a memorable cameo in Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat. In fact, she was one of the few actors in on the gag where the titular character attempts to marry her by ensconcing her in a sack and carrying her out of her book signing.

Bridget Jones is back.
On Tuesday, Peacock released the first trailer for “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” the fourth film in the long-running romantic comedy series and the first since “Bridget Jones’s Baby” in 2016.
Things are different this time for Jones, and not just because this is the first film in the franchise that will bypass theaters entirely. As revealed in the “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” trailer, Jones’s husband, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), has died, leaving Jones a widowed mother of two young children. Things move apace from there, with several of her friends – including former flame Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) – suggesting Jones get back out there to reconnect with other potential mates, including a young man played by Leo Woodall (“The White Lotus”) and a more age-appropriate match in the form of a science teacher played by Chiwetel Ejiofor.

I attended my first Toronto International Film Festival in 2006. At a midnight screening on the city’s then-Ryerson University campus, Sacha Baron Cohen showed up — on a horse — for the premiere of Borat. Twenty minutes in, the projector broke. Michael Moore climbed over seats to try to fix it. “What on earth is happening here?” I remember thinking. Cohen then got up and did 45 minutes of stand-up — in character. The projector was never fixed. No one cared.
That was my introduction to awards season. The tuxedos? The champagne glasses? The stilted debate over which British actor best inhabits the royals drama and other supposed trappings of the season? Well, Ok, they were a part of it, too. But nearly two decades later, this Borat moment is the film-festival memory that sticks with me. A moviemaking wacko with a vision, adjusting on the fly when the winds weren’t blowing his way.

James Shani bet big on Ali Abbasi’s buzzy Donald Trump biopic The Apprentice. After a stint as a talent manager at Issa Rae’s Hoorae Media, the 36-year-old producer launched his own indie production and distribution company, Rich Spirit, earlier this year, raising a pool of capital for an initial three-film slate of edgy international titles with positive social messages. But instead of spreading his bets, Shani opted to spend the bulk of his capital by stepping up from the role of minority investor to full co-distributor of The Apprentice alongside Briarcliff Entertainment when he fully acquired the movie after it became mired in a lengthy dispute over final cut with its original backer, Kinematics.
In North America, The Apprentice opened below expectations in October with $1.6 million in its first weekend, but Shani says he still very much believes his bet was the best choice for his company’s strategic future.

Borat star Maria Bakalova will board a bus with Peter Mullan for the single-location thriller, No Way Off.
Veteran Scottish actor Peter Mullan is set to lead single location thriller No Way Off for Altitude, starring opposite Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm’s standout performer, Maria Bakalova.
Downton Abbey director Brian Kelly will make the film, based on a screenplay by Gaby Hill, who recently wrote crime thriller series We Hunt Together. Matthew James Wilkinson will produce for his Stigma Films banner.
The premise sounds, quite frankly, amazing: a single mother and her baby son find themselves trapped on a moving bus drvien by a mask-wearing maniac. Also, it’s set at Christmas.
The synopsis reads as follows:
Inspired by single-location thrillers such as The Shallows, Buried and Crawl, No Way Off is set on Christmas Eve and revolves around Laura, a young mother who waits at a bus stop with her infant son.

Of all the comedy subgenres, the political comedy is probably the hardest to nail down. What, exactly, constitutes a political comedy? Is it a movie set in the world of politics? It is just a movie that has political commentary? And what’s the difference between a political comedy and a political satire? Is one meaner in its humor than the other?
In order to make a list of the 20 best political comedies, I had to figure out answers to these questions. And that meant making some tough choices, like any good elected official. And what I decided was to be pretty strict in my definition of what counts. There are so many good films that are often called political comedies — Four Lions, Borat, numerous war movies — but for my purposes, a film had to feature politicians, world leaders or at the very least some folks who were running for something,...

