Now in its second season, The Apothecary Diariesanime is still a hit with fans of the light novel and manga series that inspired it. The story takes place in the Inner Palace of the Li Empire, a fictionalized setting inspired by elements of Imperial China's Tang and Ming Dynasties. With deuteragonists Maomao and Jinshi sharing the anime's spotlight, fans keep coming back to see the bond between them grow, but they aren't the only characters who win fans' attention.
As the anime progresses, characters introduced in Season 1 become more significant as the series develops, and new characters introduced in Season 2 quickly find their way into fans' hearts. Whether presented as a victim or a villain, development on character backstories reveal complex motivations behind their actions, with even the most simple-seeming characters having nuance. The best part of the series is how it explores the lives of many women in and out of the Imperial Court,...

Snow White is one of the most beloved Disney Princesses, and the story, which is based on the 1812 classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale, has been adapted in different ways, from music to literature and films. Disney has a brand-new Snow White live-action movie coming out soon.
In a new teaser released ahead of the film's premiere, via Cbr, Snow White comes with a tribute to Walt Disney's 1937 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The film was Disney's first project and continues to be a beloved fairy tale. Although it comes with a modern twist, instead of completely stepping away from the original, the upcoming Snow White, which is a live-action reimagining, doubled down on the similarities with the original.

The case of Gal Gadot is quite a peculiar one. The actress has starred in several well-respected and successful projects, ranging from the Fast and the Furious franchise to The Red Notice, and, most famously, playing the role of Wonder Woman in the DC Universe.
Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman | Warner Bros. Pictures
Despite all of her success and fame, there has been a recent wave of fans criticizing her acting skills. Easily being traced back to her 2023 film, Heart of Stone, Gadot has suddenly found herself being questioned about the fame that she possesses.
While some would think that such criticism would eventually fade away, the latest trailer for Disney’s Snow White film may showcase a bigger problem for the actress.

The following contains spoilers for Moana 2, now playing in theaters
Moana 2's big emotional moment in the film's climax carries on a longstanding meaning of Walt Disney Animation. Moana 2 is the latest entry to the canon of animated movies that's been going strong for almost a century. Over the course of 63 films, Walt Disney Animation has explored several different themes and settings, with a colorful collection of characters that reflect an ever-changing perspective on the world at large. Despite this wide variety, many of the films do ultimately share a lot of common elements.
Moana 2 pokes fun at elements like Disney Princesses, subverting long-standing aspects of the franchise. However, one of the film's most emotionally powerful moments has a deep-seeted connection to other entries in the series. Moana 2's ending highlights one of the most powerful recurring themes in Disney Animation, and elevates Moana's status as a hero.

Disney Dreamlight Valley has finally released its brand-new expansion pass, The Storybook Vale. The highly anticipated paid update for the game is the follow-up to Disney Dreamlight Valley's first expansion pass, A Rift In Time, which was released in December 2023. The Storybook Vale released its first installment, Part One, on November 20, and is scheduled to release Part Two in 2025, with even more content for players to enjoy. The content introduced by The Storybook Vale is vast, with many brand-new quests, characters, biomes, critters, and more to explore.
Although A Rift In Time was a successful expansion pass in itself, there are a few reasons why The Storybook Vale shines just that little bit more. It is evident that Disney Dreamlight Valley's developer, Gameloft, put an awful lot of thought into the production of this expansion pass, from the fairy tale aesthetic to its entertaining new quests. Quick Links Early Disney Princesses Followed a Fairy-Tale Formula Meg From Hercules Broke the Mold of Disney Heroines Disney Has Yet to Write Another Disney Heroine Like Meg
Disney gained its reputation for excellence in animation with its first animated female-led feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, in 1937. Realizing the fairy tale lent itself to animation, Disney used this concept to begin churning out one animated hit after another. Even incorporating animation into its live-action films, like Mary Poppins (1964). What resulted would eventually become a collection of leading ladies that would become branded official Disney Princesses in 2000. The brand itself has had a rotating roster of princesses over the years, but one has never been given the honor of joining its ranks -- Megara from Disney's Hercules (1997).

