Shot live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, “Muy Católico” sees Lopez musing on getting older, Latino family dynamics, generational clashes, superstitions and cultural quirks.

Lopez currently stars in his multicam NBC sitcom “Lopez vs Lopez” alongside his real-life daughter Mayan Lopez. The series, which was recently renewed for a third season, explores the dysfunction, reconnection, pain and joy of George and Mayan’s real-life father-daughter relationship through a fictionalized lens.

Lopez has had a career in Hollywood that spans five decades, across television, film, stand-up comedy and late-night television. He has a handful of HBO comedy specials, including “The Wall,” “It’s Not Me, It’s You,” “Tall, Dark and Chicano” and “America’s Mexican.” His most recent stand-up hour was “We’ll Do It for Half,” which debuted in 2020 on Netflix.

Oscar-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet casually spoiled the return of a major character in Dune: Messiah.

Ahead of Dune: Part Two’s theatrical release, Chalamet confirmed that Jason Momoa’s character Duncan Idaho would return for the potential third installment of Warner Bros.' sci-fi action franchise. Speaking with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, the Paul Atreides actor doesn’t really consider Momoa’s return as a spoiler, since fans of Frank Herbert’s original Dune novels have always known about it. "Momoa will be back," Chalamet revealed. "Not in this one, but in [Messiah]... It's weird because they're so secretive about the script and the trailer, but [the books] have been out there for 70 years."

Max’s first full month without ‘HBO’ in its rebranded title has a selection that kicks off summer 2023 in fine fashion. Three of the four iterations of “A Star Is Born,” including the most recent remake starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, are streaming on Max in June. The 1954 and 1976 films land June 1, while the 2018 version arrives June 8.

To prepare for Margot Robbie’s performance in “Barbie” come July, one could watch one of her more intense roles as Tonya Harding in “I, Tonya” (2017). For some lighter summer watches, viewers might consider “Dolphin Tale” (2010), “Grease” (1978), “Hairspray” (2007) or “Tooth Fairy” (2010).

The highly discussed music limited series “The Idol” is set to premiere on Max on June 4. Starring Lily-Rose Depp, pop singer The Weeknd, and Dan Levy, the show involves a rising pop star Jocelyn (played by Depp) who gets involved with Tedros (The Weeknd), a sleazy nightclub owner who may also be a cult leader. She wants a rock career, while he’s focused on exploiting everyone he meets.

John Refoua, a prolific film editor best know for his work on James Cameron’s “Avatar,” for which he received an Oscar nomination, died on Sunday following a 14-month battle with cancer. He was 58 years old.

His wife, Serena, made the news public on Monday.

“Dear friends, my brilliant, sweet, creative husband John Djahanshah Refoua passed away last night May 14 surrounded by family and friends who loved him. He was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare bile duct cancer, 15 months ago,” she wrote on Facebook.

“Despite the pain and complexities of this aggressive disease, he faced it with courage and grit. He continued to work and edit on James Cameron’s ‘Avatar 3’ right up to his final weeks. His life’s trajectory was quite unique and anything he touched, he made better. He loved music, movies, politics, traveling, vintage cars, science fiction, and his 4 year old granddaughter Avery Sophia,” the statement concluded.

John Refoua, the Oscar-nominated editor who worked on Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water, has died. He was 58.

Refoua died from complications from a rare bile duct cancer called cholangiocarcinoma, according to his wife, Serena Bell Refoua, who shared the news of his death in a Facebook post. He was diagnosed with cancer in early 2022.

“Despite the pain and complexities of this aggressive disease, he faced it with courage and grit,” Bell Refoua wrote. “He continued to work and edit on James Cameron’s Avatar 3 right up to his final weeks. His life’s trajectory was quite unique and anything he touched, he made better.”

An experienced and widely respected editor, Refoua was a longtime collaborator of Cameron, working with the legendary filmmaker on the Avatar franchise, the Fox sci-fi series Dark Angel and the Titanic documentary, Ghosts of the Abyss. Refoua, along with Cameron and Stephen E. Rivkin...

Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by FX limited series Under the Banner of Heaven. This adaptation of the non-fiction book by John Krakauer stars Andrew Garfield as a Mormon police detective whose faith is shaken when investigating a murder involving the church.

It’s not all just FX on the TV side of things for Hulu this month, however. The streamer is debuting second seasons of its series The Hardy Boys (April 6) and Woke (April 8). There isn’t much to report from Hulu’s original movies arm aside from true crime documentary Captive Audience on April 21. But that doc about one family’s 50-year journey for justice sounds like a must-watch.

The film written by Meg Turner finds a young Abigale Archer friendless and alone in a brutal Montana winter during the 1870s—fighting for survival and to retrieve her one earthly possession, her family’s horse, from a gang of bloodthirsty bandits. Zickel is playing Pa Archer, a gaunt but imposing figurehead that has a commanding energy balanced by an instinctive compassion. In the throes of a brutal Montana winter, Pa’s steadfastness and sense of purpose—along with the skills he learned as a soldier in the Civil War—are the foundation on which his family’s survival rests. Jann is producing alongside David Codron.

Thomas Lennon is developing the animated comedy “The Post Guard” at Fox, Variety has learned exclusively.

The series is described as a workplace adventure comedy following the rag tag crew of humans, turtles, seals and mermaids at the secretive, and often overlooked mashup of the Coast Guard and Post Office, as they scour the high seas to find and deliver messages in bottles, while settling who among them is in charge of the ship’s menial tasks, like resetting the WiFi.

Fox has ordered a presentation for the project. Lennon will write and executive produce, with Peter Principato also executive producing. Fox Entertainment will produce along with Bento Box Entertainment.

Paramount Plus is building out the cast of the upcoming series “The Offer,” which tells the story of the making of “The Godfather,” with the additions of Giovanni Ribisi, Colin Hanks, and Dan Fogler.

