This was probably a live telecast, but the BBC did broadcast television signals six hours a day, six days a week from 1936 to 1939 when TV was suspended for the duration of World War II. Much of their programming was recorded such as cartoons, but some of it was live including drama and news. Television existed at that time in many countries but was mostly under-developed. BBC TV reached more of England than any American TV broadcaster could reach of the United States at that time. Note: Though expensive everywhere in those days, TV sets remained relatively cheaper in England than in the United States until well after World War II.
