“No Arab loves the desert. We love water and green trees. There is nothing in the desert and no man needs nothing.”
Lawrence Of Arabia screens Wednesday September 21st at The Tivoli Theater (6350 Delmar in ‘The Loop’) as part of their new ‘Classics in the Loop’ film series. The movie starts at 7pm and admission is $7. It will be on The Tivoli’s big screen.
“Greatest biopic ever”…”Genius in 70mm”…”A Miracle of a Movie”…
All these statements were said somewhere about director David Lean’s Lawrence Of Arabia and it’s understandable. It was some kind of madness to make a movie like this in 1962. Working in the middle of desert for such a long time, those extraordinary ways of cinematographer Freddie Young, and working with that huge number of actors (and camels).
But it all worked. Lawrence Of Arabia is more than a glorious, expensive, old biopic movie.

Are the creators of History Channel’s The Bible trying to tell us something? Here’s a photo of actor Mohamen Mehdi Ouazanni as Satan in “Hope,” one of two episodes that aired last night:
Yeah, he definitely bears a striking resemblance to Frank Langella as Richard Nixon. Or, you know, a cross between President Barack Obama and Emperor Palpatine. Guess this is just one of the “weird things” that happened on the show’s set.
Folks started to notice the connection between Obama and History’s Satan last night, while the program was still airing. Thank Glenn Beck for...

Emmy-winning producer Robert Halmi Sr. is leaving Rhi Entertainment, the production company he founded, to start a new one -- at 88 years old. Rhi has produced hundreds of TV movies and miniseries, from epics ("Gulliver's Travels," "The Ten Commandments,") to biographies ("The Josephine Baker Story"), new versions of classic films ("The Land of Oz,") and, in recent years, the low-budget monster movies that crowd SyFy's schedule. Padma Lakshmi is many things. Chef. Model. Host. Author. Emmy nominee. Jewelry designer. Hamburger devourer. Stopper of the segment of my brain that controls speech. But here’s one that you don’t often hear: Padma Lakshmi, funny lady.
Still, that is what the Top Chef hostess with the mostest could be known as next after signing a development deal with NBC for her own sitcom. According to Variety, the show — possibly called Single Serving — will star Padma as a woman working in the culinary world.
Now, I can’t vouch for Padma’s comedy chops, since the only kind of chops I’ve ever seen her with are of the pork variety; but I do know that if Padma is going to be on my TV, I am going to watch whether it’s a sitcom, drama, police procedural, sci-fi adventure or episode of Ice Road Truckers.
