Matthew McConaugheyused to be a rom-com legend before he was Coop in Interstellar. He made movies with leading ladies like Kate Hudson in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and one of his most underrated rom-com adventures is Failure to Launch. McConaughey plays Tripp, a man in his 30s, who lives with his parents despite being a ladies' man, and his parents (played by Kathy Batesand Terry Bradshaw) hire Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker) to get him out of their home.
It isn't the best romantic comedy of all time, but the movie is genuinely funny. But with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 23%, you'd think that it was responsible for the death of someone's mother. Yes, you have to experience a naked Bradshaw while watching the movie, but it does have an all-star cast. Alongside McConaughey and Parker are Bradley Cooper, Zooey Deschanel, and Justin Bartha as Tripp and Paula's friends,...

Is there anyone as disappointed in their adaptations as master of horror Clive Barker? Okay, part time Wizard and full-time curmudgeon Alan Moore is probably the most upset at his work being adapted but Clive is a close second. The sad part is that while he has had fewer of his novels or short stories adapted than someone like Stephen King, he has played a part in more of them and been let down more often than not. He also didn’t have a great beginning with film as his first screenplay Transmutations or Underworld he ended up hating. He first adapted his own work with Rawhead Rex in 1986 and hated the end product there too. Other than 1987’s Hellraiser which he wrote and directed, there hasn’t been something that he was disappointed in or was butchered by the studio and he has become a bit jaded. His films...

Zach Galifianakis is easily one of the most praiseworthy actor cum comedians in the entire entertainment industry, and it’s not just because he’s good at delivering jokes that leave his audiences wheezing with laughter. Rather, it’s because, as famed as he is for roasting others, he is equally famous for getting roasted in return, even if it’s most scripted.

One of TV's most recognizable (and highest-paid) actresses, Sarah Jessica Parker has an unsurprisingly fabulous net worth. Parker started appearing in films in the 1980s, with her first major role being Rusty in Footloose. She continued to work steadily, famously playing the enchanting witch Sarah Sanderson in Disney's 1993 cult classic, Hocus Pocus. But it would be her role as Sex and the City's shoe-obsessed protagonist Carrie Bradshaw that catapulted Parker to the A-list. The wildly successful HBO show spawned two movies, and its sequel series And Just Like That is coming back for season 3.
Parker was born in Nelsonville, Ohio to mother Barbara and father Stephen, and she's the fourth of eight siblings. From an early age, Parker knew she wanted to act, and made her Broadway debut at age 11. Outside of her acting career, Parker dated Robert Downey Jr. from 1984-1991. In the early '90s, Matthew McConaugheys big break came by way of the stoner comedy Dazed and Confused, and from there, hed go on to be featured in a number of dramatic roles. A Time to Kill, Contact, and Amistad all helped raise his profile, yet somewhere around the year 2000, Hollywood began to see him in a different light. Suddenly, he began to star in a plethora of romantic comedies, and that was okay with McConaughey, until it wasnt.

Matthew McConaughey recently told Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios on the latter’s “Good Trouble” podcast that he abandoned Hollywood and moved his family to Texas when the industry refused to let him branch out of romantic comedies. The Oscar winner was a titan of the genre at the time, with films like “The Wedding Planner,” “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” “Failure To Launch,” “Fool’s Gold” and “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” all surpassing or coming close to the $100 million mark at the worldwide box office.

Vince Vaughn has always been widely praised for his iconic comedic performances, but one of his more nuanced dramatic turns in True Detective season 2 remains criminally underrated. Since he broke out in the 90s, Vaughn has been primarily known for his comedic roles in movies like Anchorman, Wedding Crashers, and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. Along with frequent co-stars Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Will Ferrell, Vaughn became renowned as a member of the Frat Pack, a group of actors who dominated the comedy genre with movies like Old School and Zoolander throughout the 2000s.
But Vaughn has always mixed more complex dramatic roles into his filmography alongside those iconic comedic performances. He played Norman Bates in the 1998 remake of Psycho, the hard-edged Sergeant Howell in the World War II epic Hacksaw Ridge, and vengeful prisoner Bradley Thomas in the brutal action thriller Brawl in Cell Block 99. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days has a 42% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. The rom-com's audience score is 77%, making it Matthew McConaughey's best in the genre. The film showcases McConaughey's chemistry with Kate Hudson and is more entertaining than other rom-coms.

