Casey Novak (Diane Neal) was a long-time cast member of Law & Order: Svu with some memorable and intense storylines, and her character was written off the show in a suitably dramatic fashion. Law & Order: Svu has the notable claim to fame of being the longest-running show in Dick Wolf's extensive TV universe. For 25 seasons, the ensemble cast of Svu has investigated hundreds of horrific sex crimes in the New York City precinct and even after it seems like they've seen the worst, another criminal comes along to shock them.
But it isn't just the detectives and police officers who have the goal of apprehending the city's worst. There are dozens of people who want to protect the innocent just as much as the NYPD does. Indian cinema star Tabu plays a pivotal role in the “Dune” universe in Max’s prequel series “Dune: Prophecy,” appearing as Sister Francesca in the final two episodes.
Inspired by “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, the series is set 10,000 years before the events of “Dune” and follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces threatening humankind’s future while establishing what will become the Bene Gesserit order.
Alison Schapker serves as showrunner and executive producer, with Diane Ademu-John co-developing the series and serving as executive producer. Anna Foerster executive produced and directed multiple episodes.
The role came to Tabu – whose international credits include Mira Nair’s “The Namesake” (2006) and “A Suitable Boy” (2020) and Ang Lee’s “Life of Pi” (2012) – through a straightforward process.

Tabu Net Worth (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Tabu is one actress who needs no introduction. Many consider her an epitome of talent, versatility, grace, and stellar screen presence. Over the years, she has established herself as a powerhouse of a performer who has, time and again, left the audience impressed with her bold choices and experimentation with her roles. This has also been reflected in her soaring bankability.
Tabu’s Journey In The Entertainment Industry.
Tabu started her acting career with the 1985 film Hum Naujawan opposite Dev Anand and the 1991 Telugu film Coolie No 1 opposite Venkatesh. However, it was the 1994 film Vijaypath opposite Ajay Devgn which catapulted her into the main league. What followed was a glorious career spanning around 90 films. She appeared in films like Hu Tu Tu, Virasat, Maqbool, Chandni Bar, Haider, Cheeni Kam, The Namesake, and Life Of Pi.

Law & Order's popularity spawned several spin-offs, including Special Victims Unit, which became the longest-running primetime U.S. live-action series. While Svu detectives, like Detectives Benson and Tutuola, are the heart of the series, many of the ADAs have also become staples in Svu.
These ADAs have provided the squad with the necessary search warrants and legal advice before an arrest. The Assistant District Attorneys are vital to the process, as criminals could walk free without the legal knowledge and advice the Svu ADAs provide the detectives. Once the criminal is in custody, ADAs have the difficult job of securing a sentence for the criminal. While this is no easy feat, every Ada in Svu proves they're up to the task.

The assistant district attorneys are important characters in Law & Order: Svu, with the best ones among the show's most compelling characters. The long-running police procedural focuses equally on the courtroom side of cases involving sex offenders. Thus, ADAs heavily influence whether the victim in each case gets the justice they deserve, and many of Law & Order: Svu's best episodes involve ADAs going above and beyond the call of duty to secure convictions against powerful people that seemed unlikely at best.
During the 26 years that Law & Order: Svu has been on the air, many ADAs have either helped or hindered justice. Many of these attorneys have become close friends to Olivia Benson and the rest of the Svu squad, though some have been thorns in their side. Warning! Spoilers ahead for Law & Order season 24, episode 4.The main case in Law & Order season 24, episode 4 could have prevented Maroun's ethically questionable move if it had gone in a different direction. The long-running procedural often raises ethical questions that have no easy answers, and some of the best episodes of Law & Order leave it up to the audience to decide what was right or wrong after the final credits roll.
Maroun has been one of the ADAs who tries cases since the premiere of the soft reboot in 2021. Law & Order season 24 has amplified her willingness to cross ethical lines to get justice for victims. NCIS: Origins is debuting, so here are some classic NCIS episodes to watch to get ready for it!
NCIS fans have long been missing Agent Jethro Gibbs. The heart of the series since it debuted as a backdoor pilot on Jag, Gibbs was loved for his stern demeanor, dedication to his job, sometimes wry humor and tragic backstory of losing a wife and child. Mark Harmon made the character beloved, so it was a shock when Gibbs opened Season 19 by quitting to retire to Alaska.
Fortunately, Harmon will be returning to the franchise in a unique way. NCIS: Origins takes us back to 1993 with Austin Stowell playing a younger Gibbs joining the agency and how he became the agent we know. It looks to be an intriguing spin on the franchise and to prepare for it, these episodes are must-watch to see what parts of Gibbs' life can come to play.