Some old Disney movies contain problematic scenes illustrating biases at the time of production. Song of the South is the most problematic Disney movie due to its romanticization of slavery and racial stereotypes. Certain Disney Princess movies rely on problematic romances and the main character giving up everything for a man.
Disney is known for its beloved animated classics, plenty of which feature moments that have not aged well. It is not surprising that parts of Disney's corpus are outdated or problematic when the studio has been producing movies since the 1930s. Even some titles which are considered among Disney's best animated movies demonstrate some bad moments like this, proof that most people are willing to accept such flaws when the movie is decades old.
The things in old Disney movies that wouldn't work today are illustrations of the biases that were much more prevalent in filmmaking 20, 50, or almost 100 years...

Immersion is the backbone of any Disney Parks experience. While other places don’t care if their costumed employees wear walkie-talkies or break character, Cast Members are a different, dedicated breed.
However, as Sfgate notes, trying to keep guests in a land of fantasy, adventure, or a galaxy far, far away isn’t easy. You can’t have Disney Princesses or Star Wars characters constantly checking their phones to see when it’s time for a break or shift rotation.
The solution to this issue is far easier than you think. All you need is one ancient piece of communication: a slip of paper.
Walt’s employees have used this basic form of correspondence for some time. Sure, it’s not a technique unique to Disney or theme parks specifically, but guests have probably noticed it more often there than anywhere else.

Fans of the popular FX show Shōgun, get ready because if everything works out, you may get two more seasons. But they are moving forward with the creative team behind the first season, including co-creators Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, executive producer Michaela Clavell, and producer and star Hiroyuki Sanada. The estate of Shōgun’s author, James Clavell, is also on board.
Sanada has reportedly signed a deal for the second season if it is renewed. However, it has not officially been renewed at this time.
Shōgun was the most popular show on FX by hours watched, but it was also the most expensive show FX has produced. Now the ten-episode series is also available on Hulu.
Given how popular the show was and that FX reportedly submitted the series for Emmy consideration in the “drama” category instead of “limited series.” If they did, it likely means they are serious about another season.

"Do You Want To Build A Snowman?" was almost cut from Frozen but ended up becoming one of the most streamed Disney songs. The song is crucial to understanding how Anna and Elsa's relationship evolved over the years before their eventual reunion. Producer Peter Del Vecho explained that test audiences saved the song from being removed due to its emotional impact.
Disney's animated movie Frozen almost saw one of its most popular songs not make the final cut. Loosely adapted from the fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen, Frozen tells the story of sisters, Anna and Elsa, Princesses of Arendelle, who are separated by their parents when Elsa loses control of her ice powers; when Elsa accidentally reveals her powers at her coronation and turns summer into winter, Anna must find her sister and put things right. Sleeping Beauty's 1959 box office bomb halted Disney's princess stories for 30 years. Disney slowly moved away from animation after Sleeping Beauty's failure. The lack of marketing and critical reception contributed to Sleeping Beauty's theatrical flop.
The Disney Princesses are one of the company's most beloved series of films, but the 1959 version of Sleeping Beauty had a box office bomb that was so large it killed the franchise for 30 years. The company got its start in 1937 with the now-classic film Snow White and The Seven Dwarves before moving on to other well-known projects such as Pinocchio and Bambi. Princesses were largely ignored by the company until the premiere of Cinderella in 1950, which was a critical success.
With this success, Disney began to branch out into television and live-action, though animation was still the primary focus of the company. However, despite Cindrella's strong reception, Disney continued to focus on animating non-princess-themed stories.

Disney Princesses have relatable moments, like waking up with messy hair or falling asleep in random places. Recent Disney Princesses deal with more complex problems that many people can relate to. Disney Princesses like Tiana and Moana have relatable career goals and aspirations.
Despite some aspects of the Disney Princesses aging poorly, they undeniably have relatable moments. Who wouldn't want to wake up with songbirds to do all their chores and generally have the world work to make life easier? This scenario is characteristic of the early era of Disney Princesses, including Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora. As the years passed, Disney Princesses became more complex characters and relatable in other ways.
Mulan, Tiana, Anna, Merida, and their fellow more recent Disney Princesses deal with problems many people can relate to: not connecting with a family member, having to do miserable work to get to something better, and dealing with bigger picture issues.