So, you’ve watched The Dictator and discovered—or maybe rediscovered—your love for the absurdity and outlandishness of Sacha Baron Cohen. The British actor and comedian has a savvy set of satirical skills up his sleeve that he often sets loose in the real world. These encounters with unsuspecting people, however, reveal far more than just laughs. Cohen, when his methods work, is able to expose hidden biases, prejudices, and sometimes the bizarre underbelly of society.

If The Dictator’s lampooning on the absurdity of authoritarianism left you chuckling at its brazen wit, here’s a list of Sacha Baron Cohen’s other films that will keep you entertained, surprised, and sometimes even moved.
1. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006)
No point in pushing this one down the list.

When "Seinfeld" got controversial, it didn't do so in a socially conscious way á la Norman Lear's "All in the Family," nor did it go in for barbed political satire (which may be one reason why its infamous "The Puerto Rican Day" episode landed with such a thud in 1998). Generally, the series crossed lines alongside its hilariously self-absorbed and frequently petty characters, who might get caught up in a competition over who can abstain from pleasuring themselves the longest or worked into a panic over being erroneously outed as gay in a major publication. (Some of these episodes really haven't aged well.)
For the most part, the cast and crew knew what show they'd signed up to appear in or work on, so everyone had a sense as to what subjects might be taboo. There was one time, however, when everyone wasn't on the same page, which resulted in...

Like the cult member being primed for the afterlife in his new comedy, the fabulously funny Lets Start a Cult, comedian Stavros Halkias is ready to transcend. In real life, that is. From his successful 2023 Netflix special Fat Rascal and role in Tires to his hilarious old Cumtown and new Stavvys World podcasts, Halkias is on the precipice of newfound stardom. This is a huge talent to keep your eyes on (if you havent been tracking him already) and Halkias absurdly funny, in-your-face humor propels Lets Start a Cult, which he co-wrote with director Ben Kitnick and costar Wes Haney. This is one of the best comedies of the 2020s.

Jimmy Fallon broke out the fake mustaches last night, convincing Sacha Baron Cohen to lampoon election debates by pretending to moderate as two of his iconic characters — Ali G. and Borat. Very nice!
While that seems like an entirely predictable bit for Cohen to perform on The Tonight Show, the comic actor had vowed in recent years never to perform as Borat again. In 2021, he revealed that appearing as the character in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm had proved “too dangerous” and he was hanging up the lime-green mankini for good.
“There were a couple of times I had to put on a bulletproof vest to go and shoot a scene, and you don’t want to do that too many times in your life,” he told Entertainment Tonight three years ago. “I was pretty lucky to get out this time, so no, I’m not doing it again. I’m going...

Not many people can claim that they were kicked out of the state of New York twice, but Sacha Baron Cohen isn’t most people. During a visit to “The Tonight Show” (in New York) to promote his Apple TV+ series “Disclaimer,” Cohen told Jimmy Fallon exactly what led to him being booted both times.
“I thought it was a little bit over the top,” Cohen told Fallon on “The Tonight Show” Thursday night.
Not surprisingly, the evacuations happened while he was filming “Borat” and “Borat 2.” The first time Cohen was encouraged to leave the state, he was filming a scene at the Wellington Hotel.
“Borat thought that when he bought the room for 200 bucks, he bought everything in the room. So I started carrying out the bed and the furniture,” Cohen explained as Fallon and the studio audience laughed. “They called the police, and they arrested the line producer and the first Ad.

Sacha Baron Cohen made multiple headlines with his two Borat films for all the wrong reasons. Despite being critically acclaimed, both the mockumentary films have their fair share of controversies. For its unscripted and unconventional humor, the English comedian had to face many hurdles while filming the Borat series.

Sacha Baron Cohen resurrected his infamous characters Borat and Ali G during a visit to “The Tonight Show,” in which he imagined what they might say to Donald Trump and Kamala Harris amid the race for president. Ali G is predictably a big admirer of Trump, which allowed Baron Cohen to call out the Republican nominee’s worst behavior.
“Yo, Mr. Trump. You is being convicted of 32 crimes, you stole classified documents, you boned enough porn stars and you ain’t never paid no taxes. Respect! You my hero,” Baron Cohen as Ali G said as “The Tonight Show” studio audience laughed.
Reviving Borat also gave Baron Cohen the chance to mock Trump’s infamous claim during the presidential debate that Haitian immigrants in Ohio are eating dogs and other pets.