“The Queen of My Dreams” has been on its way to the big screen for more than ten years. Though not originally planned as a feature, writer and director Fawzia Mirza originally saw the story through life as both a short film and a stage play, based on her own experiences as a queer Pakistani-Canadian woman. The title is a literal translation of “Meri Sapno Ki Rani,” the wildly popular Hindi song from 1969’s “Aradhana.”
The film opens with narration from Azra (Amrit Kaur), Mirza’s self-insert, who has a complicated relationship with mother Mariam (Nimra Bucha) — but the two share an uncomplicated, undying love for the movie “Aradhana” starring Sharmila Tagore and Rajesh Khanna. When Azra’s father Hassan (Hamza Haq) suffers a fatal heart attack, Azra must join the family in Pakistan to mourn his passing — and salvage a rocky relationship with the only parent she has left.

NCIS: Origins could risk revealing too much about Gibbs, potentially ruining the mysterious charm of his character. Actor Mark Harmon will return as the narrator in NCIS: Origins, with Austin Stowell portraying a young Gibbs. Despite the excitement of exploring Gibbs' adventurous background, there is a massive risk in making him the central character of the prequel series.

These directors often work outside of Hollywood, producing films with distinctive artistic visions, and offeringing fresh perspectives and innovative approaches to storytelling. Their works may explore unconventional cinematic techniques, delve into niche subjects, or challenge social norms. Despite their lack of widespread fame, these directors have garnered critical acclaim within the film industry and among cinephiles for their creativity, craftsmanship, and ability to evoke powerful emotions.

It's not easy to be a district attorney, especially in a big city like Manhattan, where competing pressures exist.
Jack McCoy should be perfectly poised to handle it. He was an Ada for years, is passionate about justice, and knows the ins and outs of the legal system.
But on Law & Order Season 23 Episode 3, McCoy again made a questionable decision based on what would most likely win the case. It was less egregious than entering a potentially fake video into evidence, but it still felt like McCoy had lost his way.
Cops should never be put on pedestals, and questioning their integrity and fitness for the job is fair game. And since Riley got tipsy on the job and punched his supervisor, he would have faced public questioning about it sooner or later.
But McCoy's decision about this was purely political. He weighed the possibility that the cops wouldn't...

Ada Barba left the Da's office after a traumatizing case where he had to make the decision to take a child off life support. The experience haunted him and led to his resignation. Barba's departure from Law & Order: Svu was due to actor Raul Esparza's decision to leave the show. It was a less dramatic exit compared to other characters, as Esparza felt he had explored all he could with Barba. Despite leaving the show, Esparza reprised his role in season 22 as Barba, appearing both as a defense attorney and representing a crime boss in Law & Order: Organized Crime. The possibility of his return remains open.
Despite being brilliant at his job, there's a justified reason why Ada Rafael Barba left Law & Order: Svu. Played by the acclaimed Raul Esparza, Barba became the show's titular Special Victims Unit's go-to assistant district attorney after he asked for...

1497 has selected three finalist for their Features Lab.
The Lab’s first year was held virtually, and the second year was hybrid, held virtually and in-person. For its third year, 1497 is conducting the Lab as an in-person, immersive, artistic retreat in Malibu, California, during which each Mentee will be paired with a pod of four Mentors from whom they will receive script feedback and career guidance. Mentees will also work with filmmaker and veteran script consultant Adrienne Weiss to further develop their scripts, with a particular emphasis on the emotional journey of their stories.

Jacinda Barrett and Gabriel Macht have been married for more than two decades, and their love seems to be going strong. Macht starred on "Suits," a show that's been having a steady resurgence this summer since it hit Netflix, and this has sparked renewed interest in his love life - particularly in the fact that his wife, Jacinda Barrett, stars as his love interest in season two.
However, the pair didn't meet on the "Suits" set. They actually were already married and had a child together when Macht began his tenure on the show, which also stars Meghan Markle, in 2011. "Suits" also wasn't even the first time Macht and Barrett appeared on screen together; they both had roles in the 2009 film "Middle Men." Both Macht and Barrett have their own acting careers, with Barrett appearing in "Bridget Jones's Diary: The Edge of Reason," "The Namesake," and, more recently, "Hide and Seek.

A raucous Indian wedding brass band draws the audience to their seats at St. Ann’s Warehouse, heralding the start of Monsoon Wedding. As you might expect, despite some last-minute detours and the spilling of unexpected secrets, all’s well that ends well in a swirl of marigold and crimson, exuberant dance, and the cathartic deluge promised by the title.