The portrayal of Disney princesses in early films perpetuated negative tropes. Many Disney princesses have been put in positions of needing to be rescued by men, despite being seen as empowering characters. There is a lack of diversity among Disney princesses, but recent films show signs of progress in representation.
Disney princess films have been around since 1937, leaving plenty of time to reflect on these films and question some of the choices made in them. For the longest time, Disney princesses have been seen as role model characters for young children, especially young girls. However, looking at these films and characters through a modern lens provides a different, and often negative, perspective.

Disney princesses have always been excellent characters with relatable morals and goals. The studio's live-action remakes imply that their older projects need fixing, but the original princesses were never just damsels in distress. Disney's repetitive use of quirky, adorkable heroines may be compensating for something, and it's time for the studio to embrace a variety of princess types.
Disney has taken to remaking all its classic animated Princess movies, which sometimes makes it seem as if these heroines need "fixing." This idea has been furthered by comments from figures within the studio, noting that characters like Snow White or Aurora don't align with feminist concepts. In truth, these Disney princesses have always been excellent characters, with morals and goals that align with those of countless women worldwide. Still, Disney continues to put out movies that feature female characters that are drastically different than the ones that put the studio on the map to begin with.

France Télévisions’ Daughters of Fire takes a modernistic approach to a tale from some 400 years or so ago and the creators and producers wanted to conjure themes around feminism, resistance and #MeToo when forging the drama series.

Classic Disney Princesses were previously criticized for lacking personality. Disney breathed new life into the Disney Princess brand during the Disney Renaissance. In recent years, the personalities of Disney heroines have started to mirror each other.
Disney dropped the latest trailer for its upcoming animated film Wish, and the audience already has mixed reactions. While there's little debate over the animation style of the films being an artistic spectacle and new heights for Disney, the main character has viewers wondering if Disney has lost its touch. Asha, the newest Disney Princess, first made her full debut in a teaser trailer released by the studio in April 2023. The first initial trailer offered insight into the film's premise but offered only passing glimpses into its leading lady's personality.
Since the debut of the second preview, fans have pointed out how some of Asha's quirks look vaguely familiar. As the first animated Disney heroine of Afro-Latina descent,...

The Terminator franchise has dominated the hearts of Sci-Fi fans worldwide due to lightning striking the cast, the idea, and the film industry at the right time. But that was over thirty years ago, in 1984, you know, back when Terminator was popular? And yes, despite the apocryphal tale of Gale Anne Hurd, who had worked at New World Pictures as Roger Corman's assistant, showing her interest in the Terminator franchise and James Cameron selling the rights for The Terminator series to Hurd for one dollar – fans wonder what's next?
With the promise that Hurd would produce more Terminator flicks only if Cameron would direct them – we all want to know when it's going to happen. Meanwhile, science fiction action fans are impatiently waiting for the most recent uber-bloody stunts featuring their favored robot from tomorrow. What's the plan? Is the entire series dead?

Tim Burton expresses concern over AI imitating his distinctive style, comparing it to the fear of having one's soul taken away. The director acknowledges that his upbringing in Burbank shaped his identity, despite negative experiences, and working for Disney had its ups and downs. Tim Burton's success in Hollywood is evident, with the creation of a popular streaming show and an upcoming sequel to his iconic film, Beetlejuice.
Tim Burton has one of the most iconic cinematic styles in Hollywood. Often described as “gothic fairy tale”, the director's creations have become synonymous with characters exhibiting pale skin and large eyes, but of course there is a lot more to Burton’s work than that. However, in the world of AI generated art, these aspects make it very easy for trained software to create a version of almost any non-Burton character in a way that emulates his style perfectly.

