As Game of Thrones fanatics eagerly anticipate Season 3 of House of the Dragon, not to mention the countless other spin-offs in the works, one HBO original series is the perfect placeholder. In 2005, the premium cable channel unveiledRome, a wildly ambitious and highly expensive historical epic boasting all the large-scale cinematic bells and whistles Game of Thrones has been praised for.
Winner of seven Primetime Emmy Awards, Rome is ranked #90 on IMDb's Top 250 TV Shows and holds a 96% Rotten Tomatoes audience score. Perhaps more timely and topical than ever, the lofty big-budget TV event portrays the final days of the Roman Republic as it is overtaken and turned into the Roman Empire, shifting perspectives from those fighting on the street and those making decisions in their ivory towers. In plainer terms, Rome walked so Game of Thrones could run.

Khalid Abdalla, who played Princess Diana’s lover Dodi Fayed in The Crown, says he has been summoned to a police interview after attending a pro-Palestine protest in London in January.
Writing on Instagram, Abdalla said “the right to protest is under attack” in the UK following the summons, which relates to a Palestinian Solidarity Campaign rally that also led to ex-Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn being questioned under caution for breaching the rally’s conditions.
Abdalla has been a leading voice from the cultural world supporting Palestinians and the need for a ceasefire in Gaza. He said he was summoned by the Metropolitan Police several days ago alongside the likes of Stephen Kapos, an 87-year-old Holocaust survivor, and both have been asked to attend a “formal interview.” The Metropolitan Police told the BBC that eight people had been “invited to be interviewed under caution at a police station...

Khalid Abdalla, the British actor best known recently for playing Dodi Fayed in “The Crown,” has said he’s been summoned by London’s Metropolitan police to a “formal interview” over his participation in a pro-Palestine march that took place in the U.K. capital earlier this year.
In a post on social media, Abdalla — who also starred in “The Day of the Jackal,” “United 93” and “The Kite Runner,” and was a key part of Netflix’s Oscar-winning documentary “The Square” about the Arab Spring — said that he received a letter “relating to the Palestine Solidarity Campaign protest of Jan 18th,” adding that it “remains to be seen if this will result in charges.”
Abdalla addressed the rally in London, which was held the day after a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas was signed and attracted several thousand protestors. Dozens of demonstrators were arrested on the day on suspicion of breaching protest conditions.

That breakthrough wasn't until we saw him in Zack Snyder's 300, and it suddenly became clear just how much of an aura he had as a leading man. Now a veteran of the big screen, Butler has become renowned as one of the most exciting action stars around today.
His range has also seen him play other roles admirably, too. Among others, like romantic comedies and epic disaster flicks, he's proven to be a terrific all-round star.

Actor Faran Tahir is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Disney+ series ‘Vision Quest,’ a spinoff from WandaVision. Tahir will reprise his role as Raza, the leader of the Ten Rings terrorist organization, a character he first played in 2008’s Iron Man. This marks Tahir’s first MCU appearance in nearly two decades, making his return a noteworthy moment for fans of the franchise.
Raza’s story was last seen in Iron Man, where he orchestrated Tony Stark’s kidnapping to force the creation of a Jericho missile. Although the character appeared to meet his end in the film, the MCU has shown time and again that death isn’t always permanent.
The series will follow Vision, played by Paul Bettany, as he attempts to regain his memories and redefine his purpose after the events of Avengers: Infinity War and WandaVision.

Tom Hanks is known as Hollywood’s Dad due to his penchant for choosing good-guy roles in films. From Saving Private Ryan to Sully, the actor has rarely played characters that are grey or completely villainous. So, it was only natural that he got to play the ‘grumpiest man in the world’ in the American remake of the Swedish film A Man Called Ove.
Remade as A Man Called Otto, the film was an adaptation of Fredrik Backman’s novel and starred Hanks as the eponymous Otto. The film saw a lonely widower having to deal with a new family that moves into his neighborhood and how he connects with them. Hanks revealed why he felt that the story needed to be said for an American audience.

What horrendous, degenerate, pornographic display of hedonism is Walters’ administration accusing teachers of hiding in libraries? U.S. producer E. Bennett Walsh, who has made films including Mortal Kombat, Meg 2: The Trench and The Kite Runner across the Apac region, says he’s got his eye on Japan and Korea as the next hot destinations for footloose Hollywood productions.
“I think the opportunity in Asia is in Korea and Japan,” said Walsh. “Tokyo Vice recently had a great experience in Japan and there are more opportunities for productions like that. Some pieces of the Marvel movies have filmed in Korea, but that was just scratching the surface.”
Japan recently introduced an official production incentive to fund up to one half of the qualifying Japanese spend of international productions, while Korea has been operating incentives for several years. In addition, Japan’s largest studio Toho recently formed a joint venture production services outfit with established Japan-based producer Georgina Pope.