Since then, She’s enjoyed a distinguished filmmaking career with such works as Mississippi Masala, The Namesake, and Vanity Fair.
I recently spoke with Nair about the importance of bringing her most popular movie to the stage, its unique marriage of styles, and more.

The film was a dud, but the Badshah song, picturised on Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra, has garnered 1.2 billion (and counting!) YouTube views. And today, the world seems to be dancing to its perky Punjabi rap tune.
Be it Team India, American night TV host Jimmy Fallon, singer-actress Demi Lovato, Hong Kong cricketers, children from Africa or Indian aunties, everyone seems to have been gripped by the ‘Kala Chashma’ fever that has been raging on the Internet.
Recently, as Team India registered its revenge win against the Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup, Bollywood stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday, too, vibed to the track to celebrate the victory. What explains this sudden rage over an old song?
The song in question is from the 2016 sci-fi comedy ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ starring Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra. The track is a remake of London-based Punjabi singer Amar Arshi’s hit 1990s track of the same name.

MTV's The Real World was basically the beginning of reality television. Before The Hills, Selling Sunset, and The Kardashians existed, MTV paved the way by featuring regular non-famous people living their lives out in the real world. Some of the people featured on The Real World went on to become celebrities in their own right and famous for other things. Those who never watched The Real World may not even be aware of certain famous people who got their start on that show.

There are two great films in which Kal Penn plays a pot-smoker who rebels against leading a life his parents would readily approve of. One of them is 2004's "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle," and the other is 2006's "The Namesake," based on the 2003 novel by Pulitzer Prize winner Jhumpa Lahiri. It was Penn's "Harold & Kumar" co-star, John Cho, who put him on the path to starring in the latter, which is really only testament to the influential power of 2000s stoner cinema. But I digress.

One of the greatest novels of the 21st century so far, Jhumpa Lahiri's "The Namesake" nearly defies adaptation. Spanning multiple decades, languages, and metropolises, Lahiri's novel follows the life of Gogol Ganguli, a first-generation Indian American, and his oft-contentious relationship with his ethnic identity. Luckily, the best filmmaker for the job stepped up to the plate and made an adaptation of "The Namesake" that radiates as much charm and melancholy as the novel does.

"We're just friends." "Did I say any different?" Janus Films has revealed an official trailer for Mississippi Masala, an early 90s romantic drama from filmmaker Mira Nair - her second film at the time. She later went on to make Monsoon Wedding and The Namesake, but before those she made this starring Denzel Washinton and Sarita Choudhury. The film first premiered in 1991, and opened in US theaters in early 1992. This 4K digital restoration was commissioned by the Criterion Collection and supervised by director Mira Nair and cinematographer Edward Lachman. The film is about an ethnic Indian family that's expelled from Idi Amin's Uganda in 1972 and now lives in Mississippi 17 years later. The dad sues Uganda to get his property back, while the grown daughter falls in love with a Black man - played by Denzel. It also stars Roshan Seth, Sharmila Tagore, Charles S. Dutton, Joe Seneca, & Ranjit Chowdhry.

While Netflix is far from being a haven for admirers of classic cinema, they thankfully are backing strong repertory programming in New York City. After acquiring The Paris Theater, located on 58th Street in Manhattan, and briefly reopening with some runs of Netflix features and other specialty programming, they are now officially opening their doors again on August 6 with a more substantial slate of classic cinema.
Featuring two programs, one curated by Radha Blank and another by the theater’s programmer David Schwartz, the reopening lineup features work by John Cassavetes, Kathleen Collins, Luis Buñuel, Mira Nair, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Ingmar Bergman, Terence Davies, and much more––with many on film prints.
One can also enter to win a pass for Schwartz’s series “The Paris is For Lovers,” with a newly-unveiled scavenger hunt tied to Ira Deutchman’s new documentary Searching for Mr. Rugoff, which opens on August 13 and is part of the lineup.

The Paris Theater, a beloved arthouse cinema in New York City, is reopening its doors next month.
To celebrate its return on Aug. 6, filmmaker Radha Blank is curating a slate of repertory titles to screen alongside her directorial debut “The Forty-Year-Old Version.” Her movie, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival, is playing through Aug. 12.
The Paris opened in 1948 and is the only single-screen movie theater in Manhattan. Netflix acquired the 545-seat venue in 2019 and, prior to Covid-19, held premieres, special events and screenings of its films in the storied institution, which is just south of Central Park.
“I made ‘Forty-Year-Old Version’ in 35mm Black & White in the spirit of the many great films that informed my love of cinema,” says Blank. “I’m excited to show the film in 35mm as intended and alongside potent films by fearless filmmakers who inspired my development as a storyteller and expanded my vision...