This past summer, as Hollywood faced its second major strike, the president of actors union SAG-AFTRA took the podium. She was without makeup, she was raspy and she was pissed. Gone was the ozone-shattering hairspray and the wild prints plucked right from the zoo. Nowhere in earshot was the dog whistle voice and the dolphin laugh. This was Fran Drescher: not the street-smart bimbo of somehow successful sitcoms and expectedly by-the-numbers romances, but the woman who will do anything to show her loyalty and not back down from anything. She had done it throughout her career through battles with industry execs and cancer, and now she was doing it against some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Wtf Happened to…Fran Drescher?
But to truly understand what the fuck happened to Fran Drescher, we go back to the beginning. And the beginning began when she was born on September 30th,...

Russell Brand made some rare comments about his ex-wife, Katy Perry.
The British actor recently revealed that his short-lived marriage to the “Hot N Cold” singer occurred during a “chaotic” time in his life while appearing on Sunday’s episode of “Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge”.
Brand, 48, and Perry, 38, were married for 14 months after tying the knot in 2010. The English comedian famously called off their marriage via a text message minutes before Perry was set to hit the stage for a gig.

The 2000s were an exciting time for cinema. New ideas, shifting sensibilities, and general freshness came with the new millennium, reflected in the era's movies. This was why the heroes of many noughties movies were often more complex – some even hard to love – and many of the great performances didn't receive the recognition they deserved.
Movie leads like Disenchanted's Giselle and John Constantine from Constantine were charismatic and impactful — they had compelling backstories, showed great depth, and were incredibly nuanced, thanks to great performances. These heroes have an enduring appeal, and are part of the 2000s most accomplished roles – even if they weren't given their due credit.

When it premiered in 2013, Frozen featured so many differences from the usual Disney model that it changed the studio's animated movies forever. The film is another fairy tale adaptation, following the story of "The Snow Queen" but focused on two sisters, Elsa and Anna, as the former deals with her dangerous ice powers. Frozen became a huge hit, as audiences couldn't get songs like "Let It Go" and "Love Is an Open Door" out of their heads. They also fell in love with the adorable snowman Olaf, and his popularity catapulted actor Josh Gad into the spotlight.
The success of the film continued beyond its glowing reviews and many box office achievements with Academy Award wins for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for "Let It Go." Frozen spawned an even more prosperous sequel in 2019, and a third Frozen movie is due in 2025. Years later, Frozen remains as popular and relevant as ever,...

The Ultimatum: Queer Love is incredibly popular on Netflix, and while the premise of bending sexuality and gender in the show is groundbreaking, the soundtrack is also making waves. While Netflix can be heavy-handed with their use of music to comment on the scene's emotion, the songs in The Ultimatum: Queer Love are just too good to ignore. Unlike some of the music from shows such as Love Is Blind or Too Hot To Handle, the soundtrack of The Ultimatum: Queer Love provides an endless array of awesome music. Plus, it’s enjoyable to discover new music, even if the tunes are a little too obvious.
While the drama in The Ultimatum: Queer Love doesn’t need to be exacerbated by music, the soundtrack provides a stinger to important moments in the show. During the first three episodes, original couples Mal Wright and Yoly Rojas, Xander Boger and Vanessa Papa,...

Back in 1989, Disney animation was having a renaissance. "The Little Mermaid" brought fans back to the theaters to see a brand new Disney princess in Ariel, the teenage mermaid who longs for adventures on land. She falls in love with Prince Eric but cannot speak to him after giving her voice to the sea witch Ursula to get her fins replaced by legs. Ariel and Eric ultimately marry at the end of the film. I can’t tell you I knew anything about the character known as She-Ra or her princesses of power. And, really, neither did “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power” creator Noelle Stevenson at the outset. Stevenson admitted she was born too early to engage with the headdress-wearing, cape-rocking Greek goddess, who became successful in her own right after being spun-off from the popular hero known as He-Man in 1985.
But despite never engaging with the property in the moment, Stevenson says She-Ra was “baked into the zeitgeist.” So when she started working on her first show, the animated “Wander Over Yonder,” she found herself working with a group of “Masters of the Universe” fans, putting this character, whom Stevenson only knew by name, into her orbit.