Zhang Xin, the renowned Chinese entrepreneur who used her love of architecture and brilliant business acumen to reshape Beijing and Shanghai’s skyline, has turned her attention to a new challenge: film producer. In September 2022, the billionaire businesswoman — who spent her teenage years working in Hong Kong garment and electronics factories — resigned as CEO of Soho China, one of the world’s preeminent real estate companies she built with her husband, and took up permanent residence in New York City.
Zhang will celebrate the one-year anniversary of leaving Soho at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival, where the Manhattan-based Closer Media, the startup indie production and financing venture she runs with veteran indie producer William Horberg, has no fewer than three films screening. Horberg’s numerous credits include The Queen’s Gambit and The Kite Runner.

Marc Forster has frequently demonstrated an ability to tastefully moderate the more manipulative or saccharine aspects of popular but somewhat blunt-edged source material, in bestseller screen translations like “The Kite Runner” and “A Man Called Otto.” That knack comes in handy once more with “White Bird,” a graceful adaptation of a YA graphic novel by R.J. Palacio. A “Wonder story” tangentially related to 2012’s “Wonder,” it may get some boost from the connection to that book’s successful 2017 film version with Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson.

New location? No script? No rehearsal? No sweat.
Welcome to the 2023 Tony Awards, a show with an extra jolt of electricity this time due to the Hollywood writers’ strike.
Unpredictability has been inserted into what is usually an upbeat, safe and chummy night. The strike has left Broadway’s biggest night without a script, in a new venue far from the theatre district.
A 1 1/2-hour pre-show on Pluto TV from 6:30-8 p.m. Eastern, hosted by Julianne Hough and Skylar Astin, will then throw to the three-hour main event led by Ariana DeBose on CBS and Paramount+ starting at 8 p.m. Eastern.
A total of 26 Tony Awards will be handed out Sunday for a season that had 40 new productions — 15 musicals, 24 plays and one special engagement during the first post-pandemic full season.

For the first time in the 76-year history of the Tony Awards, three Pulitzer Prize-winning original dramas have been nominated in the Best Play category in the same year. Only five of the 17 new plays from the 2022-2023 season made the cut in the extraordinarily competitive race, and three of the five had previously received the prestigious honor of the Pulitzer: James Ijames’ “Fat Ham,” Stephen Adly Guirgis’ “Between Riverside and Crazy,” and Martyna Majok’s “Cost of Living.”
This historic result was not a guarantee. Indeed, according to our final official odds, only two of the plays were anticipated to break through: “Fat Ham,” which ultimately nabbed five nominations, and “Between Riverside and Crazy,” which landed two. “Cost of Living,” which closed back in November, was ranked seventh, but its odds were bolstered by three of our Editors and two of our Experts correctly predicting it to break through.

With 38 productions eligible for this year’s Tony Awards, there were plenty of names missing when nominations were announced on Tuesday morning. Among the most surprising 2023 Tony nominations snubs was “Life of Pi” for Best Play. The production earned nine Olivier Award nominations across the pond, winning Best New Play, Actor (Hiran Abeysekera), Featured Actor, Lighting Design and Set Design. But at the Tonys, it missed out on a Best Play bid and didn’t score a nomination for Abeysekera. The production did perform well in the design categories, though, earning five nominations including for director Max Webster.

The Tony Awards contest for the top honor of Best Play is the most crowded it has been in at least a decade. A whopping 17 new dramatic works will vie for only five slots that recognize the most stellar productions and playwrights on Broadway. This season, the plays in contention hail from renowned dramatists like Tony winners Tom Stoppard for “Leopoldstadt” and David Auburn for “Summer, 1976,” and past nominee Sharr White for “Pictures From Home.” Notably, there are also three winners of the Pulitzer Prize eligible this season: James Ijames’ “Fat Ham,” Stephen Adly Guirgis’ “Between Riverside and Crazy,” and Martyna Majok’s “Cost of Living.” If all three of these works land nominations, the Tonys will set a record for the most Pulitzer winners nominated for Best Play in one year in history.
According to our current combined odds, it is very possible that history will indeed be made this year.

“Leopoldstat” opened in October to a rapturous response from critics and audiences. It’s the latest drama from Tom Stoppard, who has won this category more than any other playwright. Featuring a vast ensemble cast which includes David Krumholtz, Brandon Uranowitz, and Faye Castelow, the gut wrenching story follows a Jewish family over multiple generations. It’s one of the rare straight plays that...