Matthew McConaughey's $130M Trending On Netflix Is A Harsh Reminder Of A Disappointing 5-Year Streak
Failure to Launch's resurgence on Netflix is a reminder of McConaughey's rom-com era and his absence from live-action films since 2019. Despite critics' disapproval, the film's $130M box office success and McConaughey's performance make it a nostalgic hit for audiences. McConaughey's upcoming live-action projects, like The Lost Bus and The Rivals of Amziah King, will mark his return to the big screen.
The recent popularity of the 2006 rom-com Failure to Launch has stirred up some jarring recollections about Matthew McConaughey's career, including an ongoing dry streak in film. For some, being privy to Failure to Launch's trending status means remembering that McConaughey once fronted a string of poorly received romance movies in the 2000s, i.e., The Wedding Planner (2001) and Fool's Gold (2008). Failure to Launch did exactly that back in 2006, at least with critics. The 18-year-old romantic comedy that teamed up Matthew McConaughey with Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker had problems finding professional praise nearly two decades ago, but Failure to Launch has suddenly become a streaming success. McConaughey and SJPs rom-com currently ranks No. 7 on Netflixs Global Top 10 (per Tudum). And during its first week among the 10 best movies, the film amassed 7.8 million hours viewed and 4.8 million views.
Now, those Failure to Launch critiques were scathing to be sure, which resulted in the movie registering only 23% on the Tomatometer against 151 reviews. And according to Rotten Tomatoes, moviegoers didnt find McConaughey and SJPs collaboration all that enjoyable either. After all, Failure to Launch holds a splatting 52% audience score. But its hard to believe the Rt ratings truly reflected what was happening in 2006.

Despite being poorly-reviewed, Matthew McConaughey's romantic comedy Failure to Launch is now a hit on Netflix globally. The film explores themes of adulthood and independence through McConaughey's character living with his parents at 35. The success of this formulaic rom-com from McConaughey's career in the 2000s reflects a different era in the film industry.

Despite a lukewarm 23% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Failure to Launch is experiencing a resurgence in popularity, climbing to the number 2 spot on Netflix's movie charts. The 2006 romantic comedy stars Matthew McConaughey as Tripp, a charming but unmotivated 35-year-old man who still lives with his parents. Concerned, his parents (played by Kathy Bates and Terry Bradshaw) hire Paula, a professional "interventionist," portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker, to coax him out of their home. It was also another one of McConaughey's romantic comedies which featured him leaning on the poster, a fun quirk of the Noughties.

There are a few different images that could come to mind when picturing Matthew McConaughey. Maybe it’s the “Alright Alright Alright” Guru. Or maybe it’s the Oscar Winner. Or maybe, at worst, maybe it’s the King of 21st-Century Rom-Coms. While the latter truly made McConaughey a household name, rom-coms also pushed him to consider leaving Hollywood altogether.
In an interview with fellow Texan Glen Powell, McConaughey said, “When I had my rom-com years, there was only so much bandwidth I could give to those, and those were some solid hits for me. But I wanted to try some other stuff. Of course I wasn’t getting it, so I had to leave Hollywood for two years.”

Matthew McConaughey is looking back at his career and revealing that after starring in a string of romantic comedies, he almost quit Hollywood.
The Dallas Buyers Club actor starred in films like The Wedding Planner (2001), How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003), Failure to Launch (2006), and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009), before wanting to move into a different genre.
“I’ve usually zigged when I felt like Hollywood wanted me to zag. When I had my rom-com years, there was only so much bandwidth I could give to those, and those were some solid hits for me,” McConaughey told Interview. “But I wanted to try some other stuff.”
McConaughey said that he “wasn’t getting” the roles that he wanted and opted “to leave Hollywood for two years.”
“Dude, it was scary. I had long talks with my wife about needing to find a new vocation,” McConaughey said about taking a pause from acting.

