Marco Pierre White has claimed that Jamie Oliver launches food campaigns to achieve "column inches". The Hell's Kitchen chef said he was sick of TV cooks promoting "organic" produce in order to boost their public image. Same reality: Demo to Fox, CBS has eyes
NEW YORK -- Fox emerged victorious in the adults 18-49 demographic last week, while CBS came out ahead in viewership, Nielsen Media Research said Tuesday.
Fox's triumph for the week ending Sunday came primarily from its original reality programming, while CBS' strength remained its repeats. Sunday's telecast of the Tonys, coming up against HBO's finale of The Sopranos, dropped to a record low going back as far as at least 1992.
Monday began with a split between Fox in adults 18-49 and CBS in viewership. Hell's Kitchen (8.2 million, 3.7/10) remained firmly in command of the demo, while a repeat of Two and a Half Men (11.3 million, 3.3/9) was the night's top show in viewership. NBC found tough skating with Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals, which averaged 2.8 million and a 1.1/4.
Tuesday belonged to NBC with the return of America's Got Talent (13 million, 4.3/12) as well as Deal or No Deal (10.1 million, 2.7/9). Not faring so well were ABC's ALMA Awards (3.5 million, 1.4/4) or Fox's troubled reality competition show On the Lot (3.2 million, 1.4/5).

The Vine: Jackson on list for ITV position
Granada America CEO Paul Jackson may be returning soon to his native U.K. to take a big post with broadcaster ITV, parent company of Granada, according to sources in Los Angeles, where Jackson is based. He is understood to be "in the running" to replace Claudia Rosencrantz as the broadcaster's head of entertainment commissioning, London's Guardian newspaper reported Thursday. Sources in the U.S. confirmed that Jackson is a serious contender for the post. A spokesman said, "There is no announcement, but obviously Paul is the caliber of executive that the company would be interested in." Jackson is understood to be on vacation and could not be reached about the U.K. post. He has been at the helm of Granada America for two years, having served before that as director of international production at Granada. He spent two years as CEO of Granada Productions Australia. Before that, he spent four years as BBC Entertainment controller. Granada America is a leading producer of reality shows, with shows in production at many of the major broadcast and cable networks, including Hell's Kitchen and Nanny 911 for Fox. Jackson is said to be one of several candidates that ITV director of television Simon Shaps has had conversations with about the entertainment job, according to the Guardian. Other names linked to the post include Mark Wells, controller of entertainment at ITV Prods., and Duncan Gray, the former Granada entertainment programming executive who moved to Los Angeles three years ago to work at ABC.

Summer not so hot for nets in primetime
Despite all of the original series on the schedule, the Big Four networks' summer slump continued during the week ending July 31. CBS won the week in viewers, with a mere 7 million average, and tied Fox for the No. 1 ranking in the adults 18-49 demographic with an equally lackluster 2.2 rating/7 share, according to Nielsen Media Research. As usual, CBS was powered by the strength of its regular schedule, even in repeats. Fox was buoyed at opposite ends of the week by Monday's 9 p.m. Hell's Kitchen (7.4 million, 3.6/10) and Sunday's combo of the 8:30-9:30 p.m. The Simpsons (6.7 million, 3.3/10) and Family Guy (6.6 million, 3.2/9). Fox's Wednesday 8-9:30 p.m. dance competition series So You Think You Can Dance (8 million, 3.3/11) cooled off considerably in its second airing.

Fox fries high Mon. with 'Hell's Kitchen'
Hell's Kitchen had some heat in it Monday as Fox's summer original series wrapped its run with nearly 9 million viewers checking out the finale of the culinary competition. The final installment of Kitchen drew 8.9 million viewers and 4.4 rating/13 share in the adults 18-49 demographic as contestant Michael Wray, a chef from Fort Collins, Colo., presented his dream-restaurant to host Gordon Ramsay cinch the competition. The 8 p.m. penultimate installment brought in 6.7 million viewers and 2.7/10 in adults 18-49, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. Fox didn't have much competition for the night, though CBS' 10 p.m. CSI: Miami rerun (9.9 million, 3.2/9) pushed past Kitchen to rank as the night's most-watched program overall.

TiVo study shows time-shifting down in summer
NEW YORK -- The summer may be time for many things, but the recording of TV shows on DVRs may not be one of them. An analysis of TiVo viewing data by New York-based media agency MPG finds that over the past two weeks, most of TiVo users' top 25 broadcast network shows weren't recorded but instead seen live. "It seems like the DVR usage is seasonal," said Nina Kanter, director of communication analysis at MPG. The top 25 included live sports -- ABC's NBA basketball was seen throughout primetime -- but also first-run shows like ABC's Dancing with the Stars and Fox's Hell's Kitchen and repeats of CBS's CSI and ABC's Lost. Only four -- Fox's Family Guy, House and American Dad along with The WB's Beauty and the Geek -- were primarily viewed time-shifted.
