'Remains' rules day at Atlantic fest
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia -- A Canadian documentary about Tibetans secretly gathering in homes and monasteries to watch a digital message from the Dalai Lama earned the top prize at the Atlantic Film Festival this weekend. What Remains of Us, a National Film Board of Canada documentary by Francois Prevost and Hugo Latulippe earned the trophy for best Canadian film. That honor came as Atlantic Canadian filmmakers emerged from an ocean fog on Saturday and into the forefront of Canadian film as the 24th Atlantic Film Festival wound down to a successful conclusion. The annual Halifax gathering, which blends dramatic features with documentary and short film offerings, also gave a special jury prize to Jason Gileno's documentary Les Chiefs, about the under-belly of Canadian professional hockey.