Sacha Baron Cohen is an actor whose best roles often involve controversial characters. One of the comedian's most famous roles is Borat, but Cohen has revealed that he will likely never play the character again. Why? It appears the actor felt threatened during the production of the 2020 sequel, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.
Cohen shared a harrowing story with the SmartLess podcast (first reported by The Daily Mail), detailing how he was forced to hide from a pro-gun mob. He suggests the group was looking to punish him for Borat's antics in the latest film, where he essentially mocks the crowd for his meta-commentary. Cohen explained on the podcast why he's likely hanging up the Borat Sagdiyev suit forever: "The last one became so extreme. After that gun rally, I was essentially on the run."

If someone had said 15 years ago that Pamela Anderson would generate potential Academy Award buzz, people would have thought it was a joke. That buzzy awards title and a leading role in The Naked Gun sequel starring Liam Neeson, set to open in the summer of 2025, seem to be the start of a new chapter in Anderson's career. Anderson has been a global icon for over three decades but has often been looked down upon as a sex icon, and many critics and audiences have never taken her seriously.

"So, with WandaVision — again, this is me embarrassing myself in print — I didn't really know who Mephisto was when WandaVision dropped," Schaeffer explained in a recent interview with The Wrap, before mentioning the wine bottle prop labeled Maison du Mepris which translates to House of Mepris in English.
The wine bottle was something prop master Russell Bobbitt put in the episode that Schaeffer "was unaware of."
Schaeffer later added, "And obviously,...

WandaVision featured a few nods to the devil but fan theories about Mephisto being the mastermind behind what was happening in Westview were ultimately proven incorrect. In fact, the villain's name was never even mentioned.
That changed during last Wednesday's episode of Agatha All Along when Jennifer Kale told Teen there were rumblings Agatha Harkness exchanged her baby for the Darkhold and that Nicholas Scratch may now be a demon or "Agent of Mephisto."
Talking to The Wrap, Agatha All Along showrunner Jac Schaeffer elaborated on the Easter Egg that's got everyone talking.
"So, with 'WandaVision' - again, this is me embarrassing myself in print - I didn’t really know who Mephisto was when 'WandaVision' dropped," the writer and director admitted. "There was the wine bottle that was a prop that had something on the wine label, that prop master Russell Bobbitt had put on, that I was,...

Earlier this month, a new satirical comedy launched in theaters, and despite its box office success and high audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it has not been receiving many critical reviews. The film, directed by Justin Folk, and starring the right-wing political commentator, Matt Walsh, has been described by many, including Walsh himself, as a documentary. However, some aspects of the film, as well as recent revelations from those involved, suggest otherwise.
Am I Racist? was created by the conservative media company, The Daily Wire, notorious for producing The Ben Shapiro Show, and Mr. Birchum. To some, it was a piece of political media put out to highlight perceived criticisms of Dei, and others simply saw it as a funny film. This is where some of the confusion arises since its comedic elements seem to represent Am I Racist? as a mockumentary, similar to films such as Borat or Drop Dead Gorgeous.

For whatever reason, there are films that we in the entertainment media fail to notice. In the case of the documentary Am I Racist?, that whatever reason is that we’re liberals. Not one mainstream media company reviewed the film — the first theatrical release from Ben Shapiro’s conservative media company The Daily Wire — which has been in the top 10 for two weeks. So The Hollywood Reporter enlisted someone who doesn’t care if he loses all his friends. That person was me.
Even more surprising than the fact that Am I Racist? has grossed more than $9 million, making it one of the 40 highest-grossing docs ever, is the fact that the 14th-highest-grossing theater for the film was the AMC 16 in Burbank. So on Thursday, I went to see who in Burbank, a town where 70 percent of the voters chose Joe Biden in 2020, would show up to see the film. I chose the latest showing possible,...
