In the ongoing quest for verifiable ratings data from streaming giants like Amazon and Netflix, Amazon showrunner has Jonathan Shapiro provided a new guidepost.
“Our show is the most binged show in the history of Amazon,” the “Goliath” co-creator and showrunner recently revealed.
Shapiro (“The Practice,” “Boston Legal”), who is a former federal prosecutor who co-created the legal drama with David E. Kelley, made the comments during a keynote address at the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association’s Techtainment 3.0 conference at Loyola Law School.

Sometimes I’m not here to tell you what went wrong with a story. Not what I usually do, but sometimes a story just gets the law right. Doesn’t stop me from writing about it. I can have as much fun explaining why the law works the way it was portrayed in a story as I can explaining why the law doesn’t work the way it was portrayed in a story. In fact, I can have more fun. When I write about why a story is right, no one gets mad at me.
Champions v2 #7 is one of those stories that got it right. For those who haven’t read it, the new Champions comic tells the adventures of some teenaged Marvel super heroes who teamed up after they became disillusioned with the behavior of the adult Marvel super heroes. Particularly their behavior in Civil War II.

The Japanese government has announced it will make it easier to film in public places, something that has been a barrier for international productions wanting to shoot in the country.

David Ellison first created Skydance Productions for his own 2005 directorial debut When All Else Fails, but Skydance Media really started making waves in 2010 when it teamed up with Paramount Pictures for the Coen Brothers Western True Grit.
It went on to become the highest grossing Western ever and cemented the relationship between Skydance Media with Paramount who teamed-up for World War Z, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and other franchises like Star Trek and 2014’s Terminator: Genisys. (Obviously, some of those movies did better than others.)
For his new science fiction movie Life, based on an idea that Ellison came up with, he’s teamed with Sony Pictures, bringing together a cast that includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson as part of the crew of the International Space Station who must examine a sample of life that’s been brought back from Mars.

Leah Remini's scientology docuseries has been picked up for season two.
The actress' expose, Scientology and the Aftermath, was renewed with an expanded second season at A&E, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on Wednesday.

The first season of Scientology and the Aftermath focused on allegations of abuse and misconduct by the Church, and while the organization hasn't taken any formal legal action against the series, Scientology reps haven't been shy about expressing their disapproval.

UK initiative sees Google and Bing working with rights holders.
A new UK initiative which aims to reduce the availability of pirated films, music and TV through search engines has been launched.
Google and Bing, the Motion Picture Association, the Alliance for Intellectual Property (representing a wide range of rights holders) and BPI (the trade body for the UK music industry) have signed up to the agreement.
The voluntary ‘code’ will aim to speed up the demotion of sites hosting illegal content and will see increased technical consultation and information sharing, for example in improving autocomplete suggestions.
The goal is to make it much less likely that users are presented with pirated film, TV or music when using search engines.
The agreement follows a series of government-chaired roundtables involving the Intellectual Property Office (Ipo), the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (Dcms) and Ofcom.
The agreement is in addition to current anti-piracy measures, including court ordered...

The nominees for the SXSW 2017 Gaming Awards are in and, unsurprisingly, it’s Overwatch and Naughty Dog’s action-adventure sequel Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End that lead the pack. The latter scooped up eight nominations in total, including Excellence in Design and Most Memorable Character (Nathan Drake), not to mention that coveted Game of the Year accolade.
Per SXSW’s official site, that title is reserved for “the game that exemplifies overall excellence and creates a distinct gaming experience across all platforms and genres.” Uncharted 4 will be going up against Dishonored 2, Doom, Overwatch and Respawn’s Titanfall 2 for top honors in two months’ time. Other noteworthy nominations include Inside, which got the nod for Excellence in Design. After spending over a decade making Pirates of the Caribbean movies and others with Johnny Depp, director Gore Verbinski has returned to the genre for which he first got attention with 2002’s The Ring…. Horror!
His new psychological thriller, A Cure for Wellness, stars Dane DeHaan (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) as Lockhart, a young finance executive who is assigned by the partners of his company to retrieve their missing CEO, who has gone to Switzerland to receive treatment from the waters under an ancient castle in the Alps. And he has decided not to return, which is a problem since they’re about to close a big deal that requires his presence. Lockhart travels to the castle, only to learn that cell phones and electronics don’t work there, and when he is injured in a near-deadly car crash, he finds himself trapped there as all sorts of weird visions commence.

With just four days left until the first Star Wars spin-off Rogue One hits theaters, the next big Star Wars movie, Star Wars 8, is just a mere 368 days away from arriving in theaters. Production wrapped back in July, but we haven't had any indication yet about when the first trailer for Star Wars 8 will arrive. If one of the film's stars has his way, there wouldn't be any trailers released at all for this highly-anticipated sequel, but, thankfully, it's not up to him.