Matthew McConaughey recently told Glen Powell in an Interview magazine discussion that “it was scary” quitting Hollywood for two years when romantic comedies were all that was being offered to him early in his career. McConaughey was a king of the genre thanks to films like “The Wedding Planner,” “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days,” “Failure To Launch,” “Fool’s Gold,” and “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past,” nearly all of which grossed over $100 million at the worldwide box office. But the more rom-coms McConaughey made the less Hollywood wanted him starring in anything else.

"I Had To Leave Hollywood": Why Matthew McConaughey Considered Retirement Early In His Acting Career
Matthew McConaughey considered early retirement due to rom-com typecasting, prompting a two-year hiatus from Hollywood. After feeling limited by his roles, he returned to critical acclaim with serious performances in films like Dallas Buyer Club. The actor's career saw a resurgence with acclaimed roles in Magic Mike, True Detective, and Interstellar.
Matthew McConaughey explains why he considered retirement early in his acting career and why he "had to leave Hollywood." After breaking through with a brief but memorable role in Richard Linklater's coming-of-age comedy Dazed and Confused, some of McConaughey's first successful lead roles came in the legal drama A Time to Kill, the sci-fi film Contact, and Steven Spielberg's historical drama Amistad. However, during the 2000s, McConaughey became known for romantic comedies, which caused him to take a two-year hiatus from acting, though he came back better than ever.

A decade before Knight and Day was released, a movie like it would have killed with audiences: Come on, it starred Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz and looked to perfectly mash humor and action in a way that so few male/female-led action-comedies had for years. Yet, it didn’t connect. But why? There are a lot of reasons, really, and not just, as Roy Miller would say, “one of those things.” Through lousy marketing, hokey promotion, poorly timed sneak previews, and even Katie Holmes, Knight and Day fizzled, less “beautiful dress” than beautiful mess…But it did at least inspire a Bollywood remake, so suck on that, Vanilla Sky! Let’s find out: What Happened to this Movie?!

Throughout their messy and prolonged courtship, "Bones" couple Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and FBI agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) played their fair share of romantic musical chairs. They both tested the waters of a workplace relationship fairly early on in the show's run, with Brennan hopping into bed with Booth's FBI colleague Tim "Sully" Sullivan (Eddie McClintock) -- and causing a bit of a ruckus among Fox's censors -- in season 2. This was around the same time that Booth restarted his own amorous association with the then-newly-appointed boss of the Jeffersonian Institute's forensic division, Camille "Cam" Saroyan (Tamara Taylor).

True Detective season 1 is considered one of the greatest seasons of any TV show thanks to Matthew McConaughey's exceptional performance as Rust Cohle. The chemistry between McConaughey and Woody Harrelson's characters, Rust and Marty, is a major reason why season 1 is celebrated and memorable. Director Cary Joji Fukunaga's Emmy-winning work on season 1, including the iconic six-minute tracking shot, helped elevate the series and highlight his talents.
True Detective season 1 has often been considered one of the greatest seasons of any television show in the 21st century. The HBO miniseries originally aired in January 2014 and received immediate critical acclaim upon its release. The celebrated series was created by Nic Pizzolatto, who wrote the scripts for all three seasons of True Detective. Pizzolatto originally wrote True Detective as a novel but was able to adapt his epic tale for television. True Detective season 4 is scheduled to premiere on January 14, 2024.

No Hard Feelings is a romantic comedy that pays tribute to '90s and 2000s rom-coms, evoking a nostalgic charm and infusing deep emotional connections into the evolving relationship of Maddie and Percy. American Pie, I Love You, Beth Cooper, and Big Daddy are movies that share similar elements with No Hard Feelings, including raunchy humor, faking relationships, and characters helping each other grow. Just Go With It, She's All That, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, The Girl Next Door, Superbad, Can't Buy Me Love, and Failure To Launch are other films that capture the essence of No Hard Feelings and are worth watching for fans of the genre.
The 2023 romantic comedy, No Hard Feelings, is a laugher-packed delight that leaves audiences wondering which other films might capture a similar tone. The story revolves around Maddie Barker, who faces the loss of her mother's home. She is hired by Percy Becker's overprotective parents,...

