Rogue present for remake of 'The Absent'
Rogue Pictures will remake the Spanish thriller Ausentes (The Absent), which Doug Davison and Roy Lee will produce via their Vertigo Entertainment banner. Spanish helmer Daniel Calparsoro, who directed the original, is attached to develop and direct the redo. The story follows a woman who moves to the suburbs to recover from a nervous breakdown but begins to suspect that there is something sinister about her new town and that her family might be involved. The project is out to writers to pen the adaptation. Vertigo's Sonny Mallhi will exec produce the remake. Alex Heineman oversees for Rogue. Vertigo is in preproduction on Strangers, also at Rogue, and is behind the upcoming romantic drama The Lake House, starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. Calparsoro, repped by UTA, is attached to direct the horror movie Anvil for Gold Circle. In Spain, he directed Guerreros (Warriors), which was nominated for several Spanish Goyas in 2002.
