Lawrence Of Arabia screens Wednesday September 21st at The Tivoli Theater (6350 Delmar in ‘The Loop’) as part of their new ‘Classics in the Loop’ film series. The movie starts at 7pm and admission is $7. It will be on The Tivoli’s big screen.

“Greatest biopic ever”…”Genius in 70mm”…”A Miracle of a Movie”…

All these statements were said somewhere about director David Lean’s Lawrence Of Arabia and it’s understandable. It was some kind of madness to make a movie like this in 1962. Working in the middle of desert for such a long time, those extraordinary ways of cinematographer Freddie Young, and working with that huge number of actors (and camels).

But it all worked. Lawrence Of Arabia is more than a glorious, expensive, old biopic movie.

Acting great Omar Sharif has died at the age of 83.

The Egyptian actor was best known for his leading role in Doctor Zhivago and major supporting role in Lawrence of Arabia.

His agent Steve Kenis confirmed today (July 10): "He suffered a heart attack this afternoon in a hospital in Cairo."

In May, Kenis had revealed that the actor had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

After starring in over 20 Egyptian movies, Sharif made his English language debut in David Lean's 1962 epic Lawrence of Arabia.

He won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for the performance, and also picked up an Oscar nomination.

Several other major roles followed, and Sharif reunited with Lean in 1965 to lead his adaptation of Boris Pasternak's Doctor Zhivago.

Lawrence of Arabia star Omar Sharif is battling Alzheimer's disease, his spokesperson has confirmed.

The actor's agent Steve Kenis told The AP that Sharif has been diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disease.

Omar's son Tarek Sharif first revealed the news in an interview with Spanish outlet El Mundo.

Sharif most recently appeared on the big screen in the 2013 French-Moroccan film Rock the Casbah, and appeared in the television series The Ten Commandments and The Traveller in the last decade.

The Egyptian actor's English-language breakthrough in Lawrence of Arabia (1962) earned him two Golden Globe Awards, and led to his casting in another Golden Globe-winning title role in Doctor Zhivago (1965).

He would become a Hollywood mainstay over the next decade, with prominent parts in Funny Girl, Juggernaut and Top Secret!.

Rhi has produced hundreds of TV movies and miniseries, from epics ("Gulliver's Travels," "The Ten Commandments,") to biographies ("The Josephine Baker Story"), new versions of classic films ("The Land of Oz,") and, in recent years, the low-budget monster movies that crowd SyFy's schedule. Mission: Impossible II star Dougray Scott is joining the cast of hit TV series Desperate Housewives as a love interest for Teri Hatcher's character Susan. The Scottish star most recently appeared in US network NBC's short-lived series Heist and played Moses in a television mini-series re-make of The Ten Commandments. According to TV Guide magazine, the 40-year-old star will appear on the show when it returns to the schedule this autumn.

ABC unveiled some late midseason schedule shuffling that will send returning series Alias and Hope & Faith to new nights. Alias, which is in its final season, is moving from Thursday to Wednesday at 8 p.m. beginning April 19. The spy drama took a brief hiatus from its 8 p.m. Thursday slot beginning in January, when Dancing With the Stars made a successful run in its time slot. Faith, which has struggled on Fridays, will move to Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. beginning March 21, following According to Jim. ABC also said it has postponed the premiere of the new drama What About Brian for two weeks, slotting a sneak preview April 16 after Desperate Housewives. The next day, it will settle into its regular time slot at 10 p.m. Monday. Oscar-nominated filmmaker Gary Ross has signed up for television duty, teaming with Bruckheimer Television and Warner Bros. TV for a drama project dubbed Invisible that has landed a pilot commitment at NBC. The project is described as a medical thriller about a renegade researcher who is tracking a mysterious disease through the Centers for Disease Control. Ross is set to pen the script and serve as an executive producer alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Bruckheimer TV chief Jonathan Littman. Ross earned Oscar nominations for adapted screenplay and best picture for his 2003 period drama Seabiscuit. He also snared Oscar noms in writing categories for 1993's Dave and 1988's Big. He also wrote and directed the 1998 cult-fave film Pleasantville. Among his recent feature projects, Ross is shepherding a remake of the 1954 creature-feature classic Creature From the Black Lagoon through his Universal Pictures-based Larger Than Life Prods. banner. ABC and producer Robert Halmi Sr. have lined up an international cast led by Dougray Scott, Omar Sharif, Naveen Andrews, Mia Maestro and Linus Roache for The Ten Commandments, a big-budget four-hour miniseries that retells the classic biblical tale of Moses. Production on the Hallmark Entertainment special effects extravaganza, whose budget is estimated at more than $20 million, is slated to begin May 23 in Ouarzazate, Morocco. The premiere of the two-part epic, written by Ron Hutchinson after months of biblical and historical research, is targeted for next season. Robert Dornhelm is directing the project, which will present the story of Moses and the Israelites' exodus from Egypt in 13th century B.C. (HR 1/13). Halmi is exec producing. Scott, who worked with ABC and Halmi on Arabian Nights, will portray Moses.
