The Rising

Logline: Hundreds of thousands of people were exposed to the risk of chemical illness when the U.S. government and Bp sprayed millions of gallons of toxic dispersants in the Bp Horizon Disaster ‘clean-up’ operations.

Elevator Pitch:

An acclaimed filmmaker turns his lens to the frontlines of the Bp Horizon disaster and the large scale cover-up of the tragic health effects following the infamous spill in 2010, in an upcoming documentary called “The Rising.” The film exposes the true health effects for tens of thousands of people and the ramifications of unregulated corporate power and government collusion to our nation.

John Carpenter keeps his office in a converted hillside Hollywood home, on a quiet tree-lined street evocative of the sleepy suburb Michael Myers terrorized in 1978’s Halloween. Inside, the walls are lined with memories marking Carpenter’s four decades in film: original prints, awards, figurines of Kurt Russell as Snake Plisskin and the Creature From The Black Lagoon movie Carpenter spent years trying to make at Universal, a sculpture commemorating the prankster goosings on the set of his Big Trouble In Little China. Carpenter, 67, chain smokes as we revisit the films that made his career — starting with Halloween, a film originally titled The Babysitter Murders that the hungry young director took after making his debut with 1974 sci-fier Dark Star and honing his chops with 1976’s Assault On Precinct 13.

New Taylor Swift music on 'Valentine's Day' soundtrack
No word yet on when we’ll get a follow-up to Taylor Swift’s “Fearless,” the top-selling album of 2009, but we will get new song from Swift on the soundtrack to “Valentine’s Day,” out Feb. 9. The movie, which features Swift, as well as Taylor Lautner, Bradley Cooper, Julia Roberts, Joe Jonas, Queen Latifah, Patrick Dempsey and many more, opens Feb. 12. Swift’s song, “Today was a Fairy Tale,” is one of two new tracks on the set; Jewel’s “Stay Here Forever” will be the first single, according to Music Row. Valentine’s Day track list: 1.