One of the most culturally impactful shows on television of the 1990s, HBO's Sex and the City was revolutionary for its depiction of female sexuality and friendship. The show followed four single thirty-something women living in New York City and experiencing the dating scene. At the core of the show is the characters' love for New York City and fashion and their support of one another as they all have different opinions about sex and love. While the actors in Sex and the City had some name recognition, the success of the series made A-list stars out of its main cast.
Sex and the City was a massive critical success, and it won multiple Emmy Awards and Golden Globe Awards during its run. While the writing and themes of the show contributed to its appeal, the main cast members brought the likable Sex and the City characters to life. Fans'...

Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo pressed Florida governor Ron DeSantis about his flailing campaign during an interview on “Sunday Morning Futures,” and the presidential hopeful was quick to pivot and pin the blame on media narratives.
“What’s going on with your campaign?” Bartiromo asked bluntly. “There was a lot of optimism about you running for president earlier in the year.”
Referencing a Politico Playbook article titled “Failure to Launch,” which analyzed DeSantis’ stalled campaign from poor polling to fundraising drop-off, Bartiromo asked “What happened?”

Matthew McConaughey is revealing that he is, in fact, the mastermind behind the masterful “McConaissance” branding.
The Oscar winner detailed how he transitioned from playing the leading man in rom-coms like “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” “The Wedding Planner,” and “Failure to Launch” and taking on more serious roles in the 2010s, such as “The Lincoln Lawyer,” “True Detective,” and “Dallas Buyers Club.”
“Hollywood was not offering me [those roles] before,” McConaughey admitted during Chelsea Handler’s iHeart “Dear Chelsea” podcast.

Matthew McConaughey was a king of the romantic-comedy genre in the early 2000s, and it turns out it’s all thanks to a fortune teller. The Oscar winner already had one rom-com hit under his belt with 2001’s “The Wedding Planner” when the offer to star opposite Kate Hudson in “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” came along. Did McConaughey really want to dive right into another rom-com?
“I remember considering whether I was going to do it or not one night while on a walk down Sunset Blvd.,” McConaughey told Vanity Fair as part of a new “How to Lose a Guy” oral history. “Suddenly, this guy comes up out of nowhere to me — he was a fortune teller guru [and] goes, ‘Can I tell you your fortune real quick?'” McConaughey said. “I was like, ‘Yeah, man. Sure.'”

The animated TV series King of the Hill has featured the voices of many celebrated actors, including Matthew McConaughey, who played a character six years after his breakthrough movie role in Dazed and Confused. The actor achieved romantic lead status for 2000s comedies such as How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Failure to Launch, and The Wedding Planner before moving on to prestige dramas like Mud and Dallas Buyers Club. Over the course of its 13 seasons, King of the Hill had voices from such actors as Betty White, Brad Pitt, Chris Rock, and Laura Dern, and McConaughey's role stands out as it has a weighty message.
While Matthew McConaughey is known for his movie roles, he has also had an acclaimed TV career, particularly for playing Rust Cohle in season 1 of the HBO crime drama True Detective and Roy McDaniel in a few episodes of Eastbound & Down.

While Jackie Chan has always been an affable and comedic performer, even going back to his early martial arts films from the 1970s, something curious happened when he broke into the Hollywood mainstream in the late 1990s. Producers looked at Chan's playful, heroic, somewhat goofy charm and shifted it into overdrive. Chan's American films, as a result, tended to be incredibly broad, full of silly mugging, "culture clash" humor, and a general lack of stakes. Chan's first major American hit was Brett Ratner's "Rush Hour" in 1998, a serviceable but largely unremarkable police comedy wherein Chan played opposite Chris Tucker. That film was such a runaway success (it made over 244 million worldwide) that a pattern was immediately set for Chan. Pair him with an unlikely co-star, put him in generic action scenarios, and watch the money roll in.

