Sure, he landed big roles, like in Michael Bay’s “Pearl Harbor,” but the former teen idol never got much respect for his acting. Now, however, thanks to his roles in “Oppenheimer,” “Trap” and “Black Mirror,” we’re in the middle of a Hartnett-issance

He’s back in action mode in his new thriller “Fight or Flight,” which is, essentially, “Bullet Train,” but on a plane: His mercenary character has to fight off several assassins who want him and his client dead.

Starz has announced the movie and TV titles that will be available on the service in May. The Starz May 2025 schedule includes the season four finale of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, plus movies such as Flight Risk, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, and the American Pie franchise.

A blockbuster-worthy lineup of fan-favorite films will also be available. In season three of “Raising Kanan,” Kanan Stark finally stopped living in the shadow of his mother and assumed control of his life, taking matters into his own hands by orchestrating the deaths of Ronnie and Detective Howard.

Exclusive: Patrick Fischer and Richard Kondal’s UK-based outfit, Big Safari Productions, and Hannah Leader and Amory Leader’s Big Book Media are launching what they’ve described as a “commercially-driven” film banner called Cobalt 27.

The group has said the company will be dedicated to developing, packaging, and fully financing a slate of “commercially driven, globally appealing films in the $10–50 million range.”

Cobalt 27’s first project is The Beauty of Sharks with director Peter Chelsom (Funny Bones), a thriller set in Amalfi, Italy, in 1958. Producers are Amory Leader, Chip Diggins, Lee Brazier, and Colin Vaines. Casting is through Susanne Scheel (Past Lives), with Indiana Productions partnering for the Italian shoot.

Vertical Entertainment has released the first trailer for Fight or Flight, which stars Oppenheimer veteran Josh Hartnett. The film follows exiled American agent Lucas Reyes (Hartnett), who is given one last chance to redeem himself in the form of tracking down an international high-value target on a flight from Bangkok to San Fransisco. To make matters even more difficult for him, the plane is full of skilled assassins from around the world who have orders to kill them both. The pair must work together to fight for their lives, and stranded at 37,000 feet in the air, the stakes have never been higher. Fight or Flight was written by Brooks McLaren and D.J. Cotrona, with James Madigan directing. The Mandalorianvet Katee Sackhoff also stars in the film, along with Charithra Chandran and Julian Kostov.

Nehemiah Persoff, who appeared as Barbra Streisand’s rabbi father in “Yentl” and had roles in hundreds of films and TV series including “Some Like It Hot” and “Twins,” died Tuesday in San Luis Obispo, Calif. He was 102.

His death was confirmed by his daughter, Dahlia Reano. Beyond prolific, Persoff racked up almost 200 credits in film and TV in a career that began in the very earliest days of television.

Persoff broke through in the 1959 movie “Some Like It Hot,” in which he played mobster boss Little Bonaparte. (The actor had been the last surviving member of the cast.) Early in his career, he was known for playing villainous tough guys, such as in Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Wrong Man,” starring Henry Fonda, and “Al Capone,” starring Rod Steiger, in which he had a substantial role as Johnny Torrio, the mobster who mentored Capone only to be replaced by him.

This celebrated dysfunctional family story won four Oscars, the most deserved easily being Alvin Sargent’s superb adapted screenplay. The viewer buzz initially centered on the surprise of Mary Tyler Moore’s unexpected casting against type, but even more alarming was author Judith Guest’s scary message that ‘perfect’ families are an illusion. We found the drama absorbing and bought the performances 100 — Sutherland, Hirsch, Hutton, McGovern. It’s clearly Robert Redford’s best job of direction.

Based on the New Yorker article by Jonathan Harr, The Burial follows a charismatic personal injury lawyer famous for his impressive track record and loudly unconventional approach who decides to help a funeral home owner save his family business from a predatory corporate behemoth. In a move to bring emotional resonance to a dry contract law case, the lawyer digs up an unexpected and complex web of race, power and oppression that forces everyone to examine long-buried prejudices they didn’t know they had.

Czech showrunner and screenwriter Štěpán Hulík (“Burning Bush”) and Slovak director Michal Blaško have landed their new drama miniseries “Suspicion” in this year’s Berlin Series sidebar, making history as the first series from the region to do so.

The series follows callous and bitter nurse Hana Kučerová (Klára Melíšková) as she is accused of euthanasia following rumors of her violations and poor treatment of patients. When she is jailed, her frayed relationship with her daughter Tereza (Denisa Barešová) is put to the test as she is left with very few options to prove her innocence.

Hulík’s screenplay is foundationally built on the character of Hana, whose icy disposition challenges the assumed innocence of a protagonist. Melíšková’s portrayal brings a chill to every scene, whether one questions her guilt or not. “Suspicion” is a snapshot of social conspiracy, and points as much at presupposition as it does at justice.