The trio join previously announced stars Miles Teller and Matthew Goode. “The Offer” is based on the experience of Oscar-winning producer Albert S. Ruddy (Teller), about the behind-the-scenes events of the original 1972 film. Goode will play producer Robert Evans.

Ribisi is set to star as mob boss Joe Colombo. In addition to running one of the notorious Five Families of the American Mafia, Colombo also founded the Italian-American Civil Rights League. The League originally opposed the making of “The Godfather” before Ruddy met with Colombo and secured his support.

Sky, the Comcast-backed pay-tv broadcaster in the U.K., has added “outdated attitudes” disclaimers to a batch of films, including the original animated “Jungle Book,” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “The Last Samurai.”

Upon searching for Disney’s “The Jungle Book” on movie service Sky Cinema, a description now reads, “This film has outdated attitudes, language and cultural depictions which may cause offence today.” The same warning has been applied to Jon Favreau’s 2016 re-imagining of the classic movie.

A check of nascent streamer Disney Plus, whose content is also available on Sky under the companies’ output deal, shows that that service already makes clear that films such as the original “Jungle Book” “contains outdated cultural depictions.” As previously reported, Disney had the warnings in place around the 2019 launch of the streamer.

Altogether, some 16 films on Sky Cinema now have an attached disclaimer, including Disney’s 1941 animated film “Dumbo;” kids...

The actor, screenwriter, and comedian has set up the comedy project “Winos” at the upcoming short-form content platform. In the series, after failing spectacularly in Silicon Valley, a misguided entrepreneur (Lennon) moves one valley over into wine country and tries to turn a run-down vineyard into a success. “Winos” then follows the antics of the rag-tag group of employees who have no business running a winery.

In addition to starring, Lennon created the series and will write and executive produce. Peter Principato will also executive produce. 20th Century Fox Television will produce.

Thomas Lennon has been cast in the title role of the Fox single-camera comedy pilot “Richard Lovely,” Variety has learned exclusively.

The project follows Richard Lovely, the disgruntled author of the best-selling children’s book series, “Mr. Mouse.” He doesn’t hate children, but rather just everything about them. After a publicity fiasco involving an unexpectedly savvy 9-year-old kid, Mr. Mouse appears in Richard’s real life as he is forced into an unlikely father/son relationship that will change his life forever.

Lennon will star alongside previously announced cast members Nicole Sun and Wendie Malick.

The news comes a year after Lennon was cast in the Fox comedy pilot “Dan the Weatherman.” That pilot was said to be well-received at the network with Lennon in particular earning considerable praise. You know, it's been awhile since I've seen an awesomely bad martial arts competition movie. There was Streetfighter, Bloodsport, I even count Balls of Fury on some level. But this new film, Lady Bloodfight already has caught my interest.

Now, I'm not saying I don't enjoy terrible martial arts competition movies. I love them. You get all the weird characters with different styles and quirks. In fact, if I were to criticize the new Iron Fist Netflix series it would be that I wanted more unique challengers for Iron Fist to go up against. My favorite part of the series is when he took on the three challenges in one episode. That's the kinda thing I expect from martial arts movies. It's also the kind of thing the Iron Fist comics are leading towards.

News from Hollywood, Los Angeles: Liam Neeson is starring in a new action movie. Except it's technically an action-comedy... and it's called The Revenger.

Helmed by Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer, there is no official synopsis accompanying the announcement, but it's pretty clear what is going on: the Taken star is taking the mick out of himself.

This follows in the footsteps of Neeson's glorious cameo in Ted 2, where he also has fun with his action persona. Then there's his voice role as Good Cop / Bad Cop in The Lego Movie, which may well be the best thing he's ever done, ever, ever, ever.

With production set to begin later this year, Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is slowly gathering its cast, with Deadline reporting that Dan Folger (Balls of Fury, Fansboy) has joined as the movies main Muggle (what wizards and witches refer to as normal humans, if you somehow have let Harry Potter pass you by) character, a first for the series. What’s interesting is his character’s name, Jacob, has been bandied about as the rival to Eddie Redmayne’s magizoologist Newt Scarmander. Folger had been in line for the role alongside Josh Gad, John Karsinski, and Michael Cera, which is quite strange since all are known as comedic actors, and really makes you wonder what type of villain this movie is going for. Dan Fogler has been cast in Warner Bros’ upcoming adaptation of the J.K. Rowling book “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” an individual with knowledge of the casting told TheWrap. Fogler will play Jacob, a muggle who befriends wizard Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as he searches for mystical creatures in 1920s New York. I’ll say this for Dan Fogler’s “Don Peyote”—its title might be the finest play on “Quixote” in cinema history. (Sorry, 2007’s “Donkey Xote.”) Unfortunately, a pun-tastic title does not guarantee a winning film, as the makers of “R.I.P.D.” can attest. As star, co-writer, and co-director of “Don Peyote,” Fogler deserves credit for the sheer ambition involved in this oddball story of a stoner’s awakening. The likable actor who took home a Tony for Broadway’s “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” and has starred in a strange mix of comedies that includes everything from “Balls of Fury” to “Taking Woodstock” also called in a shockingly eclectic bunch for cameo roles: Anne Hathaway, Josh Duhamel, Topher Grace, Jay Baruchel, Wallace Shawn, Annabella Sciorra and Abel Ferrara (huh?!). But the result is an amateurish mess without a single laugh. Not. One. Laugh. That is no exaggeration.

I didn’t know Christopher Walken had danced in so many movies but it’s a good thing he has otherwise we wouldn’t have this great supercut to show you. He had the moves in Fatboy Slim’s Weapon of Choice video [watch it here] but put them all together with his movies and it’s something special.