As the calendar flips over to 2023, Prime Video is attempting to start a new year on the right track with fresh seasons of some major originals.
Prime Videos’ list of new releases for January 2023 is highlighted by Hunters season 2 on Jan. 13. The first season of Hunters was set in 1977 and followed young Jonah Heidelbaum’s (Logan Lerman) introduction to a world of Nazi-hunting. After a lengthy wait for season 2, the fresh (and final) batch of episodes will find Jonah and friends venturing to South American to take out none other than Adolf Hitler, himself.
While Nazi-hunting undoubtedly takes up a lot of streaming space, two other Amazon original series of note arrive in January. The Rig, a supernatural thriller set on a Scottish oil rig, premieres Jan. 6. That will be followed by season 2 of fantasy role-playing animated series The Legend of Vox Machina on Jan. 20.

“Our mother’s zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren, and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did,” True and Lillie Parker, Alley’s two children, who are 30 and 28 respectively, wrote in their tribute.

Almost immediately after the news broke, John Travolta, took to Instagram to remember his late pal and “Look Who’s Talking” co-star.
“Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had,” he wrote alongside a solo shot of Alley and a throwback pic of the two of them. “I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again.

“Amores Perros” and “Instructions Not Included” producer Monica Lozano is touting mambo and soccer projects at AFM, both of which will debut on Prime Video in November.
The soccer documentary about one of Mexico’s greatest players, “Hugo Sanchez, el Gol y la Gloria,” launches on Nov. 18 while “Mambo Dreams, el sueño de ayer” drops Nov. 30.
Described as the definitive chronicle of Mexico’s greatest athlete, “Hugo Sanchez” traces his early start as a university team player to his stellar time at Spain’s Real Madrid, and eventual fall from grace.
The Prime Video Original will launch worldwide on the streaming platform and will be available to linear TV and other outlets after a holdback, said Lozano.
“Hugo Sanchez” is directed and co-produced by Francisco Javier Padilla, best known for his career-launching feature debut, “Suave Patria, starring Karla Souza, Omar Chaparro and Hector Suarez. He’s currently developing docu series...

Matthew McConaughey's career has gone through some rather distinct stages. There were his early days in the '90s when he took on serious parts in films like "Contact" and "Amistad," which got his name out there in Hollywood. Then, in the 2000s, he was mostly associated with romantic comedies like "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" and "Failure to Launch," changing his image to more of a handsome leading man type. Fearing that his streak of rom coms was leading to him being typecast, McConaughey took a hiatus from acting from 2009 to 2011, returning once again to more serious dramatic roles in movies like "Magic Mike" and "The Lincoln Lawyer" before he hit acting gold, winning a Best Actor Oscar for his performance in "Dallas Buyer's Club" in 2013.
The shift of focus was dubbed "The McConaissance," and McConaughey's standing as a legitimate and desirable actor in Hollywood soared once again.

The Sanderson Sisters are back! After 29 years, Hocus Pocus 2 is now on Disney+. At the time of the original film’s release, a sequel probably seemed like a total long shot. Critics panned Hocus Pocus, and box office numbers weren’t exactly spectacular either; it’s believed that the film may have lost about 16.5 million in its original theatrical run. Still, Disney continued to air the film annually on the Disney Channel and Freeform (formerly ABC Family), and a generation of kids was practically raised on the spooky season staple.
In October 2018, the 25th anniversary of the film, the first week of Hocus Pocus viewings on Freeform averaged 8.2 million viewers. The film likely became a cult hit due to its tone, which is a bit more adult than the typical live-action Disney fare, and the campy performances of the film’s villains, the Sanderson Sisters, portrayed by Bette Midler,...

After dropping the epic “Lord of the Rings” television series on Prime Video last month, it’s no surprise the streaming giant is taking it easy this October. They still have plenty of new shows and movies coming out, though none quite on the scale of their journey to Middle Earth.
That being said, they’re transitioning from the world of fantasy to science fiction with their new series “The Peripheral.” Touted as being from the creators of HBO’s “Westworld,” Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, the time-traveling series is based on author William Gibson’s bestselling sci-fi novel.
Per an official synopsis: “The Peripheral” centers on Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America. Flynne is smart, ambitious, and doomed. She has no future; until the future comes calling for her. “The Peripheral” is...
