Palibhasa lalake

The Origin of the Scriptless, Adlibbed Sitcom

'Palibhasa Lalaki' was one of the few good sitcoms ever produced for TV, proudly coming after the lines of classics such as 'John en Marsha', 'TODAS', 'Iskul Bukul', and 'Plaza 1899'.

The premise of 'Palibhasa Lalaki' was humble enough; it is about the lighter side of Filipino machismo attitude and it's senior cast include Richard Gomez, Joey Marquez, the late Miguel Rodriguez, and Gloria Romero. The first few years of 'Palibhasa' was satisfactory' but as time went along the writers and cast quickly caught the funny-bone of the Pinoy audience.

The height of Palibhasa's popularity was during the time they began to use humor that reflected the real lives of the actors involved in the series.

Today, its predecessor 'Lagot Ka Isusumbong Kita' on another station reflects Palibhasa's legacy. However, many have imitated but no show will even come close to the originality and humility of the machismo humor than 'Palibhasa Lalaki'.