Lucasfilm and Disney have yet to officially announce the title of Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII, but a rumored title has surfaced from the Avs Forum. They came across an intriguing trademark filing that may have revealed the title.
The title in question is Star Wars: Forces of Destiny. It was recently submitted to the European Union Intellectual Property Office, and the filing covers a ton of different items including toys, games, clothing, and more. If you want to read everything that it covers you can.
It's obvious that something very big is happening with this title, and there's a good chance that it could be for Episode VIII. The title seems to fit in line with where the new saga trilogy started with The Force Awakens. Forces of Destiny seems to move that concept forward.
Again, this is just a rumor because Lucasfilm hasn't officially announced anything yet.

Here at Lrm, we're always trying to give voice to the most passionate and most articulate fans in the world. Here's a submission from longtime reader/commenter UnBoxing Jon. Check it out, and let us know what you think:

Naturally the internet went wild with speculation that the new title for Star Wars: Episode VIII had been discovered.
Except Forces of Destiny doesn't seem quite right, does it? Let's talk about why not.
Other than sounding like a Star Wars themed glam rock concept album, "Forces of Destiny" breaks the essential rule of Star Wars. There is only one Force. Singular. In the first act of Star Wars: A New Hope, Obi Wan Kenobi...

However, with Star Wars: Episode VIII coming out in just about a year, fans are just as eager for any kind of information related to that movie, like an official title for example. Well, in a roundabout way, Disney may have revealed the title for Star Wars 8.

With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story‘s theatrical release so very close, the legions of fans of that galaxy far, far away will soon turn their attention to director Rian Johnson’s follow-up to J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and some fresh new rumors relating to the film have already begun to pervade the web. Up to this point we’ve all been referring to the movie as Star Wars: Episode VIII, but now, thanks to a recent trademark filing at the European Union Intellectual Property Office, we may finally have an official title: Star Wars: Forces of Destiny.
First off, it’s important to point out that these titles don’t always relate to a studio’s big screen projects, and more often than not the actual movie will wind up being called something completely different – that said, on occasion they have panned out, and...

Chances are that Disney and Lucasfilm are a little more careful than this, but it was submitted today to European Union Intellectual Property Office and covers a lot of different items. In fact, that list is over 2000 words and covers everything from toys to clothing. So, what is the title they've registered? Star Wars: Forces of Destiny. It's a title which certainly fits after The Force Awakens, and with Rogue One right around the corner, the timing is definitely interesting. For now, it's obviously best to take this with a pinch of salt, but what do you guys think about this title? Directed by Rian Johnson,...

The slate includes Fallen Idol, a remake of the 1948 Carol Reed / Graham Greene crime noir, and airship disaster story Hindenburg.
The three are being developed in association with long-term Parkes+MacDonald Productions partner ImageNation Abu Dhabi. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald will produce each title, with Parkes+MacDonald president of production Evan Hayes serving as executive producer.

Need For Speed publisher EA could well be gearing-up to announce a new entry in the series if a recent trademark registration is anything to go by.
As per VG247, a trademark for one Need For Speed Arena has been spotted over on the European Union Intellectual Property Office website, although little else can be gleaned from the page other than a name.
The ‘Goods and Services’ section of the profile does, however, confirm that it relates to “computer game software,” with further mention being made of an “on-line computer game” among its intended services.
Assuming Need For Speed Arena is in fact a future title being published by EA, there’s no telling whether it’s intended to be a main series release or something else entirely. There’s every chance that this could be some sort of mobile title featuring a multiplayer component, but we likely won’t...

It takes a special kind of patience to conquer the challenges of being a teacher. You're faced with temper tantrums, bullying, utter refusals to acknowledge reality - oh, and you have to deal with the kids, too. A recent Reddit thread invited teachers to spill the details on the most absurd things they've heard from their students' parents, and it's going to take a little bit more than a few apples to make up for the madness. 1. "This girl didn't study and skipped most of the questions on a test. Mom came in to argue about her daughter's failing grade...

It’s really all the studios want to make, whether it’s an adaptation of a well-known video game, a remake, a comic book property, a popular, best-selling book or some form of branded entertainment. Remember that ridiculously addictive Gwent card game that every Npc in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt seemed to be obsessed with playing? Well, developer CD Projekt Red clearly loves it just as much as its fans, as they’re seemingly in the process of creating a spinoff title for it.
As spotted by website NerdLeaks (via VideoGamer), a trademark has been filed with “class 9 and 41 into the European Union Intellectual Property Office” which pertains to the video game and software categories and includes what is presumed to be the game’s official logo (below).
The switch from epic fantasy-rpg to slow-paced card game may seem like a bizarre genre change for CD Projekt, but card games are all the rage right now. The likes of Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft and Jagex’s recent RuneScape spin-off Chronicle: RuneScape Legends have found great success, so there’s no reason why a standalone...
